School's out! School's out!

Saturday, May 23, 2009

We had our last day with kids yesterday (Friday, May 22). The last week of school is one of the hardest times of the year for me--the kids just don't want to do anything. Luckily the school I am in schedules a few fun activities like a tug-of-war and talent show to use up our time since we stop taking grades 3 days before the year is over! I schedule board game days and movies for my students that are in class. I have watched the beginning of the 1970s Freaky Friday many times--haven't seen the end yet! I've had to babysit the kids who aren't eligible to participate in the fun activities and I just make them watch Freaky Friday! They moan but get drawn in anyway.

As far as my healthy lifestyle goes--it is at a standstill. But today I am going to go for a walk in the neighborhood between the raindrops--we've had rain for 7 days! I am going to make myself drink more water now that school is out and get myself rebooted for success.

Our family is planning a camping trip across the USA this summer. I need energy and flexibility to enjoy that. Need to rev up now!

WOW, school lets out so early there!! When do you go back to school? My kids get out June 12th and go back Sept. 1 I think. I'm looking forward to them being off. It will make my mornings less hectic since they'll be staying home most days.

Your summer vacation sounds fun!

Fun time in Florida

Friday, April 17, 2009

I took my kids to Cape Canaveral Wednesday and came home Thursday. We live just north of Florida so it was easy enough to do. We visited the Kennedy Space Center. If you have never been there, it is pretty fun and educational, especially if you like space and science. The price allows you to visit 2 days and the parking is free. We slept in a campground near the beach. It was very peaceful which is my kind of camping experience. The cleanup in the aftermath is daunting for me though--my van is TEE-rashed! Better get on it though--the kids started it and I know it is still a mess with lots to put away.

Whee! I *loved* the Space Center when I was there - but that was over 15 years ago now. Bet there's even more stuff to see now.

Have fun cleaning. Pull in to one of those gas stations that offer free vaccuum hoses and just suck it all up! :)

Happy Easter!

Sunday, April 12, 2009

It's Easter morning here and I got up early to get a shower and to see if the dress I bought a few months ago would still fit--it did! I have ironing to do though.

We will be attending church at 8:30 and then home by 11. I am preparing a feast for our family and a good friend to eat later: pork loin, spring veggies, scalloped potatoes, strawberry trifle. It isn't very sparky, but it is home cooking. It will be satisfying and I don't have to have a large portion. Usually we eat out on Sundays but since it's Easter, I decided to cook.

This week we are on spring break (I am a teacher) and I am taking my kids down to Cape Canaveral to see the space center. Since we are planning to go camping this summer, if the weather is good, I'm going to pitch a tent down there at a campground near the beach. Kids will be very excited! Too bad my husband has to work--he teaches in Florida and already had his spring break.

Anyway, have a great Easter and don't overdose on Peeps!

I hope you have fun with your kids! My oldest is on spring break this week too. I usually like to take some time off and we go somewhere, but becasue of my surgery and having to take more time off to recouperate than anticipated we aren't going anywhere this year. She is enjoying getting to sleep in though. Have fun!

I LOVE Peeps and got 2 packages. YUM!!

That's great that your dress fits. It's a good feeling, isn't it?

You're Spring Break activities sound fun! My kids are on Spring Break this week too but my husband and I didn't take any time off. I don't have enough time to take off and my husband takes off Christmas time instead. They'll enjoy sleeping in. If the weather is decent I think they'll go on a bike ride or two. My son is really an outdoorsie type so if it's nice outside he'll be playing outside.

Have a fun Spring Break!!

The latest

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

I have not been very focused on my health and it shows in my clothes--bummer! It is on my mind, but I'm lacking motivation.

I've been kind of busy at home lately with work and family. My husband had a surgical procedure last week and I went camping before that with my cub scout son. That was a great time. I am going on spring break next week and looking forward to some time with my kids. The weather is terrific lately between crazy rain storms.

I am trying to get back on the horse regarding my Sparking though and am making myself avoid sugary treats like candy and baked goods. I have been good about this plan. I find the more of those kinds of things I eat, the more I crave them.

I'm with you about not "sparking" lately. I have been so busy with the Easter pageant at my church that I just haven't had the time. Sunday night was our last performance so now I have my life back. I assume your husband's procedure was the hernia operation you told me about. I sympathize. I'm still not back to parr, but my surgeon says I'm doing great. My oldest is on spring break next week too, but I have to work. I may take some time off though. I know you'll get back on the horse. We always do, sometimes it just takes a little longer.

I agree about craving the sweets the more you eat them. I'm the same way. You'll get back on track!!!

I hope everything with your husband is OK!!

Sounds like you've been pretty busy! Enjoy Spring Break next week!! Mine are off next week as well for Spring Break but I have to work. Bummer.

Do you participate in the Spark Streak program? It's where you set a goal and then click it every day that you accomplish the goal. I fell off the wagon with my streaks until recently. I've been clicking the boxes for getting to bed by 10 with lights out and TV off. It is a nice feeling to get a little streak going. You hate to break it. It can really motivate you. I noticed that there is a thread on this subject which got me to thinking. I think I'll start thinking of some do-able actions I can take and get some streaks going.

How about you? Do you have a streak of good behavior on Spark?

Thanks for coming by my blog. They didn't have the streaks last time I used SP, so I'm just starting to use it. Any ideas on things to add? I've been tracking my water with it. :)

I have not been doing streaks since June when I found out I was pregnant. Now that the baby is here I want to start back with the streaks I have just been scared to start. I know that it is a little strange but where do you start when you are so out of the loop.

I love the streaks - except once in a while I forget to track it and then I am disapointed in my stgreak report! I need a goal : remember to track goals"!!!!!

I try to make sure I'm drinking my 8 glasses of water every day, and to try to remember to take my second calcium supplement at the end of the day, which I always seem to forget unless I am tracking it on SP.. I usually make those goals in the challenges I do, so I don't necessarily track them as streaks, but I do try to keep the streaks going!

The one I am trying hard to get consistent on is simply getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night ... that's the one I fall off with awesome regularity. Doesn't seem to matter what time I get to bed, I still manage to wake up after just about 4 to 5 hours!

Oh, well, back to the drawing board!

Yes, the streaks are definitely motivating!
