Set a goal, accomplished a goal!

I set a goal last weekend of focusing on vegetables this week. I had noticed last week an overabundance of carbs in my diet and not enough fruits and veggies. So I shopped on Sunday, and brought home broccoli, squash, red bell pepper, onion, sugar snap peas, carrots. Washed it all and divided it into smaller bags, which made it a whole lot easier to grab some for raw snacking, or for steaming, or adding to rice or pasta. Has worked very well!

Oops couldn't resist a piece of cake this afternoon, although it wasn't too big. Still stayed under my points, but I need to be careful with sugar so I don't go on a binge.

WW v. Sparkpeople

I've been on Weight Watchers since the first of February and have lost an average of about a half-pound a week. Agonizingly slow! I only had a couple of weeks when I gained, and a few weeks when there was no change. I like the program a lot, but there are things about SP that I like better. I like to see all the nutrients -- particularly sodium and potassium. I like the fact that only members can see the blogs and forums. This is not true on WW -- it's open to the world, and of course, to trolls and spammers. So I guess I'll continue to go back and forth between the two.

Meanwhile, the past few weeks I've not done well on my "good health guidelines." I need to get back to planning my food, planning meals for the week, and making sure I am getting enough vegetables. These will be my goals this week.

    I have been with Sparkpeople several years and on and of WW online as well. I seemed to do better with WW because I felt more accountable (paying $$). In a year I lost 26 pounds-logged in my food and exercise faithfully. Did not participate in forums due to mentioned problems.
Yesterday I canecelled my WW membership and will concentrate on logging my food in Sparkpeopel. My exercise regimen has become habit at this point and I have learned the importance of food tracking. If I see where I can't continue to lose I'll rejoin WW-just a psychological thing I guess. Money should not make a difference but somehow in the past it seems to have been a good motivator!!!

    I don't think it has to be WW "VS" SparkPeople. I think they complement each other. My biggest problem with WW is the cost. You can't beat FREE.

Stage 2 Challenges

Moved into Stage 2 today but today will have its challenges. I'm having both lunch and dinner in restaurants so I'll have to remember all the goals of the stage, particularly portion control! Lunch is in a Cajun restaurant -- I can get a salad for sure. Stay away from the grits and begnets! Dinner will be at the Farmer's Market diner --lots of fresh vegetables there but don't overeat as they are often cooked with fat.

OK, I'm back

It seems I can't obsess about more than one thing at a time. So now I'm on Christmas break from school and I can get back to SP. School and working fulltime takes so much of my time and energy it's hard to squeeze anything else in! I haven't been able to exercise or walk because I fractured a bone in my foot in early October. Woe is me! LOL
