Party clothes now fit!

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Last month l bought a dress for our staff Christmas night out and a dress and bolero jacket for New Year, size 8 (UK size 12). When l bought them l could zip the dresses up, but they were tight and l didn't like how l looked in them. I thought having them in my wardrobe would give me motivation to stay on track and it did. I tried them on and they now fit great. I've been carrying a picture of them in handbag and also put one up on the door into the kitchen and another on the fridge which has helped resist temptation.

Smaller size clothes - yay!

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Bought some new exercise trousers today - was going to buy a size 10 (UK size 14) as l don't like things too tight, but they didn't have them in stock, so l bought a size 8 (UK size 12), thinking l'd have to wait a few weeks until they fit, tried them on when l got home and they fit now , l'm so pleased. emoticon

I've been doing a lot of walking & jogging, even though the scales have been slow in moving the exercise seems to be paying off as l feel l'm getting fitter, l'm really enjoying it too. emoticon

Happy, Happy Birthday!

Saturday, October 31, 2009

Tomorrow (1st November) is my birthday, l'll be age 43. It will be the first birthday in over 15 years that my weight is within the healthy range for my height. I've still got another 7 lbs to lose to reach my goal weight of 129 lbs, those last few lbs will likely be very slow in coming off, but l will get there. Having lost 69lbs so far I'm so happy that l've managed to get this far. I know the real big challenge of maintaining my weight loss lies ahead, but l feel positive and determined about that challenge.
To anyone who is struggling and doubting they can do it - NEVER, EVER give up. Keep trying, you can get there. Remember all those single lbs lost add up and before you know it you'll have lost a lot of lbs and be healthier and fitter.

When the going gets tough

Friday, October 02, 2009

I need to remind myself of this at the moment:

Please don't think of yourself as having failed. Failure is when you give up, turn away & go in another direction from where you want to be. You haven't done that. You may have paused on your journey, but you are still on that path and looking at the map so to speak. Sometimes we take a longer route than expected to get there, l know l have, l'm still getting there, but l will !!!.

At the beginning of this year l never thought l would have got as far as l have, but l started out controlling what l ate, eating healthily, but still having small treats now & again, eg at family birthdays or other celebrations & doing a little exercise and then a little more, building it up gradually, fitting in a few minutes whenever l could (life is so busy with family, home & work, but so are a lot of people's). I decided l couldn't kid myself any longer that l didn't have time for exercise (in the past l didn't like exercising, now l love it)- l HAD to make myself a priority even for 15 mins at a time, a couple of times a day. So with watching what l ate & exercising the lbs started to come off - sometimes slowly, but all those lbs have added up & l've now lost 62lbs (with 14lb more to go until l get to my goal weight). As important as losing those lbs have been & being able to buy clothes in much smaller sizes, which is great, the biggest change for me has been how much more positive l feel each day, l look forward to the day ahead when l wake, even when l know l've got such a lot to do. I feel more confident in meeting people at work, enjoy social occasions, both family & business ones a lot more. So l benefited a lot more than just losing the weight, l'm hoping this is what will motivate me to ensure that l maintain - l want to maintain not just the weight loss, but also the new more positive, confident, happy me.

Keep trying. Keep praying, you are never, ever alone on this journey - God is ALWAYS with us. You WILL succeed. Be patient & kind with yourself, really do take it a day at a time, hour by hour, when necessary. You will have setbacks, times when you will just give in, eat more or foods you shouldn't or not exercise when you had intended to, but as long as those times don't happen too often the lbs WILL come off. Try not to feel guilty when you have a slip up , going down the guilt route made me feel negative and just want to eat more (and sometimes l did & not even enjoy it), usually of the same stuff - crazy, l know!!

Don't expect too much of yourself too soon, but also don't have too low an expectation of yourself, you really CAN do this. Believe that you are going to make progress. Make mini goals along the way, rather than just think of the main end goal. I kind of think of it like a long road trip, you've got your main destination at the end, but you want to enjoy the route you are travelling or the journey just becomes very tiresome and you want to turn back, so every so often have a "mini destination" ie 7lbs lost, then the next one 14lbs lost etc.

As a Sparkfriend says on her page - Yes We Can. emoticon

Oh my, Disney, such an inspirational sharing from Holly 1949. It just sings to my soul! Thank you for the sharing, indeed.

Your body needed nourishment, yes, when you have a cold. The worst is over, the sun is breaking through in all it's glory! Can you feel it's warmth! {{{TWO POUNDS}}}, you! I'm about to leave on my hike, and I am grinning from ear to ear! AGAIN!...I will carry you in my thoughts of how wonderful you are!

I was just reading back over recent comments on my sparkpage. Holly1949 posted this:
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.
Unknown

That hit home with me - recently l thought l wasn't making progress, but it turns out l was. I need to learn to trust more in the process and believe in myself more - if l keep on the right path & do my best it WILL turn out right.

Thankyou to every one of you - l really appreciate your encouragement & support. emoticon It helped get me through yesterday.

Feel a lot better today. Weighed myself this morning - and l've lost another two pounds - yay! I know the number on the scale isn't the most important thing, but l've found it really hard staying on track this past week, especially when l had the cold & somehow wanted to eat more (& did a bit but managed to control it), but l'm pleased that my persevering has shown a result, just the little boost l needed right now.

emoticon emoticon{{{I LOVE THIS BLOG}}}!!!!!!!!!! Most of what you have written here is very similar to the kind of pep talk I have to give myself when I'm in the doldrums, Disney. You are a bright, intelligent, determined, BEEEEEEEEEEAUTIFUL spirit! As bright as the yellow of this blog page, and captivating as all the 62 pics you have created to honor this wondrous path of your journey. I know you would have 62 in your gallery had Sparks been able to contain it! Perhaps you should go out and take another 12 to keep in a separate keepsake to remind you of just how much your successes overflow!

If you have not done so already, go back and read your September 9th entry. What a proud moment that must've been! Remember how you felt that day! Go back and follow the path of all your other entries throughout all the ups and downs of the struggle. Reward yourself when you're feeling a little blue with a little something special - a special kind of flavored tea, a new blouse, bubble bath, a health or fitness magazine, a book, a new pair of warm and fuzzy house slippers. Fight back! When it really gets tough, go get a massage - just do it! You have earned it, Disney. What you have accomplished, in a relatively very short time when compared to what you have lost, has been absolutely phenomenal. Never forget that.

Remind youself, that this is not about the scale. Even when you reach your goal weight, the habits that you have honed will continue to be maintained as a new way of life, of behaving, and thinking. Thus, we have the rest of our lives to do this, Disney - there is no rush. Both you and I, we can choose to be patient and gentle with ourselves, to have reasonable expectations, to nurture our thoughts with faith and optimism, to treat our mind and body in a loving, encouraging, and respectful way that we so deserve. Fourteen is just a number. Do not give it any more power over you.

As I write this to you, Disney, I realize how uplifting and encouraging these words are for me, as well. And, I must thank you for this gift of sharing. With the right attitude, by reaching out to others when we need to, with our honesty and fearlessness, we can do this. They are not just words for those who hear. YES WE CAN! As I go on my hike today, I will hold you in my thoughts and abiding well wishes for your continued success. I have absolute faith in you, Disney.

You pinpointed it, exactly. It's not about perfection, but perseverance - and kindness to ourselves and others makes the journey pleasurable.

60lbs lost - yee hah!

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

I've now lost 60lbs (16lb still to go). Today l lost another lb to get to this milestone - I'm sooooo pleased as recently the scales had just been staying the same.
I'm also so glad l never gave up when the going's been tough. I think this is definitely a lot to do with all the motivation l find on Sparkpeople.com and the support & encouragement l've received from other members. Thankyou.
