Mt. Fuji Japan, We can move mountains!!

Monday, August 10, 2009

This trip was an amazing experience. I started in Tokyo. I was sightseeing with some Japanese friends when disaster struck their family. My hosts mother died. Two days later her aunt died as well. It was a difficult time. After that I was on my own in Tokyo. I had planned to climb Fuji-san on Tuesday. The weather forecast was horrible. It was supposed to rain all day and have heavy downpours at night. I was planning on an overnight tour to see the sunrise. I decided to stick with my plan even though the weather looked bad.

When we arrived it was clear and beautiful. Not long after fog rolled in. It wasn't actually fog though we were at 6,000 ft above sea level so it was clouds. Then the rain started. It was light and I figured as long as it stayed light we would be ok. It took about 4 hours to read our first stop at station 7 overnight hut. We had dinner and tried to sleep in a crouded bunk style house. There was no sleep to be had.

At about 11:30 our group was awakened and started our climb up the mountain. The weather was clear and I could see so many stars. IT was amazing. I didn't have time to enjoy the stars much though it was time to get to the top before sunrise. 4.5 hours later we reached the summit. The sunrise from the top of Fuji-san is incredible. I have lived in Japan for two years but this is the first sunrise I have seen in the land of the rising sun. It will not be matched. We stayed on the summit for about an hour and had soup and tea before the long descent.

Our descent took just over 3.5 hours. IT was definitely the hardest part of the trip but I accomplished something I never thought I would be able to do. I certainly could not have done it a year ago.

Climbing Mt. Fuji tells me that I can reach my goals no matter how difficult they seem at the time. One foot in front of the other and just keep going. Thank you to all who supported me. It was amazing!!

Almost time for a 2nd honeymoon!!

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Tonight I was packing for a trip and tried on the gown I wore for my honeymoon. I had been looking at pictures remembering how tiny I was in those photos of me in that dress. Tonight it FIT!!. Not only fit, but I could eat dinner and it would still fit. I feel good. I am almost always sore because of the strength training but I feel strong. I haven't seen the scale move for a couple weeks but the inches are coming off. Tonight was another AHH hAA moment when I was sitting folding clothes and put my feet on the floor and tucked my knees to my chest. I never thought that was possible for me. I did it. I was able to do a yoga move that I have never been able to do even though I have been doing yoga for years. I know I am rambling but after that dress fit I just had to see what else I could do. I have even been buying larger water bottles because when they are full and I set them down the muscles in my arms look great. I am getting there and I will make it. It will take more effort and a stronger will sometimes, but I will make it to 140lbs.

Finally I have made it three days within the limits of expected sodium intake. I thought it would never happen. I am hoping to see the difference tomorrow on the scale though it may take a little more time than that to see change. I never though that a vegetarian with a natural diet would have such a hard time eating low sodium.

New Milestone met

I can cross my legs. I cannot remember the last time I could do that. I know it seems like a small accomplishment and many people probably don't even know what I am talking about, but those who have the same problem will know exactly what I mean. I have been losing weight consistently and feel great. I look better and have more energy. My knees don't hurt and now I can cross my legs. I don't know what could get better.
