Take Pride

Last night the Military American Bass Anglers met. Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard all represented. Tournament started today. We were privleged with wounded warriors and two commanders and their wifes. USO show sung as couples danced in rememberance of all the family members separated during tours. All stood w/o prompting when God Bless American was sung. W/O prompting all stood and sung our Anthem. The wounded, men and women, some w/o eyes, battle scared, many in wheelchairs were then honored by their fellow comrads. It was a privlege to be in the same room.

On facebook I read that people were ashamed of those who chanted U.S.A. For anyone who was "ashamed" of soldiers and civilians chanting "U.S.A." I say, you never sacrificed but have lived a privilaged life because of these men and women.

The wife/husband who waits for a call, the mother/father who has a child in harms way, the children... and anyone who sees the sacrifice have that right. I say this for those who sacrifice, with them, and to all.

Tornado is coming...

Sunday, May 01, 2011

We all saw the news. Watching and realizing I live in the path we decided to go to our block house (husband said to stop saying dog kennel) This is a small 20’ x 20’ block house with walls every 4’ because it was once shower stalls for hunters, then my dog kennel. Now it is my protector.
Moved car from carport (can’t walk to kennel) and got inside. 7 minutes later we were in a firestorm of lighting. I felt like it was 5’ above me. (Actually, I think it was) Then we heard the train…I text son where we are so if they hunt for us they will know to look in kennel. Not all text goes out. Beast is ROARING at us. Leaves are swirling at our feet. We both feel pressure trying to pull us into roof. Then silence. Then popping sounds all around us. We think it is hail…no…not hitting roof. Sounds like a baseball being hit with a wood bat. Only we hear 12 or more at a time.
When we finally open the door we see we are standing in 1” of water that was pushed into our space under the door by this BEAST. And NOW we know what that sound is. The trees are still popping and bending down all around us.
Need I mention that I blogged (for the first time) about being robbed earlier this month?
WHEW, we are alive. Next morning we see the damage. Yep, if we stayed in home it would have been just as violent. Car has debris in every crack that we cannot get out. Our carport is gone. BBQ found 30’ away. Chairs in trees. That is, what trees are even up? Debris is pushed 10’ under house. No roof.
Using 6 wheeler, we cannot get out of land. No trail is left undamaged. Finally electric company comes. They help us by cutting trees into size our BIG tractor can shove out of way. They replace 2 poles and get our electricity going. Neighbors still have no electricity as of today.
Our road is closed (we are only ones who live on it) Bridge is unsafe. Lines and tops of trees hang everywhere. Could come down anytime.
Sparks taught me to handle stress…last blog I gained 3 lbs. Would have gained 10 but had no trash in house. Before this I had just taken off the 3 lbs. Still have no trash in house except the jelly beans I purchased yesterday. I had a handful before I realized that they were not so great after all.

NOt sure what part of Bama you live in, but God was with you for sure. I live in Pelham and we came out fairly unscathed save a tree or 2 down here and there. I attend UA in Tuscaloosa twice a week getting my 2nd BS (1st one 20 yrs ago) and it is a 2nd home to me. It is devastating what everyone has gone through. God is Good All The Time! Take Care and Stay Safe. My prayers are with you.

The post important thing is that you and DH are OK. Stuff can replaced. A loved one cannot.

This is a warning

There are days when you go about your business, starting your day with a cup of coffee expecting that a structured day is about to begin. And then there was yesterday....

We find out that someone decided they wanted our stuff more than we did. How did this happen? Oldest story told and one I'm sure some of you have experienced.

The church helps a out of luck couple with two girls. They are neighbors after all. Then the couple shows up with their hands out..what can we do to help them...We turn the reeking drunk of a husband away. Then the wife keeps coming over to see what we can do to help. She just needs any type job to help feed her girls.

We live on a farm. They want to recycle the metal for money. So for three days we help them load up over $1,000 worth of metal...you know, old trucks, refrigerators, rusted out water troughs. We let them have all the funds. We lock up the gates and inform them we are done.

But they were still eyeing the copper flashing we didn't let them have (over $1,000 worth) and our $8,000 tractor and $1,000 trailer. And much more.

My whole day is a mess now. Police come. I have to live near this excuse of neighbors knowing every time I leave my home they might come shopping again.

Reason to blog..my Blood Pressure went sky high. My ability to think... gone. My heart is shaken. And I want to BLOW MY HEALTH for THIS???. Well, I'm not going to do it. Oh, I won't lie, I had a couple of drinks to stop shaking. Ate two cookies. We either can't eat or eat and feel sick. But life is going to continue with our without my healthy eating, so I am choosing to stay on course.

Wow! This just makes me shakey thinking about it! I feel so horribly for you and your DH! There are definitely evil people out there and I'm so SORRY they live nearby! I would get an electrified fence or those motion detector lights that blare out Yankee Doodle Dandy when they sense movement...of course I don't know if they really blare out songs and that would most likely be impractical if you have animals that would set it off!

It's so true what a few other sparkie friends said...there are people out there that feel that others and the world actually owe THEM a living!

I'm MAD and SAD for you! Do you have dogs that would bark alerting you if they come back? I'd definitely let them know that the next time they come by you'll have a gun loaded with buckshot.

And I don't even know how to hold a gun!??!!

Thank you. My first blog was survival mode. My blood pressure had to come down and I had to find clarity to it. Putting it on paper helps. Them getting caught helps. Me moving on heals.

I am so sorry you had to experience this. After you were so nice to them, this is how they repay you. Keep the faith...everyone is not like this, fortunately. I wish you the best. I'm sorry your first blog had to be about such a sad situation.

For those of you who have wondered...we live deep woods with no neighbors. This "stuff" was old equipment that a generation prior had left in sections of land. Oh, and a dump stop that fellow citizens feel comfortable dumping on. Old tires, broken stoves, roofing. We don't leave our "stuff" out with invite. They took bolt cutters and cut the chained fence. They came in the night. The police and us know who did this but the proof has to be documented. We have REAL cameras. However, they work on batteries and we had not updated the batteries. Our loss. We also have a censor to let us know when someone enters our gate, and then when they pass a side road. That will not stop them from cutting a back gate open. YOU CAN NOT STOP A THIEF. YOU ONLY CAN STOP SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT BECOMING ONE.

Sorry you have to go through this. I have been through the same thing twice in my life, once with an EX-friend and then about 15 years later with a close relative. After giving and giving (thousands of dollars) I finally stopped with each one when I realized that neither want to do anything for themselves, they just wanted to survive on the generosity of others. I finally told each of them THAT THEY HAVE GOTTEN ALL THEY CAN FROM ME AND TO LEAVE ME ALONE a few times before it sunk it.

I know your situation is different on the farm and you have every right to be concerned about them stealing. My only suggestion is to order some fake security cameras and signs, mount them in the in the areas necessary. Then let your neighbors that you have given all you are going to give them and tell them of your security system. I did an online search and the fake security cameras are in the $30 to $40 range and the signs are much less. This is just a suggestion.

I will pray for you. emoticon emoticon emoticon

What about asking the police to have a talk with these people and put a restraining order on them? Perhaps a lesson not to have so much stuff laying around getting other greedy peoples attention..
It is a shame it is this way these days.. These nasty people give new meaning give a finger and take the whole hand..

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I had a student and her family that we helped quite a bit. They seemed to appreciate it, but then it got to the point where it seemed they expected it. It makes it difficult when you want to help people who truly need it.
