25lbs GONE!

2 weeks ahead of my personal goal!!! I had set out to lose 25lbs by my birthday (5/13) and here I am!! It's amazing what one can accomplish with a little determination and positivity!! I'm so glad that I'm on this journey to change my life and be healthy! I'm so proud that my son knows what exercise is and knows that "going to the gym" is a completely normal thing for his mom to do! YAY!!

Determined!

So the knee injury set me back in terms of my consistency. One week gym free set me on a slippery slope. I'm determined not to let it derail me completely! I packed my gym clothes and plan on hitting it on my way home from work! Slow and steady, so that I don't injur myself again.

I set a personal goal for myself to lose 25lbs by my birthday (5/13). I'm determined to reach that goal!! Then my next personal goal will be another 25lbs by New Years... I can do it!!

Knee

So I went to the dr. She checked out my knee along with many other things. The good news is that thanks to me taking several days off from the gym, there was no pain or swelling. She moved it around and it wasn't catching on anything. The only real way to see is to go get an MRI. She's not making me do that unless this happens again. So, fingers crossed it won't. She's letting me start back at the gym slowly with the bike and light walking. "Take it slow!" was her mantra. So I went last night on the bike for 35 min. my knee did feel a little sore.... but it isn't swollen this morning and it doesn't hurt. So, I'm going to give it a try again this morning and see how it goes.

Easter was great. The kids had fun. Lots of yummy foods and candies that I should not have eaten. Given that I wasn't going to the gym or getting a burn, it's really a miracle that I didn't gain. I should have kept blogging each day, but I wasn't being very positive and didn't have anything good to say. I still weighed in daily and just tracked it on the notes in my phone. It's good to be back and feeling semi normal again... I'm just really scared of injuring myself again....

Knee Injury

So I'm not sure how bad of an injury I have. But I know I did something.... I was on the elliptical doing my normal routine when I felt a pop in my right knee. It was not painful or anything... But still I got off and flexed, stretched, moved around, it didn't hurt at all. So thinking it's just like when you wake up and your joints pop from time to time, I finished my workout. That was at 10am this morning. By the time I got to work at 2pm it was feeling stiff and starting to swell. Fast forward to now (10pm) and it's still stiff. It doesn't hurt when I'm just sitting here. When I walk it's just kindof a dull ache. The pain is on the top of the knee cap. I've got a dr appt for Monday, so I'm getting that checked along with everything else that needs to be checked. Until then, my mom (who is an RN) has advised me to keep it elevated, ice it, take ibuprofen and relax. This couldn't have happened at a worse time! No gym=no burn, which means I'll have to really be careful as to what I eat. With Easter Sunday coming (a big celebration with my family) I don't know how great the scale is going to look this week. I'm just hoping I pulled or sprained it and that with rest it will get better. I'm not going to be happy if I tore something and need surgery. That will suck. For now, taking it easy and giving myself time to heal.

    Oh gosh! Injuries suck so much! You can stay on track and even keep losing if you can stick to your diet. That's the hard part though. emoticon I hope the injury isn't too serious and you can get back to working out quickly. emoticon

Yesterday was a busy work day. We were hosting VP's from our corporate office. So we had a catered lunch and went out for a fancy dinner. Not the best day calorie wise. I had known the day would be packed with food, etc. So I was sure to pack my gym clothes. After I left the restaurant, I was thinking to myself- "I am so tired" and "would it be that bad if I skipped". Then I thought through all I ate throughout the day and realized it's not something that should be skipped... and although I was feeling tired a light workout would be better than no workout at all. When I got to the gym I decided to take it easy and just walk. My phone battery was a bit low and I hate working out without music. So I started my walk and 20 minutes in, I turned my attitude around. Why if I'm already and the gym, already moving and I taking it "easy"? So I remembered I'd loaded a Couch to 5K podcast on my phone. It's been years since I've attempted running. The first round is intervals of 60 second runs with 90 second recovery times. I can't believe I completed it! I've not ran since before my kids.... mainly due to weak bladder issues- but I did it and had no bladder issue to speak of. My only complaint was afterward my feet and knees were killing me. I think I need to be down another 25 pounds or so before I try it again. I don't want to injur myself. The elliptial and treadmill is much easier on my knees and feet. Not to mention, my shoes are kinda cheap. So, until I can afford an nicer, more supportive pair, I'm not going to push it.
