Okay- I'm in no way debating that health should be a priority. Fitness is essential to weight loss and overall health. But do you need to have the coveted "membership" in order to make it happen?
In the past my answer has always been "no". I've been able to lose weight at home. I've even purchased workout equipment that has gotten its use. Working out at home is FREE! Not to mention the zero commute time, your home gym never closes, you can wear what you want without feeling self conscious and if heaven forbid you pull a butt muscle- you can react however you'd like- as there isn't anyone around to offend.
However, lately I've been thinking of prying open my wallet and splurging on a membership to the rec center. A couple factors have me strongly considering it. 1-) my treadmill is broken. Its going to cost the same as a membership to fix. 2-) I continually have to break from my workout for kids- I can't even get my heart rate up. 3-) its freaking freezing! Today was -1 degree. I like walking/jogging and the rec has an indoor track.
So I tried it out tonight. The day pass was $5.50. Year membership would be $240. I have not gotten that great of a calorie burn since summer! I love the feeling of my muscles twitching after a long workout. Also- I noticed the rec is very family oriented. It's not a young crowd of immature kids there to just pick up a date. It's moms and dads trying to get into shape. Everyone looked focused and minded their own business- which I love.
Dave Ramsey is yelling at me right now. I really don't have the money.... But.... But.... But...
