I need to remind myself of this at the moment:
Please don't think of yourself as having failed. Failure is when you give up, turn away & go in another direction from where you want to be. You haven't done that. You may have paused on your journey, but you are still on that path and looking at the map so to speak. Sometimes we take a longer route than expected to get there, l know l have, l'm still getting there, but l will !!!.
At the beginning of this year l never thought l would have got as far as l have, but l started out controlling what l ate, eating healthily, but still having small treats now & again, eg at family birthdays or other celebrations & doing a little exercise and then a little more, building it up gradually, fitting in a few minutes whenever l could (life is so busy with family, home & work, but so are a lot of people's). I decided l couldn't kid myself any longer that l didn't have time for exercise (in the past l didn't like exercising, now l love it)- l HAD to make myself a priority even for 15 mins at a time, a couple of times a day. So with watching what l ate & exercising the lbs started to come off - sometimes slowly, but all those lbs have added up & l've now lost 62lbs (with 14lb more to go until l get to my goal weight). As important as losing those lbs have been & being able to buy clothes in much smaller sizes, which is great, the biggest change for me has been how much more positive l feel each day, l look forward to the day ahead when l wake, even when l know l've got such a lot to do. I feel more confident in meeting people at work, enjoy social occasions, both family & business ones a lot more. So l benefited a lot more than just losing the weight, l'm hoping this is what will motivate me to ensure that l maintain - l want to maintain not just the weight loss, but also the new more positive, confident, happy me.
Keep trying. Keep praying, you are never, ever alone on this journey - God is ALWAYS with us. You WILL succeed. Be patient & kind with yourself, really do take it a day at a time, hour by hour, when necessary. You will have setbacks, times when you will just give in, eat more or foods you shouldn't or not exercise when you had intended to, but as long as those times don't happen too often the lbs WILL come off. Try not to feel guilty when you have a slip up , going down the guilt route made me feel negative and just want to eat more (and sometimes l did & not even enjoy it), usually of the same stuff - crazy, l know!!
Don't expect too much of yourself too soon, but also don't have too low an expectation of yourself, you really CAN do this. Believe that you are going to make progress. Make mini goals along the way, rather than just think of the main end goal. I kind of think of it like a long road trip, you've got your main destination at the end, but you want to enjoy the route you are travelling or the journey just becomes very tiresome and you want to turn back, so every so often have a "mini destination" ie 7lbs lost, then the next one 14lbs lost etc.
As a Sparkfriend says on her page - Yes We Can.
