SHORT TRIP THIS MORNING

Wednesday, April 07, 2010

This is me and the pastors where I am building. The building looks a lot better than this now as the parsonage is almost done. We have a few more things to do which will take a few hundred dollars more but it is going to be nice for that part of Mexico.
This morning I met the pastor's wives sisters on this side of the bridge separating Mexico and the US.
I didn't realize they have papers to come over but they do so it worked out just fine.
There is continued violence there, one day it said eight more gunned down and the day before had a long list of killings. The girls said it is more calm right now but at night is when it is worse.
I am glad I did get the money for the building to them.
Thank you all for your prayers and for your comments on my blogs about Mexico and my work there.
Irene

It's so nice that the gals had papers to come to YOU rather than you going to them. I'm glad you were able to give them the money that you had for the projects. Thanks for stopping by my "Lousy Posture" blog.

Jane, the pastor is the builder. That is his profession. He is a great block layer and has done almost all the work himself. The people have put a little bit into it financially.

We praise the Lord your trip went well, Irene. Are the church Folk building or do you have a contractor? Our Son oversees some projects and works with the Africans, but sometimes the village folks lack in enthusiasm. I think we try to get them to put 10% into the finances and that doesn't always go well either. But they really are poor..we understand that. emoticon

ANOTHER UPDATE ON MEXICO

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I was absolutely shocked when I read the paper today. In Reynosa right across from me and where I have the church and parsonage they had shut off some of the streets and advised people to stay off of them.
In Matamoros two jailers were arrested for helping people escape from the prison. This is only about 70 or 80 miles from me.
In Zapata two helicopters were sighted from Mexico at different times.
Down in Mexico City which is far from me they are having uprisings.
A border patrol man was stoned as he tried to stop drug trafficers and of course he was on the US side of the border.
And all of this in one days paper.
We need to pray for Mexico and the US as well as many parts of the world.
I don't know when I will be able to get back into Mexico.
Irene

Irene, I come and go as I please and have no real inkling of what it must be like for those who are afraid to go out and must live behind closed doors.
One more think to talk to God about; prayers for a resolution of that conflict, safe living conditions for the people, and a reminder to me to thank God for His blessings of a safe place to live. How often do I think of that? I'm afraid I have taken it for granted.

I was just talking to a friend today about traveling to Mexico. She plans on traveling to Cancun, but she at least decided on a direct flight instead of a layover in Mexico City. I pray that this Holy Week will allow you spend some quality time with God. While you are away from Mexico, I know you feel closer than ever to the people you have ministered to for so many years. They always say when one door closes another opens. I am praying that God opens a new door of opportunity for your ministry.

UPDATE ON MEXICO

Monday, March 29, 2010

Today the pastor's wife, who also pastors with her husband, called.
Her sister has papers to come to the states so she is coming to pick up what I have for them. They said it is still dangerous over there. We wanted to dedicate the parsonage soon as it is almost finished but since the people can't come in the day they didn't want it in the day. She also said that church attendance is down as many stay home with their doors shut. They never know when something is going to happen.
So I will make arrangements this time for the sister to come over and hope this will be over soon. They shoot just anyone she said and have grenades also.
That is the last update.
Thank you so much for your prayers. God bless you and all of the missionaries in the whole world.

MEXICO AND THE US

Friday, March 26, 2010

I just heard at noon that some drug men escaped jail on the US side just recently. They catch them, put them in jail and then they have big shots in Mexico who help them escape.
Also found out today that there were about three cars, one with drugs and the others protecting him and the police went after them. That was on this side also.
They hit a van killing a lady and sending the other three occupants to the hospital in critical condition.
Seems like it isn't too save anywhere except under the shadow of the Almighty.
God has protected me and will until He is through with me.
My helper is coming over in a minute and bringing things for the day of the Child in Mexico. It is in April and we plan to go before then.
I know many of you have expressed your concern so thought I would update you.

SHOOT OUT IN MEXICO

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

On my status, etc. I told you that I received a call this morning from the lady who goes with me to Mexico and told me about the shoot out. Guess it was the worst in a while. She did not want to go tomorrow as we had planned and others had advised her not to.
I received e-mails from my other teams telling me not to go, received e-mails from Face book. Even received one from a missionary team on Spark. This missionary LADY told me it is even in the news in Africa.
I called Mexico where I go and they told me the shots came close to their house. A gentleman (married) from Monterrey that I have known for years called. My pastor called and said I should not go. I will go later if things calm down.
This has been going on for quite some time but seems to be getting worse. First it was between the drug cartel and the National Guard, now someone said they are mad at us because of the lack of tourists to Mexico.
So now you have most of what I know and I don't know everything. I will try to copy and paste this in a blog for the other teams.
Just hope it doesn't get any closer to the US. As Marcy said people from over here called 911 because it sounded like it was from here.
God bless all of you.
Irene

God's Spirit will direct you, Irene. We were in an African Country where all the Missionaries evacuated, traveling with our Son. We were scheduled for three weeks in country away from the violence and had no incidents. Our Classes went well. We had contact by radio and the Missionary in charge encouraged us to leave. But we didn't want to cancel Classes. Many had walked 20 miles to learn and we didn't want to disappoint them.

But you know the situation your are facing and you know the people. So base your decision after much prayer and I know you will get it right! Hugs, Jane

Irene, I don't where you were going in Mexico or where the shoot out was.
All I can say is that where I am in Mexico it is very safe - much safer than in most places in the US.
Border town are notorious for violence, drug related gangs etc.

It really bugs me how the violence is blown out of proportion up north and the media and State Dept. telling us that Mexico is not safe.
I'd rather be here than in any major US city - much safer here.

We all make decisions based on what we know and what we feel is best for us. If there was violence in the place you were traveling through or to, you made the right decision for you.

Sounds like you really need to stay here where you are safe.

It amazes me what people do to each other. My dad bought some property in New Mexico but he finally had to leave because there were two families down there that he said were like a modern day Hatfield's and Mccoy's. He was friends with both families, but they told him that he had to choose or they would kill him too. That was maybe 15 years ago. Some people are just nuts!
