Where does the weight go?

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Okay, so I am a college educated woman, but I never thought about this before. Where does the weight go? How does it leave your body? How simple is that question?

The answer is that we excrete mostly through respiration and urine. That makes so much sense to me! I have been running to the bathroom 3 to 4 times a day at work, when there were days before when I didn't go at all. Peeing situation explained. LOL!!

I think that I should view this as a NSV. I'm peeing more!! Yippee!! That means that it's working!! :0)

Cinco de Mayo - Logging my food

Wednesday, May 05, 2010

We are going out with some friends for dinner tonight to take in some patio time at the local Mexican restaurant for dinner in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. It's one of those little mom and pop joints, so the quandary was how to calculate my caloric intake.

I decided to go with using Don Pablo's nutritional info as a guide. My calorie count (as entered and planned) shows that I will be at 1791 calories for the day. I'm okay with that because I am estimating on the high side. I don't plan on eating all of the tortillas and I doubt that I will finish all of my chicken and veggies (though I might you never know), so I entered the whole serving as my dinner. I also entered 1/2 of a serving of chips and salsa. I hope not to eat that much of the chips and salsa, but we'll see. I figure that is a pretty safe way to handle it - overestimate the calories. That is WAAAAYYYY better than underestimating. Plus, even by overestimating I'm still in my comfort zone of under 1800 calories (albeit barely). :0)

Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone!

Good for you! Sounds like you have a great plan and the pre-planning/logging of your meal will hopefully keep you mindful as you have dinner. I do that too so that I can keep myself accountable when I'm at the restaurant.

Enjoy and Have Fun! Happy 5 de Mayo!

The hubby is a BAD influence

Monday, May 03, 2010

I'm doing pretty well, but not great. I keep allowing my husband to pull me off of the wagon, but luckily he will be heading out on a work trip again for a couple of days. I guess I can say that even though he is pulling me off the wagon, it is on days where I have been busting my butt working around the house. Tonight he was mentioning Dairy Queen. I told him that he and Grant could go get some, but don't bring it home. Problem solved.

Tonight was BBQ chicken, seasoned roasted potatoes and stir fried green beans. Everything was DELICIOUS!! The house smelled fabulous. YUM!! Best of all, I am finally well within my fat intake range. I have been hitting it a little high, while staying within my calorie range.

I came back into this thinking that I actually wanted to stay in the 1500 to 1800 calorie range, rather than the 1200-1550 that SP gives me. I think that my higher range is a more livable long term target for me, but I am trying to challenge myself to stay in the lower range as much as possible. I just don't kick myself if I go a little into my range. I will still lose, just not as fast. This isn't really about doing it fast anyway, it's about doing it right.

You have it right! Don't try and diet, try and live a healthy lifestyle. My wife is German so she fries EVERYTHING. I just made a salad tonight and ate that with a little tuna. Good luck! It makes it hard when the people you live with try and sabotage you.

Dairy Queen.... who could say no to that!

The weekend

Monday, April 26, 2010

So I ate over on my calories over the weekend - both days I might add. Do I feel guilty? Not really. I was busting my rump on redoing the upstairs. Moving furniture, cleaning out closets, etc. I put my activity in as 2 hours of heavy cleaning for each day (which came up to almost 1000 calories a day burned), but I was really working WAY more than 2 hours a day. I just couldn't allow myself to put in that I worked for 8 hours a day (which was more like what I was doing).

It's amazing how much crap you accumulate after living in a house for 12 years. We have a room that we call the office, but the desk has been a catchall since I finished school five years ago. The kids have overtaken the room, and the desk just became their go to place to put stuff. I got the desk cleaned out (and cleaned off) and now it's gone. YIPPEE!!

I also cleaned out both of the kids closets, including washing the walls. My daughter moved out to my parents' house a few months back and it was the first time I really looked in her closet since she left. It was piled about halfway up with stuff. Kids keep the craziest things! My son's closet wasn't so bad, but still it was all a chore.

DH has been on a work related trip for 12 days. He gets home today and I'm SO EXCITED!! I can't wait to see him and I can't wait to see his reaction to the changes in the house. I think my house lost about 1000 lbs. while he was gone! LOL!!

Now he gets to paint the "office". I told him that I would have no part of the painting of the office because I have already done enough the last few weekends. We have to move some more furniture around because the office will become Abby's room (or the guest room if she decides to stay at my parents') once it is painted. Abby's old room has been painted and it will now be Grant's room (that was in the works before she left so I'm not that bad), and Grant's old room will be his "man cave". That's his terminology, not mine. I just can't wait until it is all done.

My body was sore when I finally went to bed last night, I think I definitely earned those extra calories.

Great job!! I bet the house looks great! I love painting. My dad teases me that my house is losing sq. footage because of so many layers of paint. LOL

Day 4

Thursday, April 22, 2010

I had some great opportunities for discussions with Grant last night about healthy choices.

On the way home from soccer he asked for an can of Arizona and I said no. He objected and pointed out that the half and half versions only have 150 calories. I countered that argument with "You could have 4 cups of spaghetti squash for the amount of calories in one of those. Or many, many cups of strawberries. Plus the spaghetti squash and the strawberries have fiber and vitamins and all those things that are good for you. What does the Arizona have to offer?" We also discussed how full he would feel from the squash and strawberries, versus the Arizona. His eyes got HUGE. He was shocked.

When we got home he asked for a smoothie. I made a typical smoothie (frozen fruit, 1/2 of a fresh banana, some 1% milk and a bit of honey), but I added a little protein powder (as per his request). Then he asked me how many calories were in that. I guesstimated off the top of my head that there were about 200. He didn't like that it was more than the Arizona that I had nixed. I pointed out the value of what the smoothie was putting into his body, versus the non-value of the Arizona. Battle won again.

I'm patting myself on the back right now. :0)

Good stuff ... keeping fighting the battle!! I introduced juicing to my 6 year old a month ago ... at first he didn't want to try it because of the color (carrots, apple, spinach -- gives nice muddy hue haha). Well, he tried it and loved it! Then I let him try the juicing machine (with my very close supervision) and he just wanted more and more. Juice, drink, juice, drink. Good stuff!
