A small hiatus

I didn't fall off the face of the earth though sometimes I wish I had. I've been so sick lately, barely getting in any exercise, I'm sure not losing any weight, but in all fairness I haven't weighed myself.

I haven't been able to keep any food or liquid (including water) down in way too long. I went in last week and saw the surgeon again to see what was going on and what the next steps were. He's sending me for a test next week. If it's what he thinks it is, surgery to remove the problem. If it's not what he thinks it is, he's going to do an exploratory surgery to see if he can find the problem. Either way, more surgery.

I'm doing the best I can to get through this but it's really hard and I just feel icky. I'm still around and plugging along the best I can.

I decided last week (I think) that I was only going to weigh in on Friday's. Of course I would obsessively weigh throughout the week but only count Fridays. Well this week I didn't have time to weigh throughout the week so today is the first day i've actually done it. No change in weight, AT ALL. Are you kidding me?! Granted this week has been crazy busy and I haven't had time to walk like I normally would. But that's just making excuses.

And some oddness....every time I weigh....the scale always says something .8 what the hell? Can't I be anything besides .8? I want to be like .2 or .5 but no, not me, I'm always .8. I know, stupid thing to be upset about.

I bought 2 workout dvd's yesterday. I can't remember what they are off the top of my head.... 3 Minute slim down - slim fitness and total body fitness. At least now I'll have something to do in my house without having to go all the way to town to walk. Maybe it will make a difference.

    I find the same problem with the scale as well when I weigh excessively. I kinda cheat when I feel my clothes are way to baggy or loose on me that is when I weigh.

    Oh yeah, I'm there right now. Working out like a fiend but the scale isn't moving. HOWEVER, like Pattyr81 my clothes are looser and my body is changing. Maybe you could, if you aren't already, take your weekly measurements. Find other indicators of how you're doing besides the scale.

    When my scale didn't move for weeks at a time, I noticed that my body shape changed. I lost inches. Also muscle weighs more than fat, so looking at whole picture rather than scale number helps.

PS: In some societies the number '8' is an EXTREMELY lucky and desirable number. I would look at getting a constant '8' on your scale as a happy and encouraging sign for you from 'the universe' or higher power or angels or whatever you call the larger power outside ourselves.

I'm tired, sore and cranky. In all fairness I didn't go to bed until 5:30 this morning. I was working on finishing an order, in hindsite I shouldn't have started it at 11 at night. I got it most of the way done.

Anyway, so I woke up tired and cranky after only a few hours of sleep. I decided to go for a walk because if I didn't it would just be another excuse and it would end up a slipper slope of excuses to not walk anymore at all. Laced up my sketchers and off i went. I got in 2.25 miles today which is MUCH better than I expected (I really wanted to quit after half a mile).

Stopped by breaktime to reward myself after my walk. I got my normal huge glass of water and extra glass of ice, and I also got a diet coke.

Tomorrow is the day I have planned to attempt doing the whole 3.1 miles. I hope it doesn't rain. It was sprinkling today during my walk. If it doesn't happen tomorrow due to rain I will do it the next day its nice out.

I've decided official weigh ins will be Friday mornings. Of course I'll weigh obsessivly every day but nothing counts except for Fridays.

    sounds like an exhausting day for you. not getting a lot of sleep. Good job on the walking. I definitely need to fill myself up with a nice tall cool glass of water. I hope you will get to do your 3.1 miles. I know here in Arkansas it's supposed to rain later this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Be out bye tomorrow afternoon.

Great job on keeping the weigh in on Friday. I am a scale freak also so I am going to curb the weighing to once a week when the 5% fall challenge calls for weigh ins.

Update and goal

Ok update first: I blogged this morning about not wanting to weigh myself. Good news...I'm down another pound. I think that brings my total loss down to 64 pounds so far.

Goal: Sunday is the start of a new week and my goal, for Sunday is to walk a 5k. No, I'm not entering any races or doing it with a group with one already going on, I'm going to do it by myself, at my pace, at my normal walking place. I believe I'm going to do that every Sunday. I want to see how my times go.

The track at the park, well it seems a little off. My sister and I both walk there. We both use the app mapmywalk (love it!). But the 1/2 mile track seems to be off consistently. It seems it is off by .05 of a mile. Which makes it off by a tenth of a mile, per mile. She walked 2 miles on her first walk, which in theory according to the track, would have been 4 laps. When she finished she had only done 1.8 miles, so she just watched the app until it hit 1.9 miles and then turned around and walked back. I don't so much pay attention to distance or times (although I do try to beat my own times). I walk 4 laps. Now looking at the mapmywalk homepage it shows a variance in distance from day to day. Nothing huge, just enough to be bothersome at times. So today, i wanted to push myself. I wanted to hit that mile #2, and I knew the only way to do so was to go a 5th lap. I did it. At the end of my workout I was at 2.24 miles. So, Sunday, its going to be 3.1 miles (probably a little over so I can get all the laps in the at least make the 3.1 I'd have to go the rest of the way around the lap).

I added more songs to my "workout" playlist. I have more to add but it was great today to have more variety.

Do I or Don't I?

Seems to be a question I struggle with most days when it comes to this.

Weighing myself. I just don't want to get on that damn scale. What if it shows I gained? I've been working so hard.

But on the flip side, what if it shows I lost?

I guess I'll go step on it and see what it has to say

    I weigh in every single morning and record the weight. After a while I have began to notice patterns. The morning after an intense workout I weigh 1-3 pounds heavier than the previous day. I find it a great way to help me keep accountable.

I also like to weigh at night before I go to bed just because i think seeing the difference in my "night weight" vs my "morning weight" -- I think it is neat.

I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. I like the numbers, they help motivate me and keep me on track. Not only do I measure weight, but I also measure body fat %, water %, muscle mass, and inches.

Do what feels right to you

    I emoticon threw out the scale years ago because I was so obsessive about the numbers. I would weigh in several times a day. Talk about misery. Now I weigh in about once every 2 weeks at a friend's home. Try not to obsess on the number. Don't let it control your emotions and keep you from trying to meet your goals. Stick to the healthy ways you know and eventually the scale will show progress. But remember there are other signs of progress such as measurements and how you feel in your clothes.     Maybe make a list of non scale victories before you weigh in. That way if the number is not what you wanted, you still have reminders of successes you have had.

    weighing is tough thing. on one hand you really want to know how much weight you lost? but on the other hand you don't want to know if you gained. how often do you weigh yourself? I am thinking about weighing once a month at the end of the month. that way I don't stress over the scale. I can be a scale freak.
