I do better on my weightloss journey when I am working. When I am idle, I tend to fill the time eating. So I've been back at work for a week and I'm back down in the zone I was in before the holiday. That's great to not have lost too much ground because I seriously didn't work my plan over the holidays! I have a bit of a food obsession/passion/fixation or whatever you want to call it. I am very interested in food! I love the food channel and cooking magazines, grocery shopping, eating out, whatever.

Work has been really stressful lately and my emotional state has been awful. Last fall, I had shingles, and I can't help connecting them to my stressful state. For the last week I've had a diaherea (spelling?) Still, I'm not dealing with this unhappiness with food and that's a change. I don't like intestinal unquiet, but when you weigh more than 200 pounds however the weight comes off is a silver lining.

I am back on my eating plan too: minimizing but not eliminating starches and eating a lot of veggies, nuts and protein. I am avoiding sugar in as many forms as possible like baked things and candy. This is the only eating plan I have ever been able to adhere to.

    I've been having the same tummy issues as well and have lost 4 pounds. I certainly don't want to continue like that, but I was excited to see the weight come off!

I'm counting calories and eating lots of fruits and veggies. It worked for me before so I'm sure it will work again.

I went off the Spark Grid for quite a while. Hopefully some of my old friends did not and will make contact. I actually gained quite a bit of weight too and hit an all-time high last summer. I had a health crisis and stepped on the doctor's scale and was amazed and appalled by the number I saw. I have since lost 25 pounds. What worked for me? Right sizing portions and low-carb choices including a lot of salad. I have bumped up a bit over the holidays though. Nevertheless, I am stoked to lose again in 2011 (tomorrow)!

I started a new team for those of us over 200 pounds that are interested in finally breaking the barrier and getting below that number in 2011. Please consider joining the Under 200 in 2011 team. I need everyone's support to get myself to do it and I want to support all that need it. I hope to see you there!

    So terrific to hear from you guys again after all this time. Carol, are you still in Brunswick? I thought you were thinking about relocating. I have lost some weight recently. I haven't been doing too well in December, but I think I'll be back in the weight-loss world when work starts back up. I really want to get below 200 in 2011--at last!

    Welcome back! I have been off the radar for a year too! I found out I was pregnant in early January. I wanted to get back on after having my little one but she keeps me so busy. I told my husband I need to find the time. Any little bit will help at this point.

I lost weight with Atkins, but just can't bring myself to do it again. I lost weight on South Beach, but just can't get fired up to eat 4.5 cups of veggies every day. I am a slave to my eating. I'm trying a new weight-loss strategy called the Shangri-la diet. I read about it in Freakonomics (great provocative read to discuss in another blog) so I investigated it. It's simple and it's supposed to combat a voracious appetite. I don't know if it's working having only done it for 2 days. I have to drink flavorless oil a few times a day (small amounts). I am to avoid "ditto" foods, which are foods that are the same every time you have fast food and processed food. I will let you know if it's working!

    Interesting idea!! Sounds like a good way to jump-start the process if you're stalled, even if you don't stick with it long-term!

I do more sparking in my head than in actual fact. Today though I went to a hip-hop class and made it through 20 minutes before I just got tired of not being able to do the choreography. I spent 20 more minutes on the treadmill to compensate. Reading about eating down the house has me thinking of ways to use up the perishables in my fridge--in a sparky way! Yea for me!

    If you enjoyed the hip hop class, keep going back. I promise it will get easier. When I first tried Zumba, I felt totally out of it trying to follow all the different moves, but as I have kept going it has gotten easier and I'm not nearly as self conscience about it. You'll see other newbies come in and you'll see that same frustration on their faces that you once felt. I have really started to enjoy my Zumba class.

    Good for you for going to the hip-hop class!! Keep it up and you'll be able to get through the whole class. I've been bad and haven't been to the gym in a few weeks. Life gets more hectic in the summer but that's no excuse!

    Yes, kuddos on trading out the time on the treadmill. I've been doing zumba classes for months now, and I still don't know or remember all the moves. But the important thing is to keep your body moving and finding what YOU enjoy (as someone so wisely told me)!

    Heh. I remember getting frustrated in the initial days of taking cardio classes (step in those days). But you know what? Stick with it. After 2 or 3 more classes, you'll KNOW the patterns, and then it'll all be easy! :)

Thoughts after watching Oprah yesterday

I watched an epi of Oprah that featured participants of the Biggest Loser TV show. All had lost enormous amounts of weight with the show. Some had regained though when they left the show and went back to normal life. If anyone can relate to this phenomenon it would be Oprah.

What I took away from watching this though was that it's okay not to aspire to be an itty bitty size. For me, the hardest thing about weight control is MAINTAINING. I think that's the hardest part for most people.

TBL trainers acknowledged that working out to the degree the people on the show do is unrealistic for most regular people, but if the TV people can give 5 hours a day, surely we regular folk can give 5. Hmmm

  Hope you are enjoying your summer. I watched that one too. I wish they would change the name from the Biggest Loser to something else. What they do is inspiring, but it kind of communicates the message that you have to drop and forsake everything to get real results. I would like to see them all do it within the context of the real world. emoticon

    Good thoughts. This links to the SP theme of making a "lifestyle change". Dieting does not lead to sustainability. A lifestyle change is needed in order to maintain the gains. Easier said than done, I know.
