Merry Christmas!

I had a nice Christmas Day with my husband, kids, mom, sister, niece and nephew. I made a big ole messy lasagne. I would love to learn the secret to making it in a way that comes out of the pan. I will try other techniques than the seat-of-your-pants method I used for this one. it used a lot of sauce and was pretty messy. People thought it tasted good though and that's the most important thing!

Hubby bought me a used Ipad for Christmas and I like it. It's an upgrade from my netbook as far as reliability goes. Not so great for blogging though since I'm a typing machine. I could probably benefit from a keyboard, but probably won't get one any time soon. Kids seemed satisfied with their gifts although son's XBox was used too. Even though our new electronics were used, they are top of the line of when they were new with huge memories so that's pretty cool. And they are operational!

I skipped my Wii workout yesterday since I was busy getting ready for today and went to a party, but managed to get 30 minutes today. The party was fun, but several of the guests were hammered by the time we arrived. Our kids aren't used to seeing drunk people. They weren't bad drunks, just loud and used foul language. We left after about 2 hours. It's nice to do social things.

I knew I'd be off the wagon with eating and all my routines with Christmas, but I am getting back on the saddle tomorrow. I even abandoned my water! I have a few things to do but I'm not going to make my fitness and health come in second place. My dad gave me some cash. I'm thinking about investing in some fitness equipment like a ball and some stretchy bands as well as a mat. I do not like to do fitness that requires me to get on the floor because it's hardwood. I have a time getting ON the floor and then OFF! That alone is a pretty strenuous activity for me! I think I'd like to get the fitness pack here on Spark that's been out of stock lately. Maybe it'll be IN stock soon.

I've meandered through my immediate thoughts enough. I hope we all have a great rest of the holiday week and live strong in 2013!

    Yep, a mat is a must if you have hardwood floors! Good luck and have fun spending your Christmas cash!

I got my wish of a Wii fit plus for Christmas, but haven't had a chance to hook it up and learn how to use it yet. Hopefully today or tomorrow!

Glad you had a nice holiday....but now....back on the wagon!

    T o get lasagne out of the pan easily line it with wide aluminum foil twice, make it a foot longer than the pan on both end and curl them tightly together to form handles for lifting it out of your dish, but your will need either a bigger pan or a large platter as lasagne produces a lot of oils that may run off.

Ipad- You could get dragon naturally speaking 11 for it, it is an app that types what you say (no keyboard needed- I love the program and I do not lose my thought while typing.

You will do well have a Happy New Year emoticon

PS I noticed you end lasagne with an e, this is usually done in europe and England. If I may ask have you traveled or live outside the US. I myself have traveled the world when I was in the military and found the other cultures fun and exciting.

It's good that you are teaching your kids great habits especially about buying things that are second hand. That's a skill they can take with them out into the real world for sure.

Got a little cold.

I woke up yesterday with a bit of sore throat and proceeded to sneeze the day away along with a runny nose. Went to bed with nighttime cold meds and woke up with more cold. I'm making chicken soup today. I'm making my own recipe.

I'm defrosting frozen chicken tenders and sauteeing them in a bit of olive oil and garlic. Then I'm adding a box of chicken broth and a bag of cole slaw. I'll season it some, maybe add a jar of tomatoes my mom put up for me. Yummo (I hope) and they say chicken soup is good for what ails ya. Here's hoping.

Wii Fit says I'm up a pound, but I'm not moving my ticker unless I don't come down before the new year. I'm doing everything as right as I can so I expect more pounds off NOT on! Need to go do some Wii Fit Plus training exercises in a bit. My son went a solid hour on the expert bike ride yesterday and then 2 30-minute rides. He says his calves are sore today. He's trying to catch up with me and get a bronze pig too. I get 30-60 minutes every day and he has missed a few days, but he's hot on my trail!

    It must be the thing, for I also came down with a cold on Wednesday. Been steaming myself everyday and hope to shake it by Christmas. Holding at 177.5 and happy about that. Threadmill is about all I am getting done right now. Did put my granddaughters dance tape in the other day and did some of that. She wants it back after Christmas so might have to get me one. emoticon Get better!

Weight coming off

My Wii Fit says I'm down a pound or so. I can tell you what I'm doing that appears to be working. I am drinking my water. I feel like I am in a swimming pool I drink it so much! I am drinking from 6-10 cups a day. I am taking a lot of restroom breaks but c'est la vie!

I am not grazing. I have had some not-so-great food choices, particularly when I'm not home, but I am not grazing and snacking...well...not without being mindful! I ate a few potato chips last night, but not very many. There was a time when I would have eaten most of a bag! I am trying to fit in vegetables daily. I could do better on that front. I'm trying to keep away from starchy choices and I get tired of salad all the time, but I AM eating more veggies and a few fruits too.

I am getting in my movement. I have been wearing my pedometer. I haven't done any walking in the neighborhood but just doing my around-the-house fitness and going on errands racks up a lot of steps. I have a step in my house and when I am in that part of the house, I go up and down the step 10-20 steps to try to work my legs. I jog in place sporadically. I do activities on Wii Fit Plus for at least 30 minutes and have been known to exceed an hour at times.

I'm taking a fiber supplement. I don't know if I could attribute more action in the bathroom to these supplements, but I have been taking them for about a week. These also have chromium that supposed to help with weightloss. I am taking Omega-3 Fatty Acid supplements and a multivitamin too. I'm thinking about adding a D supplement. My husband takes a lot of supplements. I am not crazy about taking pills but I guess I could take as many as he does too.

I'm getting my 8 hours of sleep. Granted I go to bed late and get up late, but that's still 8 hours!

I am coming to Spark daily. I keep up with my SparkFriends and what they are doing to melt away the pounds. I like to encourage as well as be educated. I also like to log in my water and fitness. I need to do a better job logging in food too. Room for improvement!

The next week will be the most challenging I think. Just going to do as you are pretty much - drink a ton of water and exercise so focus on what I can control.

    You are doing great - every pound lost is well - a pound lost! Keep doing the Wii Fit, that's very good for you. If you can just find time to log your food I think you will see where your calories are hiding and you might make different food choices. It works for me. I have lost 18 pounds in three months by logging my food and walking thirty minutes a day most days. That's my secret. Nothing to it!

    WOW! Congrats on all the prgress and healthy habits you are committed to now!!!! Step by Step you WILL get there! You are doing all the right things! I have to say eating veggies is my least favourite thing about eating healthy but I always remember that Fibrous veggies are the car that takes your fat out your butt!!! So I visualize all my fat sticking to the spinach and going down the toilet! :) Gross huh?! I consider green veggies medicine for a fat butt! You don't like taking medicine but sometimes you have to and it works! :)

What's happening with me...

I haven't felt motivated to write a blog for a while, but that's not to say I'm not working my plan or have abandoned SparkPeople. I still log in every day. I still check my friend feed to see what my peeps are up to on their blogs and status updates. Still spinning that wheel and logging in my fitness minutes.

I'm not that great at logging food these days. I know when I have a pig-out day, I'll have some terrible numbers. Yesterday hubby and I ate at Chile's (or is it Chili's?) because we had a gift card. We had to go to the Apple Store in Jacksonville which is about 35 miles away. It's so hard to be super-good at a restaurant, especially when you can have just about anything you want money-wise! We ate chips and guac. I love guacamole. It's high in calories and fat, but the fat is good for you. Go figure. I chose a steak as my entree that came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I hardly ever eat mashed potatoes because my kids don't like them (isn't that weird?). I chose to drink water to push my water intake. I'm doing great in that department!

When I got home, I decided not to fix a dinner since hubby and I were stuffed. The kids don't mind "fending for themselves" so I didn't feel too bad. I ended up knocking out the low-fat cookies I made. Those cookies are so good. They don't have butter in them, but they do have brown sugar and canola oil along with whole wheat flour, oatmeal, greek yogurt, and raisins. Hopefully the fiber offsets excessive calories, carbs, and fat! They are gone now, so the temptation is gone with them.

I'm still doing my Wii Fit. I love how it keeps up with fitness minutes and calories burned. I input whatever the Wii tells me I accomplish each day. I am also wearing my pedometer and logging in the piddly number of steps I am getting. I thought I would rack up some steps going to the Town Center since parking is always a bear, but I've made more steps today just knocking around the house than I did yesterday! I'm still into my NEAT moving to not be sedentary for hours on end. I think I'm getting a little stronger muscle-wise with all these calisthenics!

I have purchased just about everything I'm going to for the kids' Christmas. I need to get busy wrapping! The kids love to rip open presents. They are not into gift bags.

It's terrible what happened in Connecticut. I have seen some of the coverage on TV, but I don't watch a lot of it. I get to feeling terrible when I focus on these kinds of tragedies. I love how Saturday Night Live had some kids singing "Silent Night" in the CT victims' honor. I also liked the singing on Wendy Williams's show in their memory. I know schools all over America are thinking of ways to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring in their location. I feel we must all live boldly despite the evil in the world. If God wants me to die in a hail of gunfire, I'm prepared to go. I refuse to let fear and worry stop me from living or to stop my kids from living. I know I'm not in the majority, but I think we need more gun control in the USA. I don't think we need for our citizens to have automatic weapons. I don't think people should be able to buy guns at gun shows without background checks. I think guns and ammo should be taxed heavily and ammunition needs to be as controlled as sudafed is. Laws won't prevent every nut from going on a killing spree, but they could have an effect. No other country is as free and easy with guns as ours and no other country has as much gun violence either. Please don't respond to correct me of my views. You are welcome to your own. Trust me, my Facebook buddies and Sunday School Class have reassured me that gun laws are just fine the way they are. We don't have to agree.

I am so happy that you are feleing more strong and that you are still getting your Wii Fit time in and that you are getting along with the computer. I still find it horribly funny that it makes comments that are not always motivating! I laugh at my best friend's when she uses it. She just found out she is pregnant and it told her that she was "packing on the pounds, aren't you?" I hollered laughing and grabbed my tummy laughing and she GLARED at me... a very serious glare. She is not a happy pregnant woman. Not at all!

But congratulations for keeping it going. I am proud of you!

    I think you're doing great. I'm pretty sure we all think that someone out there is doing it "perfectly" and that that someone is NOT us. I think there's imperfection built into the program. People will slip. Last week I had to play a show where I broke down and ate milk-based risotto, salmon (not that bad for me except the piece was HUGE), and bread pudding with caramel sauce for dessert. But it was just one day, out of 14. Pretty good odds if y'ask me.
Funny thing about it is, we think we want to reward ourselves for perfection only; for logging in every day, consuming the water, tracking like pros, long, loong sparkstreaks, exercising for hours - when in truth overcoming slip-ups is one of the most key aspects of this program. There should be a TROPHY for THAT!!
So, here ya go:

    Sounds like the spruge wasn't that bad. We have to "treat" ourselves once in awhile to know that we are human. As long as we get back on the right track afterwards. It shows we are learning we can control our mind and mouth.

Working at a school, I understand the heart felt problems of protecting our kids.
We have a good lock down situation at ours but some soul with problems could always find a way. Mental health needs to looked into more for the young.

I wasn't going to bake anything this year but the kids looked disappointed so broke down and made some cookies and homemade caramels for them. We always do just snacks on the Eve and do games with the kids after church. Christmas day is a meal of Ham, potatoes,pineapple hot dish and their pies. I plan on some sweet potatoes and being careful on how much I eat. I find I fill up faster now and can now stop before misserable. emoticon

    It was good to catch up with you. I am slowly making my way through wrapping gifts and making christmas treats for the kids teachers. I wonder if you burn calories resisting taste tests?

We share similar views on the loss of 26 people. I cannot watch too much because it makes me feel less than useless - all that pent up WHY and no where to put it. I did see a nice tribute on the Voice. It was quite moving. I happen to agree that more regulation is needed, but also, more avenues for people to get the psychological help they need for their kids, early on. So many opportunities to make positive changes - I hope our government can actually step outside their egos to make it happen.

Oh, and one other thing. Track your food. It'll keep you honest, and get you back on track if you are straying....watch out for that slippery slope!

    I so agree with your blog. We regulate everything except guns. It isn't logical to me. I don't get it. The Shriners have gun shows in my zip code. It makes me feel sad. I can no longer support them. They are going to the Rose Bowl parade so I can't support that. Not that I make any sort of difference. I'm just a tiny spark for this matter.

Sounds like you have your program down and I feel happy for you. Funny my husband and I just went out for lunch too and I even had some fries. Your timing was perfect!

Life is good. We've made it through the year. Can't wait to see how far all of us will be next year at this time. I bet we'll have done pretty well because yes, you and I are very bold and willing to take on challenges to achieve excellent results!!

It's a mental journey as well as physical

Something that upsets my program is dispair. I feel like I'm making so many good choices and yet the scales don't move, I then get a bit blue. When I'm blue over lack of progress, I find myself not tracking, eating more non-Spark foods, skimping on water, drinking sugar-free soda and wine. I also sit in my chair too long. When you lapse a day or two, it's sometimes hard to get back to the optimal focus. I've been back and to with Spark since 2009 so I know about losing focus!

This Sunday and Monday I decided to carefully track my foods and I think that's when I felt progress!

My take-away message is that we need to stay focused even when you get frustrated. Something we can do is just go back to the basics of the program: tracking, drinking water, consuming vegetables and fruit. When we do this, we can get our weightloss re-booted again. I bet those of us who are having trouble losing weight, we are also not faithfully tracking.

I'm listening to the Spark Radio for the first time. The narrators are so positive and perky! Not sure they are my exact cup of tea. Nevertheless, I need daily motivation, and information helps me. As some of you know, I like to read books on the subject of obesity and weightloss. I'm trying to read Jorge Cruise's book The Three-Hour Diet. I always feel like he'e more of an entrepreneur than a real weightloss guru.

Are you listening to Spark Radio at all? Thoughts anyone?

    I'm looking these days at how much better I'm feeling. Not just physically, but mentally. I think many of us who need to lose wait have the tendency over time to come to view food as a friend and substitute for other joys in life that we feel we are missing. I feel my best chance for success is when I stay very well pleased with other aspects of my life so this doesn't need to happen.
Don't know if that's relevant to your situation or not, but I DO know the feeling of really kicking butt one week only to get on that scale and see no change, or heaven forbid sometimes even an increase. It's important to remember that our bodies are very mysterious in the way they change and the up-down thing is part of it. We're gaining muscle, we're retaining water, our biochemistry is complicated. We have to have faith that we are giving our bodies the things they need for change and health and it'll all balance out in the end.
Let's not forget to keep our eyes on the ONE thing that insures success: consistency. Just keep going, despite anything and everything.

    Throw the scale out the window- it's just a tool, and it's not the only one we use on this journey. Tracking your food is very important. It's amazing how easily we can go over our caloric limits. If you can find some inspiration through the Sparkpeople Radio, more power to you. Every little bit helps! Best of luck!

    My dear friend, when that darn scale does not move we all get down in the dumps. Mine has stopped many times but decided I will not let it get me down. I step on it less now and just know that I am doing the right stuff for me. I am at the point that if I don't gain back that is a good thing and I am learning. emoticon

    I do enjoy listening at time, but like you said, they are quite perky and I am so not!

But I do listen when I am doing my blogging and messaging!

I als ohave to admit that I have been binge eating - cereal. And now that the hearing is over, I need to get my stuff together and get back on track. I weighed in yesterday at 252 and I was 247.4!!! BAD MOVES! But still walking and working out. Just need to change what I eat and cut carbs out!

    Great ideas!! I'm not listing to SP radio yet. When I got my program right, I stopped focusing on the scale as much. Although it's still there, you know? The need to get on it and measure my success and failure. It's tough isn't it that whole weigh in thing. I try to be disciplined and weigh only on Mondays. I'm glad we are doing this together because seriously, I'd be overwhelmed otherwise!

    I couldn't agree more that this is a mental thing. In fact I think more than anything my consistency and motivation is about my attitude.
I like the comment below from Nancysinatra . I used to post motivational quotes around to keep reminding myself.
I currently am sitting in front of a small zen garden that has objects in it that remind me of my reasons for wanting to lose weight. I am also wearing a wire ring on my finger to keep reminding myself to THINK about this.
Yes I have listened to spark radio. Not consistently but anything that can help to remind me to keep my head in the game, I am willing to try. Well almost anything.
Have a great weekend. No excuses for either of us. We can do this and we will be glad that we did.

I do not feel that I have "listened" enough to give a fair opinion as yet even though my first reaction was the same as yours "not exactly my cup of tea!!". But I will give them more chances and see how it goes you never know they may "grow on me" so to speak!!! emoticon

    I've listened a few times while sitting here doing my spark stuff. They are very bubbly and positive, and that is nice.
I have the same issue with motivation. I know this sounds silly, but it really has helped me. We went out and bought a pack of the large index cards. I take a marker and each week I fill our several of them with saying, quotes, comments, whatever hits me, then I post them all over my house. There is not a room in my house that does not have them. Right over my scale is one that says "the scale does NOT define me", and one that says "I am a warrior, I am a runner, I am an athlete". On my computer is one that says "you WILL feel better if you move", On my cabinet is one that says, Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels", on my TV " YOU ARE worth it", in my room "a 30 minute workout is ONLY 2% of your day", and on my mirror " Life is too short to spend it hating your body", on a picture frame as soon as I walk out of my room, "today is a NEW day". This isn't even half of what I have up. One of my favorites that is in the hallway "you don't drown by falling in the water, your drown by staying there". I love that one because like you, when I do lapse a day or two, getting back on track is hard.
Anyway, think about the cards, It's hard to listen to that negative voice in the back of my head when I see positive sayings all around me everyday. :)

    Have not listened so SparkRadio yet.
As for Jorge Cruise - just another guy who jumped on the weight-loss bandwagon for profit. Not to say that he has some good advise in there somewhere. You know, if it motivates you it's good.
Three Hour Diet?
Can you do a short write up?
Would be interested in what it is all about.
