Feel like I'm making progress

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

For the longest time, I felt like my weight just wouldn't come off. My scales just wouldn't budge no matter what. When I started doing my Wii Fit activities, one of the things I do is have a body check daily including weight, and according to this gadget, I AM losing weight. When I move my scales around the room, the number can vary. My floors are just not level. So today I changed my ticker for the first time in a long time and I am finally out of the 230s! I have been in them since the first of October. I gained a little during Thanksgiving even though I didn't pig completely out. Part of my poor eating is a kind of dispair since my numbers weren't changing. Now it's up to me to get that number in to the 210s! I hope I can be in One-derland by spring! I hope my weightloss becomes evident to all by that time!

Glad you're feeling the success. It does help to keep us motivated.
A word to the wise though;several years ago I lost 52 pounds and close friends didn't even mention it. I of course had to buy some new clothes and they might mention that a new style looked good or flattered me, but they never mentioned my weight. So my advice is don't hold your breath icing for that. You know you look and feel better. That's all you really need.

Congratulations! I am so happy to see the improvement and hear it in your tone!! YAY!

Don't worry, as I have been stress eating for you. I see 252 in the morning and 248 before I do any exercise. I think it is my IBS and the stress is just overwhelming me.

So after tomorrow, I need to get back on the wagon.. .and we will get to fnally meet somewhere for a stroll! YAY! I can smell the freedom to come, but can't taste it yet. Maybe all the raisin bran has stolen my freedom tastebuds! HAHA

Did very well today.

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

I made a personal commitment to do a better job of tracking this week as I have been off the tracking for a while. I would possible write down breakfast, but by the end of the day...no tracking. It's a problem to track when you eat a lot of homemade foods with unknown quantities of ingredients. I tried to put my split pea recipe in the tracker and I ended up with 3 copies and the nutrition facts seemed pretty unlikely. So I input the ingredients on my tracker as best I could yesterday.

I could still stand to get in more veggies and fruits still. Today I ate some leftover dirty rice I made a few days ago that had onions, celery, and bell pepper in it. So yummy. For dinner I pulled a bag of frozen mixed veggies out of the freezer and we ate that.

Today, I got in an hour on Wii Fit activities. Not all are killer calorie burners, but in my opinion, when I'm doing these activities, I am not sitting on a chair watching TV or being on the computer. I finally got through the obstacle course for the 2nd time.

I drank all 8 glasses of water I ought to drink (I only make it a goal to drink 6). I decided to start taking supplements after watching Dr. Oz the other day. I am not a good pill taker, but I am on a streak with them too. My husband is a faithful supplement taker. I'm taking a multi and fish oil. I also take fiber supplements that have chromium to aid weightloss. HOpe it works!

Happy sparking Spark Friends!

Need inspiration about "freggies"

Monday, December 10, 2012

This is not the greatest season for fresh veggies, and I am not crazy about canned or frozen ones. I do use canned tomatoes and tomato products a lot making soup, spaghetti sauce, chili, and such. I buy bags of salad with the best of intentions but usually have to toss some out before it's all eaten.

I buy bananas, grapes, oranges, and "cuties" (clementine oranges) for the kids. I try to avoid eating the fruit a lot because I think it's full of carbs and sugar.

I made a split pea soup today with onion, potato, celery, and carrots in it. No meat this time but I flavor it with curry powder. It's pretty good. I'm counting each serving I have as a serving a veggies. Exactly how much of a veggie or fruit qualifies? If I eat a big apple is that 2 servings? How about a big banana? If I eat soup with bits of veggies in it is that one serving or more? I usually err on the low side and hardly ever get all the ones on my spark tracker page. Maybe though I really am because I measure it conservatively. Do you think canned pumpkin used in baking muffins qualifies as a serving of veggies? I counted it today, but usually don't.

I am looking for veggie ideas. If you are eating veggies, please let me know.

I love using veggies in cooked meals so that I don't have to think about making them a seperate part of the meal. Like, a can of tex-mex corn in a casserole, or making a meat loaf that is stuffed with the spinach that is about to go bad ( emoticon ). I've also fallen head-over-heels in love with a soup based on this recipe :

http://www.epicurious.com/
recipes/food/views/Parsnip-Leek
-Soup-with-Lump-Crab-368312

I don't use the cream at all and made some other little adjustments (like using fake crab since it's wildly cheaper, and a little less butter sauce).

I'd recommend using the epicurious website to look up weird or new veggies and giving one or two recipes a try each week.

i agree with the roasting post! so true - love so many veggies tossed with a bit of olive oil and roasted in the oven until golden brown. delicious! emoticon

i also have carrot sticks and humus as a snack. the humus is a great source of protein and fiber, and of course the carrot sticks are great for you! you can also use cut up bell pepper as a dipping tool.

like the other posters, i mix veggies into other things. if it's a dish i don't think my hubby wants veggies in, i chop really fine. otherwise, he doesn't seem to mind a bit of broccoli in the pasta sauce... adds something different.

just try to add to each meal/snack and you'll get there!!

I read that orange and red vegetables help fight breast cancer. For me, I eat a salad twice a week and have fruit with cottage cheese a lot. I also eat subs with chopped vegetables (about 5 servings i think - extra on the spinach...

Hope this helps!

I weigh my fruits and veggies. Its easier than guessing what a 'serving is'. I also like the green smoothies. I find that spinach is the least odd, and I also add some parsley. I am partial to frozen blueberries, handful of spinach, 1/4 of a lime worth of juice, parsley, and 1/2 an orange, some yogurt or kefir, and give it a whirl in the blender. Its tasty, not too 'verdant' or green tasting.

I agree about the roasting of veggies, they are yummy that way.

As for fruits, yes they have carbs and natural sugars in them but if you eat them within reason they are good for you.

I'm all about roasting my veggies. Carrots, broccoli, green beans, asparagus, onions and peppers...they're all wonderful roasted in the oven or popped under the broiler. I've also been tossing fresh veggies I've already chopped and frozen into whatever I end up making. Adding it to spaghetti sauce is easy, or even to the kiddos' mac & cheese. I'll even add some to eggs at breakfast. Every little bit helps!

Fun Saturday with Wii Fit

Saturday, December 08, 2012

I have been the only one that used the Wii Fit until today. Yesterday I started doing an obstacle course on it and it was really fun. You get a sweat on and aren't bothered because the challenge is so compelling. Last night I told my husband I wanted him to try it, and he agreed to do so today. Then my 12-going-on-13-year-old son joined in and of course, being the athlete of the family, he cleaned our clocks! It is kind of like actually being Mario! I have over 45 minutes logged on today and usually I only get in 15-20 minutes.

If you have the $$ I think the Wii Fit is a great way to have an active good time with your family. I am so lucky my sister is letting me use hers. Hopefully she won't want it back for quite a while! Maybe never since my mom is moving in with her and has one too!

Not very faithful to streaks and challenges

Friday, December 07, 2012

I sign on for different challenges at different teams' pages. I am plain ole not faithful to these challenges! I said I'd work out for 30 minutes every day. These days I do about 20 minutes not including sporadic NEAT moving that I am incorporating. I feel a lot better though and Wii Fit says I'm losing weight. Hope Wii Fit is right! My humble scales haven't moved in the right direction in sooooo long. I was up a few pounds there for a while and now I'm back at my ticker weight...according to the scales. Wii Fit says I am down, but it's hard to see the actual number there. I'm just going to keep watching my food, pushing my water, doing my Wii Fit stuff (which is pretty fun), doing my NEAT stuff, minimizing wheat and other carbs, and trying to do the right thing. Hopefully the pounds will start to come off at a regular rate--that would be very motivating!

Thanks for all the support about my recent job search crisis. I did eliminate the bad recommendation and had a long talk with a former assistant principal who said he'd be glad to give me a good recommendation. My husband is in his 29th year at his job and if he can hang on for one more year, he'll be able to draw his retirement immediately. He had thought he wouldn't be able to until age 60 but my old AP says that's not true. I hope we get work elsewhere but wouldn't mind seeing him retire either. It's a conundrum--we need all the money!

Anyway, I do feel low about lost opportunity from that one interview thanks to the recommendation, but I am not a person who wallows in sadness. I am still the same cheerful and positive person. I could still use everyone's good vibes and prayers though if you have any to spare.

Keep going! You can do it! You can do anything you set your mind to do, and don't beat yourself up if you don't do a challenge. It sounds like you are doing other things that are good for you, and you should be very proud of that.

Sending positive vibes your way. I'm still looking too, for over a year now I've been unemployed. Trying to stay positive myself since unemployment runs out the end of the year. I feel all I can do is just stay positive, do what I am doing, and know it's in Gods hands. :)

Lots to spare for you! Glad to hear about your husband and the option to retire. Sometime I think just knowing one has the option can make all the difference in the world. You are very strong and positive and everything happens for a reason. Glad you are hanging in there. Just tiny changes are all that are needed. NEAT is awesome and I feel glad you are leading the way for us with this! I don't do the challenges because it's too much for me. Each person has to find their own way. I feel proud of you for blogging and getting it all out.

Thinking of you!!!
