Tri for the Cure 5K March 23, 2014

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

This was really a fun race! My daughter and I had done the Tri for the Cure Duathlon for 6 years. Since I was flying in from Kentucky this year and I couldn't bring my bike, Lizzie, with me, I decided to run the 5K and be there to cheer her when she crossed the finish line. Of course, in all of the previous years, she's been there cheering me on because she is a little speed demon energizer bunny!

Her daughter decided to run the 5k also so we had 3 generation participation. It was really fun! My granddaughter is 12 and just starting to run so had only been working on 2 miles. She finished third in the 17 and under category - so proud of her. My daughter finished second in her age category and owned the running part! I finished first out of 1, haha! - my usual finish because there is usually no one else that old - 66 - running/biking! I took a minute and about 30 seconds off my best time which was 3 years ago in Hawaii!

It was so much fun to do this with Shae and Jayden! I hope the three of us can continue the tradition for many more years! I love running!

    I love 3 generations racing!
I also enjoy it when there aren't many in my age group running, but for some reason, Houston is home to a lot of aging runners. Every now and then I luck out. You go, girl!

New Orleans Rock n Roll Half Marathon Relay 2/2/14

Sunday, February 02, 2014

I loved New Orleans and loved this race!

I got up at 6 am and got ready for the race, walked from the hotel to the race, and got there in time to walk into my corral and take off! The weather was misty and the temperature was perfect!

The one glitch in the race was my new Gymboss! I hadn't used it before and didn't have my glasses so had to guess how to start it and guessed wrong and messed up the settings so badly I couldn't use it. I pulled out my iPhone and used it to run my 30:30 then noticed 4 "youngsters" ahead of me that seemed to be doing the JG method. They said they were doing a 4:1. Wow! I'd never ran a 4:1 but thought I'd try because it was sort of annoying to try and watch my phone. I kept up with them for the first 4 miles then couldn't keep running that long without a walk break. Next I met a couple of nice ladies who were doing a 1:1 so I ran with them to the relay transit station.

Any way, as a result of the first 4 miles, I think that today's race might be my best pace ever including 5Ks.

I thought I was running 7.5 miles but it turned out to be 8.

The scenery was beautiful and the meal at Oceana afterwards was the best ever!

I loved this race and highly recommend it! It was the perfect ending to celebrating my 66th birthday week!

Way to improvise! I've done that before - totally mess up my Gymboss. I just ran by feel. So glad you enjoyed your race.

7 year anniversary of 100 pounds lost

Sunday, September 15, 2013

I have kept off 100 pounds for 7 years. I am really proud of that. Here I am enjoying a 10 mile bike ride on my anniversary day.

The day before, I ran 6 miles. The day after I did an arduous 10 mile hike. Here I am January 1, 2005.

I am so proud that I have kept this much weight off. I remember that I could barely walk from my car into the house after work because I was in so much pain from packing all of that weight!

I wish I could say it has been easy to keep the weight off. Once in a while it is effortless, but too often, I battle the urge to pig out on junk food. I am going to post every year on my anniversary so I can get through those tough days (even if I am a little late; last week we moved; didn't have time to post but took time to exercise; love that I have become addicted to exercise). Yesterday I ran 7 miles; today I biked almost 13 miles. I feel so thrilled that I am able to be this physcially active at the age of 65.

Thank you for sharing. Sharing each year is a great idea! I wonder what % of people keep weight off for 7 years and counting, when they have lost that much. You are definitely one of maybe 5% I bet!!! Congrats.

You should be very proud. I've probably lost a hundred pounds several times over that same span of time, but keep letting it back in the door. Your success is motivation for others. emoticon

Challenge 3: My reminder of why I want to work hard during the summer challenge!

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

List all the reasons I want to lose weight.

1. I want to run races until I die and the extra weight isn't good for my joints. emoticon
2. I want a high quality of life for as long as I live! Quality is more important than quantity! emoticon
3. I want to look unfat when I look in the mirror! emoticon
4. I want to wear the clothes I was wearing two years ago. emoticon
5. I want to change my relationship with food. I still use it too much as a mood changer and soother. emoticon
6. I want to change my accountability perseverance after 6:00 pm every day. emoticon
7. I want to enjoy all foods but in the appropriate amounts! emoticon

Last blog for the challenge!

Friday, March 08, 2013

I feel short of my goal of blogging every day by a long ways. Just too exhausted by the long work days trying to get caught up. I get on top of the organization, discipline and lesson prep and a test comes along and I am buried again! Ah, well! Only 10 more weeks. I'm sure I'll survive. The students are bonding with me quickly. That is the benefit of replacing two really bad uncaring teachers. I am actually appreciated! Teenagers! They're happy that I am actually teaching them math while every day they try to talk me into doing nothing! :)

The next LTGL will be cake as I already have to do that to keep my 65 year old body in running form! :)
