Hoping for rain

Friday, February 17, 2012

It has been cloudy almost all day. Today was my day to work the church thrift shop and it poured all the way home but nothing at our house! About a half mile away the rain stopped. Sure wish it would move in tonight and leave some for us.

Multiple reasons to celebrate!

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

1. The grand thought the Valentine's dinner last night was great - she was especially impressed with the giant size card. Who would guess that would be the hit of the evening?

2. I had excellent numbers at the doctor's office yesterday - not perfect but definitely lots better!

3. Today I am going for a haircut - have been needing one for about 2 weeks now and today is the day.

4. I have nothing else on the agenda for today but exercise so I can get plenty of reading time in this afternoon.

5. Best of all, my brother in law is coming home from rehab after a stroke and is doing super!

A very special V-day!

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Tonight we are having our 13 year old granddaughter for dinner so we decided to make it a special Valentine's day for all of us. We'll be cooking her favorites for dinner including grilled pork, spinach salad and baked potatoes with strawberries for dessert. We have some small gifts for her and a huge card. We will have flowers and candles on the table with all the best dishes and silver to make her feel special.

We hope she enjoys it as much as we have planning it for her and us!

Avoiding useless negativity

Saturday, February 11, 2012

This week I have had to talk to many family members in very stressful situations including a family member who had a stroke, another who is dealing with a serious court case, another who is dealing with a divorce and adjusting to single parenthood and another who is dealing with the recent death of her husband. All of these are real life situations that must be dealt with no matter how difficult and sometimes the best thing we can do is just listen with our hearts.

I also had several people talk to me this week about the faults of others as perceived by them or how things were not completed the exact way they are supposed to be and again as perceived by that person. What a waste of energy! I've decided I have to stop being polite and listening to all this stuff so that I can devote more time to those people I really want to help. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I have been faithfully using my "caller i.d." and choosing whom and when I wish to use my energy talking to such individuals. Even my physical doctor agrees that I have been doing much better since doing this! In fact, SHE is the one that suggested it!!!

IF, I feel "guilty" then, I send them a little card stating "thinking of you" or something of the sorts and add "but, have been really busy with taking care of my mental/emotional well being". It has seemed to work so far (knock on wood!! lol)

I saw this recently on another site and just loved it. "Speak the truth - even if your voice shakes." Sometimes, we just have to say, "I realize this is an important issue to you, but you have to solve it. When you are ready to discuss a solution, I will be glad to listen."
Another one to remember is: "She that gossips to you will gossip about you."

I think you need to stick to those that you can really help and not to the whining and complaining. I know that family is important, but you need to pick what you can/want to deal with. emoticon

I would say something to the effect that being overwhelmed seems to be taking a big toll on that person. How can we band together to help out? Our critique isn't doing the trick so maybe we need to change tactics!

I feel we have to determine who means the most to us and help those who are important and leave the rest to someone else. So I agree with you. Did you get the painting done?

45 years????????

Monday, February 06, 2012

Yesterday RB and I celebrated our 45th anniversary. We spent the day together and topped it off with a lovely dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Celebration. We even treated ourselves to an ice cream cone (child size, please) after we had walked around the arts and crafts booths. We did quite a bit of "remember the time......." and so many memories came flooding back: some good some not so good but through it all we always knew that the other one would be there. It's been a good life and I can't ask for anything more.
