exercise and depression

Thursday, May 24, 2012

I increased my level of exercise recently, adding more aerobic exercise and increasing my weights and my depression (this one was long---) is starting to lift. I am feeling so much better emotionally and physically--I know all the literature says it helps--well I guess it really does! emoticon

Younger Next Year

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Has anyone read the book "Younger Next Year"? I am starting it, and it seems to be all about stepping up the exercise level as you get older. I am hoping that it gives me a new perspective and a jump start again. I have been feeling like I needed a change for a while.

Weird stuff

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

So things are a little wonky in my world right now. I just got through a period of binge eating--yes, I admit it, too much food, too much wine too late at night. So I got myself back on track and now my digestion is a weirded out. I have always had acid reflux, but all of a sudden it feels out of control and I have a weird metallic taste in my mouth. So now I am back to bland food--no coffee, no wine and lots of antacids. Crazy!

But I did get on the bike, and I just got back from walking my dog--it was hailing while the sun was shining!

back and hip pain

Saturday, January 29, 2011

I am struggling right now with back and hip pain. My hips are a problem because of arthritis. My back is a problem this week because I moved badly somehow. The past two days I still got on my bike and peddled and I also did a limited version of my yoga workout. I am going to keep moving even if I am moving slowly for a while.

They say keeping moving helps with such pain, and I think it's true too. I find however that an occasional massage (my husband gives me one with our vibrator) helps too. (When I was single I splurged and had a massage almost once a month. If you can afford that, do it!)

I feel stuck today and I am really tired. So, I looked back at my goals set at the beginning of December. I did fairly well with them until Christmas and then I stopped tracking my food, but I kept tracking my exercise. I was doing well with exercise too, but this last week, I haven't done well with either. Couple that with really long days on Tuesdays and by the time I get to Wednesdays, I am bone tired.

So, even though I feel stuck today, I got up and walked and am going to step up my game this week. Restorative yoga today!

Don't feel stuck, just keep on going and do the best you can. You will find that if you don't consider yourself stuck and know that you can just keep on working you are more likely to get back on track quickly. It is getting discouraged and feeling defeated that makes us quit! You are not stuck, you just took a minor detour and now are making your way back to the highway!!!
