Disappointing birthday dinner

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Yesterday was my birthday and RB took me out to dinner. We tried a new place that we had wanted to go to for some time and were disappointed. The longer I stay with spark people the more I enjoy the food cooked at home. It is fresher and hotter and cooked to our taste.

I ordered what the menu said was haddock and asked for it grilled. I am a New England person born and bred and I know what haddock looks and tastes like and that was not it. Also, there was so much pepper it burned my mouth.

RB often cooks haddock for us. He puts it in foil with some lemon and pepper and puts it on the grill and it is wonderful. I told him next year I was going to have him cook the haddock for me and I would be much happier with it.

P. S. I had a GREAT day in spite of the dinner. Any time your granddaughter and children call and sing to you is a super day! Plus I had multiple calls from siblings and a birthday card from a dear friend I haven't heard from in a long time!

I agree that I enjoy eating out much less often too. Most food has way too much sodium and fat. When I eat at home, I can control what goes into my body much better.

Great observation that the meals at home are better. Now if we could just get the dishwashers to make house calls!! -Marsha

Glad you had a lovely birthday despite the disappointing meal. You know what to do next year! emoticon
By the way, you're one week older than me! I am going away on Wednesday to a lovely place 90 min from home and we're staying there for dinner, bed and breakfast. Hope it's much better than what you experienced.

Wonderful! Happy Birthday to you, too, by the way! Wonderful that you enjoyed the really important stuff and left the fishy stuff a bad fading memory because next time you know what you'd rather do! I'd say you made out like a bandit! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Today's plans

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

I was a little slow getting started this morning but are now feeling energetic. I've done 30 minutes on the bike and am ready to go for a walk now that it has warmed up a little. I am going to visit an elderly friend this afternoon and do whatever errands or chores she needs taking care of for the week.

Energy abounds

Monday, January 09, 2012

I walked early this morning and did a brisk 45 minutes. I've started laundry, picked up the house and done 20 minutes on the bike. After a short coffee break with the spark I am going to start a pasta sauce (guess what's for dinner tonight???) and then do another 20 minutes on the bike.

I had an e-mail from my DD asking if the DGD could stay with us for a few hours while she finished up some obligations and that just made my day. She'll be here about 4 and spaghetti is one of her favs so that was the clincher to make the sauce today.

I hope you all are having a great day, too!

Productive day planned

Saturday, January 07, 2012

Today I plan to get in a 60 minute walk, at least 30 minutes on the stationary bike and to finish getting the christmas things put away. In between that I need a run to Publix - we're out of bananas! And I want to put some fresh soup on to simmer. I've got some left over veggies that are just waiting to be made into something warm and delicious.

I slept until almost 8 this morning - that is really late for me but the busy day at the thrift shop yesterday wore almost all of us workers out. The good news is we had one of our best sal days ever!

Have a great weekend, my friends. emoticon emoticon

Beautiful day

Thursday, January 05, 2012

Still chilly this morning but we broke 60 degrees a few minutes ago and the sun is shining. It is not supposed to be so cold tonight so we can go back to enjoying our Florida winters.

I've had a minor cleaning frenzy this morning and got a bathroom and my office taken apart, cleaned and put back together. Everything is looking and smelling sooooooo clean!

Now it is exercise time.

I've been roasting the extra turkey we got for Christmas and just finished cutting it up and freezing it for other meals. We'll have sandwiches tonight for supper out of it, and there's 4 other meals now ready for us in the freezer. But the whole house smells like the turkey now. YUM! emoticon
