Hanging the windchimes

Sunday, July 11, 2010

Now that the decks are cleaned, stained and sealed we dug out what furniture we had in the basement and added a few pieces. The Andironrack chairs and the glider went on the front deck and a new table and chairs on the back. Still leaving room for the bike!

We're off to Lowe's to pick up a gas grill as the people that bought our last home in the mountains wanted that one. We may add 2 more chairs to the back - we'll see after the grill gets here.

Cook out tonight over at my brothers. I'm bringing watermelon for dessert - sweet and good for us after burgers and hot dogs. I had fruit for breakfast and a little tuna for lunch so I think a burger with tomato and lettuce and corn on the cob is in order for tonight.

You've got those decks all settled just in time. They sound wonderful! The most important item other than your grill is your bike! You've got to get those morning miles in.

I made burgers on our Foreman Grill last night for dinner. I had one (no roll) and a pile of cooked broccoli. I should have sliced onion and tomato on it too. Yummy! Tonight, I had a big bowl of romaine with tuna salad on it. It sounds like we like lots of the same things. Enjoy the cook out at your brother's!

But, where are the windchimes?? years ago, when my hanging plants started to croak due to the heat and so forth, I began replacing them with windchimes. Now, years later, I have beautiful music everywhere!! I also have my daughter send me one each time they get stationed in another place so that I have one from all over. She told me that in Alaska, they place them on the INSIDE of their homes so that when they begin to ring, they are alerted that an earthquake is on its way....who would have thunk it??!!!

Anyway, have a great time but hurry back to Florida!!! We want to share this wonderful heat and humidity with you!! hahahaha

Sounds great. I bought a new patio umbrella today at half off. My old one had committed suicide by getting blown in the pool during the last thunderstorm.

Only one to go!

Saturday, July 10, 2010

There is one window in the basement and that is the only one left to be stained and sealed and oh, yeah, cleaned! That turned in to a little bit, bigger job than I ever thought it would. We ran out of stuff so will need to get a little more but not today.

The upstairs is ready for company except for a quick vacuum which I will not do until Tuesday as I can mess things up really fast. I use one of the bedrooms for my office. If all goes well, family should be here late Tuesday afternoon. I'm thinking baby back ribs on the grill - my granddaughter's favorite!

The nearest (18 miles!) Episcopal church here does an outside service on Saturday evenings at 5:30 so we are headed that way shortly. We were surprised there was no church in this town - should have checked that sooner.

You have really accomplished quite a lot in a short period of time! I'd be willing to bet that you've gone way over 10,000 steps today too. I'm sure that your cabin will be a hit with your family and that your granddaughter will love the ribs that you make for her! Enjoy your visit!

Stuff you just gotta do!

Friday, July 09, 2010

I've spent about an hour ironing this morning because I tend to put it off until there is enough to warrant dragging out the ironing board and setting it up. I've got one of the upstairs room for company and about an hours work left to get the other one ready.

Company is delayed until Tuesday due to some forgotten commitments so that gives us a little extra time.

This afternoon we'll be working in the basement where we have been just tossing stuff as we completed some of our projects. Once we make a trip to the dump it should improve vastly!

I hate to iron probably because I'm afraid of burning myself. Sometimes company coming late can be good if it allows you extra time to get ready. You sound like you've got things under control. Have a great weekend!

I've been in that situation before! I tend to pile junk in my screened in room during the winter. Once it warms up, I usually end up tossing half of it. It would b so much easier if I trashed it as I went along.

That sound marvelous. I think I need to work on both my basement and garage this weekend too... Great way to shed some calories and the basement is a lot cooler than upstairs, lol!

A night off

Thursday, July 08, 2010

We're headed over to my brother's cabin for dinner tonight. My sister-in-law and their daughter have been here for some time but my brother just flew in today. She has cooked his favorite meal: meat loaf, mashed potatoes and green beans and we were invited to share it. Any night that I don't have to cook is a treat and since I knew the menu I was able to plan the rest of my day around it.

On the exercise front I did 45 minutes on the stationary bike, about an hour of painting and 30 minutes or so of cleaning windows. All in all a busy, productive day topped off with some fun tonight. emoticon

Still staining and sealing

Wednesday, July 07, 2010

OK. so we are convinced that cute little cabins still take a fair amount of maintenance especially since it appears nothing was done to this since it was built. Window trim is taking 2 to 3 coats depending on how much sun it gets. Decks are taking 2 coats. We should still finish this week. We're hoping that we are doing such a good job that we won't have to do it again for at least 10 years or we'll be too old by then and won't be able to get up and down the ladders.

I continue to find previously under used muscles: legs from all the up and down action, upper arms from lifting and painting, etc. This is all good, right????? emoticon

Look at you go with all of your fitness points! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Just be sure to do some gentle stretches when you are finished every day so your muscles aren't too sore. You are amazing. When you come back at the end of the summer you can come and work on my house! LOL!

Yes, it is very good. I agree with the 10 years. After that someone else can do it, right?
