On my status, etc. I told you that I received a call this morning from the lady who goes with me to Mexico and told me about the shoot out. Guess it was the worst in a while. She did not want to go tomorrow as we had planned and others had advised her not to.
I received e-mails from my other teams telling me not to go, received e-mails from Face book. Even received one from a missionary team on Spark. This missionary LADY told me it is even in the news in Africa.
I called Mexico where I go and they told me the shots came close to their house. A gentleman (married) from Monterrey that I have known for years called. My pastor called and said I should not go. I will go later if things calm down.
This has been going on for quite some time but seems to be getting worse. First it was between the drug cartel and the National Guard, now someone said they are mad at us because of the lack of tourists to Mexico.
So now you have most of what I know and I don't know everything. I will try to copy and paste this in a blog for the other teams.
Just hope it doesn't get any closer to the US. As Marcy said people from over here called 911 because it sounded like it was from here.

    Irene be safe, I would miss you. How far do you live from the broader? They have really had a mess down there a lot of my friends that usually go down there have stayed home.

I know you are disappointed, I would be too.

    I grew up in El Paso, and visited many times in Juarez. It pains me to hear of the violent actions there. It pains me even more to think of those who are trying to live law-abiding lives to be put in danger!!!

    God's Spirit will direct you, Irene. We were in an African Country where all the Missionaries evacuated, traveling with our Son. We were scheduled for three weeks in country away from the violence and had no incidents. Our Classes went well. We had contact by radio and the Missionary in charge encouraged us to leave. But we didn't want to cancel Classes. Many had walked 20 miles to learn and we didn't want to disappoint them.

But you know the situation your are facing and you know the people. So base your decision after much prayer and I know you will get it right! Hugs, Jane

    This is yet ANOTHER reason why I strongly advocate vacationing in one's home country.....I've never traveled outside the USA and have ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE to do so (he-double toothpicks, I've never even set foot near any type of airplane or airport)!

    Irene, I don't where you were going in Mexico or where the shoot out was.
All I can say is that where I am in Mexico it is very safe - much safer than in most places in the US.
Border town are notorious for violence, drug related gangs etc.

It really bugs me how the violence is blown out of proportion up north and the media and State Dept. telling us that Mexico is not safe.
I'd rather be here than in any major US city - much safer here.

We all make decisions based on what we know and what we feel is best for us. If there was violence in the place you were traveling through or to, you made the right decision for you.

  My parents are just returning from the winter in Texas, where they go in with a Missionary into Mexico they went right up until they left on Monday. They had went on Friday, and they didn't seem to be having any trouble. But i am glad they are coming home and are not going into Mexico again for right now.

Most crime happens in the dark and maybe day light is the safest time for travel.

    Sounds like you really need to stay here where you are safe.

It amazes me what people do to each other. My dad bought some property in New Mexico but he finally had to leave because there were two families down there that he said were like a modern day Hatfield's and Mccoy's. He was friends with both families, but they told him that he had to choose or they would kill him too. That was maybe 15 years ago. Some people are just nuts!

Just to let everyone know I am home and had a wonderful trip and the grilled sea food was divine. I have wonderful friends in Corpus and love the city.
Sorry I have a long list of e-mails that I couldn't get to.
Since I just got home a little bit ago and am tired I think I will take a nap then have to hunt for tires as they keep losing air. I did make it there and back ok though.
God bless you all and I hope I didn't gain anything. I will find out Thursday but then I have three days to eat good.

    I'm glad you are home. I was concerned because I knew you went somewhere but wasn't sure if it was in the States or not. CNN on TV says that it's not safe for Americans to be South of the border right now. That was top news today.

Well, I am packed and ready to go. I will be where they have my favorite food. SEA FOOD. I do love it grilled though instead of all the breading i used to eat.
Since I don't exercise on Saturday or Sunday I won't miss out on that and may even get some walking in.
I hope to be able to log in Sunday as not to break my streak but won't be on the computer much. I wish you all a good week end.
Monday I should be back to my same o same o.
Just hope I don't gain any of those pounds back I lost. I know it is me and only me that puts the food in my mouth. No one force feeds me.

You will find I did not write this but copied and pasted it. I know all you ladies will get a laugh and the men also. PLEASE, PLEASE read to the end if you send it on or not.

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70+ birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was 'exciting...'

Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day......like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first.

The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such a simple and honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!

Maya Angelou said this:

    During WWII when we had buttons instead of elastic, the button on my mother's panties gave out. There she was with me in the middle of the main corner in town Her panties slid off and she kept right on walking straight and tall. The only reaction on her part was to squeeze my hand so hard that I could only think about the pain and not why she left her panties in the street.

I can still feel that squeeze. emoticon

On February 12 of 2007 I joined TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly) weighing 204and on November the 15th of 2007 I arrived to my KOPS status weighing 152. My lowest weight was 148.
Becoming the queen of our chapter and with a lot of trophies, ribbons, etc I said I will never put the weight back on again. Famous last words.
We had a couple of wonderful leaders then all of a sudden we had no leader at all. People began fighting among themselves. It was not the same. I was the weight recorder. Winter Texans would come in which were visitors and not members of our chapter and began shouting at me and my assistant telling us they didn't do it that way at their chapter. Can you imagine going to someone elses house and doing that. Hey I don't do it that way at my house. Then summer came and we had few members and they couldn't even agree on anything. They decided to have only one meeting a month. I told them that wouldn't work for me but I was outnumbered. Now with no leader, one meeting a month and much of the work falling on me and my assistant as the others were sick or had sick relatives the stress started to build up.
I kept telling them I was resigning and leaving TOPS. They kept talking me into staying. The stress was terrible. Finally they said wait until the winter Texans get back so I waited. When they got back I weighed the people in then said I'm leaving. They said oh wait. I said no I keep waiting and waiting and have told you for months I'm leaving and I walked out.
I had already exceeded my goal weight and put on a few more pounds. I kept thinking I would go to a town 20 miles away to see how their chapter was as I heard they had several upbeat members but it is always difficult to follow through that first month.
In the Meantime I continued to work with Spark, began to exercise, drank my water, ate my veggies and fruit but still did not lose and gained a couple more pounds.
On Spark I have met such wonderful nice supportive people and feel I will never want to leave Spark. You Rock Spark Guy and all who work with you as well as all of my friends. You are doing a great work helping us to take care of this Temple of the Lord so we can live longer more productive lives. In fact I have been asked to teach in a Bible School again. I have known this pastor since he was a young lad. I wrote a blog about the weird phone call explaining more about this.
Each month a group of Christian women meet and the leader I found out is an officer in the Donna TOPS CAN YOU IMAGINE???? I just love her. She is upbeat and so cool. Her grand daughter and I have become great friends and she has asked me to pray for her several times.
So tonight things are going to change. I am going to Donna TOPS and start over. Don't have as much to lose this time but know I need to lose it before I balloon again. You know how people are though. They keep telling me I look so good and am just at the right weight. I know I need to lose those few pounds to feel better.

    Irene, I always love your positive attitude! I'm sure you will bless the new TOPS group, and you have our (SP friends') permission to say NO to any new responsibilities! I think many of us identify with the continual struggle with those old habits of eating ... that may always be the case. But our God is bigger than our struggle! Praise Him for each victory!

    God bless you my friend. There are so many bumps along this road called Life and it seems we manage somehow to get over them. You are doing great and you will continue to do so!

No one ever told us it would be easy, only that we could do it!
I will be keeping up with your progress as I am one who is trying to get back to goal weight also. We can do it and we are worth it!

    I am so glad you finally got out of that TOXIC TOPS group and found another another where you feel comfortable.

Just remember to say "NO", if they want you to help with running the club; what they usually mean is= do all the work for me/us.

After all, at some point we can play the "old lady" card and say, " I've paid my dues and it is someone else's turn"! emoticon emoticon emoticon

During the first week of July, 2001 I walked into the basement of a church looking for theTOPS club that I had found on the internet. It was a Thursday morning. There was a lady in the hallway who asked if she could help me. I told her that I was looking for the TOPS club. She told me that I had indeed found the TOPS club! She introduced me around and explained a bit about what was going on. She told me that this was a "free" day and that I didn't have to weigh in until I decided to join. I told her that I had come to TOPS to join!

I attended that TOPS club during 2001-02 for 12 months, 2004 for 6 months, 2007 for six months and 2009 for another 6 months. Because it is a morning TOPS and has been around for MANY years, it has mostly retired folks in it. At age 60, I am one of the youngest. I love TOPS! Each time I return from Africa I rejoin TOPS again, the same club. These people ( I can't say ladies because we have one man in the club) are very special to me. They come from many different backgrounds. I have been their speaker quite a number of times. Each time I return to Africa they take up a collection for me to use here at the Hospital. Thursday morning is one of the highlights of my week!

Now you say, does going to TOPS help me from gaining weight in the States. No, I'm afraid it doesn't. BUT I don't even want to imagine how much I would gain by NOT going to TOPS during my six months home. I need that accountability.
