Today's Dr. Visit

So today I went back for my follow up visit with the doc. It's been 3 weeks since the first visit and I've lost about 7 pounds since the last visit. My blood pressure was better, while not where it needs to be. It was 146/64 which is far better than the 176/100. He bumped up the dosage of the Avapro to get it down close to where it needs to be.

He said my blood work wasn't bad. My cholesterol was high, but he said it wasn't high enough to warrant any meds at this point. He said that I should stay on my plan of walking every other day and watching what I eat. My thyroid meds should take about 6 weeks or so before I start to notice more energy. He said that it could also help with my weight loss too. That's not a bad thing!

He also had my sleep apnea results and unfortunately, I have sleep apnea. He said that I woke up on average of 23 times an hour. WHAT?!?!?! 23 times an hour?!?! When the hell do I freaking sleep?? So I go back to the sleep center tomorrow night to spend the night with the CPAP machine on to see where it needs to be set to keep my airway open. I'll feel like Darth Vader when I sleep, but if it helps me get a good night's sleep, then I'm all for it! I'm tired of being tired!

I go back in 4 weeks to see how the bp is doing and I'll also go back for more blood work before I go back to see how the thyroid levels are doing. Should be interesting!

Got a 2 mile walk scheduled for tomorrow morning, and a weigh in too so I'll be back blogging again in the morning!

    That's awesome that things are improving! Sorry to hear about the sleep apnea, but that can definitely be fixed after time as well with all the changes you're making. I hope your walk went well! I need to get back on track! emoticon

Misc. ramblings....

Yesterday we went to the in-laws for Father's Day. We had a good time as always. My father in-law made some black bean burgers that were pretty good! MUCH better than the recipe we tried the other day for bean burgers. Ours were actually pretty nasty! I also had a good sized salad with tomatos, onions, and yellow peppers with some lite italian dressing, and a baked potato, skin and all! I also drank about 3 glasses of water with dinner. For desert I had some dump cake that was very good! (Dump cake is a crazy name, but it's easy to make and good too!)

I'm still waiting for my sleep apnea results. I was told by the tech guy at the hospital that I should hear from them Thursday or Friday and that didn't happen. I also posted some pictures of all the gizmos that I was hooked up to on my Facebook page.

Tomorrow I go back to my doctor for my 3 week follow up visit and today I get to call the insurance company and find out why they didn't pay $20 to him the first time I was there. They're trying to tell me I should have paid a co-pay but I don't have a co-pay on a wellness visit. Darn insurance companies got to make things freaking difficult.

I'm still walking 2 miles in the morning every other day and have kept it up for about 3 weeks now. I look forward to my morning walk, it helps me clear my head and it's a good way to kick off the day. I walked a 3 mile route this past Saturday and it felt good. I will probably stick with 2 mile walks during the week and kick it up to 3 or maybe even 4 miles on the weekend since time isn't an issue.

We got the game for our Wii called Just Dance the other day and I gave it a shot yesterday. I must preface this though by saying I can't dance a lick! I did three songs... Eye of the Tiger, Womanizer and I Like to Move It. Overall, I don't think I did too bad. I would expect to score better as I become more familiar with some of the moves. I was totally screwing up a bunch of them, but hey, I was moving and that's all that really matters in the long run.

    Keep up the GREAT work! I love that you pushed yourself this weekend on the walk - WOO HOO!!! I also love that you are noticing the mental benefits of your exercise. It becomes better and better (and more addictive) as you progress. FABULOUS!

Week 9 Weigh In

Well I lost another 3 pounds. I had to weigh myself about 10 times before I got anything consistent on that piece of crap scale. I got weights ranging from 249 all the way down to 247.2 so I basically entered in the average. I'm very happy with the results since I've been walking fairly religiously every other day.

I've had a busy start to this week. I had to drive up to Chesterbrook, PA (about an hour and 15 minute commute one way) to head to the SAS Institute for a class for work so I haven't been on SP much lately.

Last night when I got home from the class around 6pm, I had to get ready for my sleep apnea test and drive back up to Wilmington to do it. The test was over at 5:15 this morning and I had to drive back home, get my lunch ready, etc, and then drop my daughter off at the in-laws and head back up to Wilmington to work.

Not to mention that we went to the beach this weekend so between all that driving, I really burned through a tank of gas pretty quickly!

The sleep apnea test was weird. I took some pics and if I'm brave enough, I'll post them here and probably on my Facebook account. It was crazy being hooked up to all the wires and sensors and to then try and sleep without knocking any of them off. I didn't sleep very well at all, seemed like it took forever to actually fall asleep. Seemed like I woke up a bunch of times too. I should have the results Thursday or Friday.

Speaking of results, I have the results from my blood work back and it turns out that my thyroid is outta whack. That could explain A LOT of my issues. So now I have those pills to take in addition to my blood pressure pills. I'm gonna need another job to pay for my meds and my daughter's meds too. I go back to the doc in about another week to check the progress of my bp. Hopefully it's improving. We'll have to wait and see.

    Congratulations on the weight loss!! I hope the health issues start to turn around for you. I know from my experience that as I lost weight and became more active, I got off quite a few of the meds I had been taking. I hope the same happens for you.

Week 8 Weigh In

Just weighed in for week 8 and I gotta say I was a little disappointed. I had been really trying to walk/run 3 days a week burning about 280 calories at a pop only to find that I lost a whopping extra .4 pounds. Not to mention I was out with Habitat for Humanity sweating my ever loving a$$ off on Saturday. I was really hoping to break into the 240's this week.

Our scale is a piece of crap! I can weigh myself 10 times in a matter of 2 minutes and get 7 different readings. I could understand the range of the weights was maybe a half a pound either way, but in some cases there's as much as 2-3 pounds difference between the weights. I'd like to get a new one that's better, but to get a decent scale, you gotta pony up some big bucks. I guess we'll just have to suck it up and deal with it!

I went yesterday morning before work and got my blood work done as well as a urine test. Not sure why the Doc wanted a urine test, I'm not pregnant!! emoticon

The Doc gave me some samples of Avapro last week for my bp and I think it's helping. Also found out that if I get a full prescription for it that my insurance company won't pay for it until I try a different medicine first. If that doesn't help my bp, then they'll pay for the Avapro but I'll have to pay a higher copay. Hopefully there's a generic available and I won't get hosed by paying a bundle for my prescription.

I'm refraining from doing Wk2D3 of the C25K today as my knees are really taking a beating doing this running. I also can't do much walking because the fat on my thighs rubs which makes for some very painful walking the day after. I'm gonna have to resort to Walk Away the Pounds for a while. Odd how the walking in place doesn't affect the thigh rubbing but I don't feel as though I get a good enough workout doing them. But on the other hand, anything is better than nothing I guess!

Well, gonna go eat a bowl of cereal and a banana to kick the day off right! Take care guys!!

(I needed to add an edit here.... I said that I lost an extra .4 pounds. I lost 2.4 this week, just thought that with all the extra exercise and stuff that I would have lost MORE than .4 pounds over my goal of 2. That's where the extra came from. I was hoping to hit the 240's)

    I agree with TINYC887 - it's still a loss! I know all about the thigh rubbin' thing... I think it's the motion. When you walk in place, your legs don't make the full back and forth motion as they do when you are out running/walking. That's why the walk away the pounds doesn't irritate it as much. Try wearing biking shorts under your workout pants and see if that helps :)

2 NEW TEAMS!!!

Hey guys! Just a quick note that I started 2 teams. Don't know if anyone is interested in them, but they are:

White Coat Syndrome - I thought it would be a good place for those of us that are affected by this issue to get together and discuss our experiences as well as ways to help cope with it.

Twi-Hard spouses - I'm sure there are a zillion of us out there somewhere that have spouses that are ADDICTED do Twilight and everything Edward Cullen or Jacob Black. If you are a spouse or know someone that's a spouse of a Twi-Hard, please suggest the team.

I've had the teams up for a few weeks and so far the only member is ME!!
