Slowly getting there

Thursday, May 15, 2008

I am happy to report that I am down another few pounds. The weight is coming off slowly, but it was packed on slowly I guess. If I can put as much energy into losing it as I did putting it on, maybe I'll be back to a normal size in a year or so.

I am so glad I decided to do the South Beach Diet. It isn't hard to follow and there are not any calories or points to count. You just avoid carbohydrates most of the time. Once you make your mind up to do it and get in the habit, it isn't as much deprivation as you think it will be at first. There are tasty treats you can have when you need it.

Yea me!

The South Beach diet is great. It is so nice to finally see the scale moving down. Even if it is slow, it is moving nonetheless. I had hit a plateau for about a year where I would gain and lose the same two frustrating is that! I love South Beach, that is why even if I splurge once in a while on one cookie, all is not lost. I just keep on with SB and know it is still working. Good luck with your weight loss!

Congrats on the pounds coming off. You're absolutely right about SBD. It's so easy to follow, and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself at all.

I was talking with a friend of mine about South Beach. Her husband dropped 40 pounds a couple of years ago, and has managed to keep it off! She's sold on it, and so is her husband and their doctor.

Keep up the good work! You'll get there!

I need to get some new clothes for my trip, but I have resisted because I'm trying to lose weight. I haven't had new jeans in over 2 years. My mini-goal before my trip was/is to get down one dress size--and I have! I tried on jeans in my usual size and they were waaaay too big. I ended up getting some Ralph Lauren jeans and Jones New York jeans in a smaller size and they fit and look so good! I even wore the jeans to church on Mother's day!

At the mall I was tempted to eat Cinnabon's, but the line was really long. While standing in line, I looked at the menu to see if I could get a small treat, but the smallest treat was huge, so I left the line for the pretzel line--long too. I looked at the menu for a whole-wheat pretzel, but there wasn't one, so I left the line again! Miracle! I was able to resist temptation for my favorite treats. I ended up having a bowl of Mexican soup (not great but not a diet buster) and water. I went to Target and got nuts and more water to eat on the way home (35 mile drive). After fitting in the smaller jeans, my motivation has been renewed! Yippee!

Because I haven't really exercised, I am not losing weight quickly, but it IS coming off.

Congrats on going down a size and meeting one of your goals. I haven't changed sizes yet myself, but I'm close. Good for you in resisting the mall yummies. Cinnabon goes on the fat girl kryptonite list too!

    Hooray for smaller jeans!!!
Exercise just makes South Beach better. Try doing just what Dr. A says - take a little walk each day. Happy Mother's Day!! Trece

Staying on track despite roadblocks

Friday, April 25, 2008

I have been a little obsessed with getting through one of my classes I am taking online which requires extensive reading/writing. I have finished the work now, and won't be taking another until July. Yea!!! Without that class, I have run out of excuses for a little lifestyle change--adding exercise to my weight-loss plan.

I did lose some weight initially, and am sad to think I am on a plateau already! I am upping my water intake, lessening my coffee, and adding some movement! Here's to a breakthrough!

Exercise is very tricky but it does get better and dare I say it?? enjoyable!! Not all the time but it feels so good when you did what you set out to do and you can see yourself improving. It's all very gratifying! I hope the breakthrough you were hoping for happened!!! Take it a day at a time... I know easier said than done but I am sure you will do well!!!

Sounds like you're on the right track...and that you have the right attitude.

It's so easy to let other things take priority over ourselves. Our jobs, schooling, family, all seem to be more important at the time. Carve out that time for yourself. You deserve it! emoticon

Hopefully ending this class will help. Just keep plugging along...that's what I have done, and although I haven't lost as much weight as I would have liked, I am WAY healthier than I was a year and a half ago....You are good to increase the water, I have found that when I drink all my water, I lose weight...when I slack off...I either gain or maintain. The very best of everything to you!

Feeling pretty great!

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Getting on the scales and seeing a 4-pound decrease was very motivating! I feel so great that I have nearly finished 2 weeks of South Beach! I haven't indulged in eating off-limits foods, but I have not paid enough attention to portion control. I will weigh myself next Wednesday to see how I am doing, and will try to stay on phase one at least that long!

I am getting involved with a community gardening group so maybe that will add physical activity to my regime, and I hope to start walking or something as soon as I finish my current class (ends Thursday).

I am signing off now to WRITE THAT PAPER!!!

Good job! Focus on each change as a way to meet your goal.

Answer to why I am currently living in Italy: because Italy has extradition agreement with the U.S. government for child abduction. Even though I am the sole provider for my child, the Italian government will not let me leave the country with my child as a minor without her fathers permission (which he refuses).

The American government will not give me a passport for my child because the father won't sign off on it. I have an Italian court order allowing me to get my daughter her Italian passport once she is 10!

Gotta love the beuocracy. Well, have to live somewhere and medical care and college is free for my daughter here!

Way to go! That's awesome that you made it through Phase One and did so well! Gardening and walking sound like great healthy active ways to burn calories and enjoy the Springtime! By the way, I'm a teacher too...grade five. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my page and leave a nice note! Hope you are having a great day :D

Hi! Thanks for checking in anyway. I'm a true believer of South Beach, but my physical condition right now just needs something clear and defined so that I know where I am sitting. My food type are pretty much south beach though.

I am glad to hear you are doing great. Hang in there, it will feel even better as you move on!

One day at a time

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Losing weight means I must put diet and exercise in the foreground of my life versus in the background. I must be obsessed. I am trying to lose weight by using the South Beach Diet. I am on day 7 of this regime. I don't believe I've actually CHEATED on it even once! I have not been focussing on portions really or fat content as much I should, but I have been successful at NOT eating sweets, breads, pasta, rice or other carbs. When I checked my weight a few days ago, it hadn't gone down, but I'll check again during the week this week and hopefully I'll start to see lower numbers. Prior to starting, I really was OFF an eating program and indulging my self.

The one thing I am not doing well is moving. I really need to get motivated!

You can do it! You are right when you say you must put exercise and diet in the foreground! We are all worth that extra time, thought and effort! It is for our own health and well being! You will be a better mom, wife and teacher as you take better care of yourself and that includes a better diet and exercise! Have a great week!
