Inspiration Through Music

Friday, November 11, 2011

The last two weeks have been nothing but tough. Work has been kicking my butt. My health has not been cooperating with me. I have not been eating as well as I was doing two weeks ago but have kept within my calorie intake. I have exercised maybe three times in the last two weeks. I have been logging my food but have not read any blogs or kept contact with any of my spark friends. I was finding myself slowing moving towards a downward spiral and heading towards a depressive state. I allowed all of the things mentioned earlier to affect me in a negative way. I was allowing negative thoughts to fester in my mind as they love to do from time to time. Then two days ago as I was driving home from work, I was listening to the radio and Miranda Lambert's song called Baggage Claim comes on. I know pretty much all of the words. I am a fan of her music. I blasted the radio, I began to sing loudly and by the end of the song I was laughing. I decided to throw all the baggage from the last two weeks and dump them in the "lost and found." Right after that Kellie Pickler's song Tough comes on and I continue to sing and realize that I can tough it out this funky mood I've been in. I need not let the craziness of life affect me the way I've allowed it to. I heard or read this saying years ago. There are times when I can't change the things that go on around me but I can change the way I react to them. So I choose to react differently to the craziness that takes place at my job. I choose to take better care of myself and I choose to appreciate the things I have in my life that make it all worth it. I'm blogging this so I can go back and read it when I find that I am allowing negative thoughts to creep into my brain. I also hope that if anyone else is having a hard time that they might decide to put on some music and find a little inspiration just like I did.

Yesterday's walk/jog

Monday, October 10, 2011

I joined the 5K walk/jog challenge and this is week two of that challenge. I've been doing my WATP DVD's on a daily basis and have incorporated a light jog whenever it says to walk. Yesterday I went for a 2 mile walk around the neighborhood and decided that I was going to try to walk for two minutes and jog for one minute. I started with a warm up and then began my jog. Then I realized that I did not have a watch. lol So decided to walk for two blocks and jog for one block. After jogging the first block, I was so out of breath but I continued on in my journey. I knew that once I got back to my home, it would be one mile. So after my first mile I was tired and almost gave up but I decided to drink some water and do the second mile. As I walked the sun was setting. I took a look around my neighborhood and was enoying just beign outside and even the jogging didn't seem so tough the second time around. I did my two mile walk and jog and let me tell it you, it's tougher than the WATP DVD's. I'm going to be honest, I was a bit self-concious about doing it around my neighborhood. I did wonder what I looked like to others jogging at 262 pounds but as I passed my neighbors many of them greeted me and smiled. A few months ago, I could barely walk a block without getting tired. Now, I have walked a 5K and I am getting ready for my 2nd 5K. I can't believe that I was able to jog so many blocks yesterday. I'm still a big woman but I feel stronger and healthier and that makes me a happier person, wife and mother. I think I'll go for another walk around my neighborhood again today.

emoticon emoticon I also have been going for walks/jogs around my neighborhood as well. We're finally getting some nice fall weather emoticon in South Texas so it's been really nice. I take my Shih-Tzu out for the 1st go around and then I go home and drop her off and I take off for a 2nd round. I, like you, have been doing a walk/jog combo and it seems to be working. LOL!!! I dropped 1.5 lbs this week and I had Chocoflan this weekend. emoticon Well, keep up the great work and the best of luck on the rest of your weight loss journey!!! emoticon

My first virtual 5K

Sunday, September 25, 2011

I joined the SP virtual 5K your way challenge 5 weeks ago and have been training by using the walk away the pounds videos. I alternated between 2, 3 and four mile walks. For 5 weeks I have walked at least 5 out of 7 days. I've been feeling lousy for two days with a bad cold and almost decided not to do my walk this morning. I lay in bed for about a half an hour and then just decided to get my behind up and go for my walk. It was the best decision ever! I tracked my walk on the virtual tracker and took my first 5K walk around my neighborhood. The walk was different from my WATP DVD's. By the end of the walk my legs were all wobbly, my entire body was hot and sweaty. I was so proud of myself because in the past I would have used any excuse not to exercise. I still have my cold but I feel energetic and most of all I feel like I've accomplished something I never thought I would be able to do. I've already joined another walk but this one is a bit more challenging because it's a walk/jog and I am looking foward to meeting another goal. I want to thank all of my SP friends for your support!

As much as I love WATP, I also find that "real" walks outside are quite different, in my case: MORE challenging, and walking 3 miles takes me much longer outside!!! Is that just me???
Anyway, excellent job on your 1st race :-) Keep going :-)
Take care,

Congrats on joining your first walk. You're doing a great job training. I also love doing the Walk Away the Pounds. (I have 6 different DVD's so far) You'll do great on that second walk/jog. Thankfully, that exercise high is so addictive. Keep on sparking!
