SPARK FRIENDS ARE THE BEST

Monday, December 03, 2012

emoticon for all of your kindness. I believe it hurt worse when my brother was sick and before he died as I could hear him go down and down.
I'm so thrilled he accepted the Lord. He was the last one of my family into the fold. I have one remaining brother and he was the first person I ever won to the Lord. All the rest have died and waiting for us.

I am going to have a stress test the 16th of January to see if my cardiologist thinks I would be safe to have knee replacements. I sure need them as I have a fear of falling. Both knees bend in.

I am way behind so hope you read this blog. I finally did acknowledge all of the goodies but behind on e-mails.

I still need work done on my computer.

So lots going on. Seems I have doctor's appointments a lot. Today was the dentist, Tuesday the ear doctor, Wednesday the house cleaner, Hair fixed on Friday then week end preparing for church and church on Sunday. Busy, busy, busy.

God bless all of you.

Irene, you are so right that life is for the living and living means keeping busy with untold numbers of "things" that need to be done that the world considers important but really are not all that important for our eternal living quarters LOL.

I am so thankful you have your family waithing for you because that will be a time of happy reunions yes and amen.

All that we can do is what Holy Spirit has laid out for each of us to do with each new day. Just so long as we keep following His leading then we will be in His perfected will for us. And being in His perfected will is the important way to live life on this earth.

You are deeply loved by heaven above. emoticon

God has a knack of using people for just such purpose during difficult times. While as Christians, we celebrate the life our families have in eternity, we still mourn the loss felt by their absence.

May the doctor give you the information needed to made wonderfully informed choices. The transition from two legs, three legs (cane), then four-six legs (walker) are major milestones that take their own toll on the psyche. May God give you that special peace (Shalom) that gives you great comfort.

Irene, I'm so glad your brother accepted the Lord before he passed away and you can rest a bit easier knowing that he did. Yes, the hardest part is when we know our loved ones are going downhill and we have to see/hear them suffer. That happened to my sister who passed away in April and as the saying goes 'we were glad her suffering ended'.

You do keep so busy my friend and right now I think that's a good thing. Doctor appts take up a lot of time and with the stress test coming up in January, I hope you'll get the nod to have knee replacements done. That would take care of one health problem!

Take care of YOU, do what's best for YOU and get some rest and good sleeps.
Love you,
Gloria

Irene, I know what you mean, it is hard seeing, and hearing a loved one go down hill. I keep you in my daily prayers. You are always so supportive and dedicated to all of us.
I worked the church food bank this morning, got my Christmas cards addressed this afternoon, tomorrow I get hair done, Wed. a Friend's Son is bringing her in to see me. She don't drive and he does this every year at Christmas. I always bake him double chocolate brownies with a lot of nuts for doing that. We exchange our little gifts, have tea and dessert and chat. He used to go outside with Brooks and sit and talk, and he is going to miss him a lot. Yes, time flies, and I pray that if you need and want the knee surgery that your heart is in good enough condition.

Hugs and prayers

MY BROTHER PASSED AWAY

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Just a short blog entry to say my brother passed away yesterday.

I just found out about it today as his wife's niece was so busy and she e-mailed me but had written down the wrong e-mail address. I sent her an e-mail so she could write me what she had sent.

Then I called my only living brother and my niece and we will see if we send flowers or what they want us to send.

Sorry this had to be a sad post but he said he was ready to meet the Lord.
The last words he said to me were on Sunday and he said "I love you too Irene".

I will always treasure that.

Irene

MY BROTHER AND SMOKING

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

My brother is on hospice now and has round the clock care. He is so weak he can't hold the phone to talk so the nurse held the phone to his ear and I talked to him, prayed for him and told him I loved him. He said "I love you too Irene. I didn't understand what he said but the nurse told me what he said. She is so sweet and I bragged on her care of him.

I have had some real difficult days but believe Sunday was the worse.

Monty, a good friend from Spark, suddenly fell ill awhile back and he went fast also. He later confessed to all of his friends on Spark that he smoked and it destroyed him.

My brother quit smoking five years ago but he said it still affected him.

No I am not preaching but want to beg you that if you do smoke, please quit.
I lost a sister from smoking also. She had a heart attack and then had cancer which spread all over. When I was very young many years ago it was the in thing to do and if you didn't smoke you were called chicken. I am glad God delivered me from it over 50 years ago.

SO PLEASE, PLEASE IF YOU SMOKE STOP. That would be a part of your healthy life style.

With love and caring.

Irene

I am so sorry you have to go through this.

You are so right. Smoking does SO much damage to the body; damage that we aren't even aware of. It just destroys healthy cells and eats away at joints. I, too, lost my wonderful Dad to lung cancer (COPD and pnuemonia ultimately killed him). It's a horrible death to suffer. I've heard people my age (50s) say "well I'm going to die of something anyway, why not lung cancer?" like it's a joke. If you've watched someone go through the death process due to lung cancer you'd stop smoking, I'm sure.

TODAY'S CHOICES EFFECTs TOMORROWS HEALTH - I can't say it enough. Thank you for the loving and caring reminder. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this hard time of loss. Pat

I have never smoked, but my hubby smoked for many years. He is in the process of quitting now. He used to smoke a pack a day, but now he's only smoking a couple of cigarettes a day. Its progress. Hopefully it won't be much longer before he is completely free of that addiction. I'm proud of him for trying. We all know that bad habits are hard to break.

Smoking can lead to devastating consequences, but it is a very hard habit to break, much like eating for the people who do it. I watched my dad try to quit for years, 3 or 4 times, only to start again; but finally he conquered it!! He had smoke since he was in his teens and he was probably in his 70's when he finally quit.

Probably all of us have seen how controlling the power of smoking is in being a habit. My daughter's former father-in-law had severe emphysema yet repeatedly removed his oxygen for a cigarette!! Our son-in-law gave up smoking when he had emergency bypass surgery when he was in his early 40s. His Dad died in his 40s as he was packing for a vacation.

Lung cancer seems to develope quickly. Even the lung cancer not associated with smoking. We have lost several friends in recent months who did not have the smoking factor personally or in their surroundings. I do often ponder how "the Poor" can afford to support this vice!!

I'm glad too that I never ever tried smoking. My parents did not smoke nor did my grandparents. That probably helped keep me from it. My brother smoked but I'm not sure if he does now. I know his wife still does.

    Irene,
I lost my mother to lung cancer as well at 59 yrs. old. I quit smoking myself about 6 years ago a year after she passed. I am still devastated by her loss, there is not a day that goes by that I don't miss her terribly, she was my best friend. I understand the pain your going through and I am sending many hugs and prayers to you and your brother at this difficult time.
Cancer is a terrible thing that takes so many from us far too often.

Much love,
Penny

Praying for you, Irene and your dear brother.

Hubby smokes and I see it taking a toll on him, but the drinking at the time was worse and he did stop when he had his traumatic brain injury.....that was because he was drinking.
I am grateful, that that has stopped, but doubt that the other will ever happen.

I also have a son, that smokes. He works in a smoking environment, making cigarette manufacturing machines! He mainly smokes when he is there, surrounded, by others smoking. Ugh. I pray for him. I do believe there is hope.

Hospice nurses are true angels. He is blessed to have such a good one and blessed to have you. emoticon

Irene, I commented on our chat line on our team about not seeing you last night. I thought perhaps it was because of your brother.
I, too, lost my best life long friend due to her smoking. She had lung cancer which then spread to her bones and she lasted just one month after having been diagnosed with it. We had all tried to get her to stop smoking to no avail. A person has to want to stop themselves, it is a choice to smoke or not.
I'm glad your brother is getting such good care in his last days and I pray for a peaceful passing for him.

Sending a comfort hug to you Irene. I lost my Mom to lung cancer in 96 & my Dad to final heart attack in '86. Watching them suffer was hard. I will never smoke although I grew up with it in our home. My Mom told me in her last days, 'Don't you ever blame God for me being terminal - I chose to smoke'! She accepted responsibility for smoking & it was the thing to do back in the 50's & 60's. :(

UPDATE ON MY BROTHER

Monday, November 12, 2012

Thank all of you for your prayers and words of kindness about my brother which I wrote in my last blog "Desperate prayer request".

My brother called last night. He had to go to the hospital again and have 2 more quarts of liquid drained off of him. They gave him his report of his MRI and he found out he has stage 4 cancer. Very sad. He said he can't take care of his wife and he is going to try to get her in an assisted living. I hope she doesn't get kicked out as she did in the nursing home. They kept her less than one day as she was trying to get out and was hurting them and herself. It is so sad. He did pray with me though for salvation. He was the last one to receive the Lord of my family.

Also I have been MIA as my computer was not working. My friend came today and was able to hook my monitor and my wireless keyboard to my laptop as I don't like the laptop. Neither of them had been working right for several days.

I missed out on a lot of points but that is the least of my concerns right now.
I may have to buy a new PC or stay with two computers hooked up as without the laptop the PC won't work.

God bless all of you who prayed and have been so kind.
Irene

I'm sorry, Irene. You're in my prayers. I don't know how they can kick someone out who cannot help her condition. That is not right. The public school systems have to work with all conditions whether we have the resources and expertise, I would think trained health professionals could figure it out too.

Irene my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know this must be difficult but am glad you prayed for his salvation. I pray he will have some support there to help him with his wife. There are DHS service people in most states that can help him with this. They are dept. of human service people. I know where we are transitioning my dad to assisted living that there is elder service people that are helping us with paper work and other questions. They are very helpful. I dont know what he has for help or resources but the senior service people can help him with this and take some pressure of himself. Prayers are with you friend and your family

Irene, I am praying for your brother that he will have peace as he prepares to enter eternal life. And I am also praying that they will find a place for his wife where she can be cared for.

When my dad was in his last months with congestive heart failure and his wife with beginnings of Alzeimers, we were able to get them both in a wonderful assisted living that worked with hospice, and they were both lovingly cared for until they died. (My dad went first, and his wife three month later - I think she didn't want to go on without him).

I can't remember the name of the organization that helped us find financial resources, I'll try to look for the name, and if I find it, I'll let you know.

Blessings and hugs.

Irene, I am so sorry about your brother and his wife.

Certainly there is someone that can help place her in the right caring place.
Could Hospice help? They are not just for end of life, as I once thought.

There are many places, in Va. though it is difficult to find a good one.
Also, there are people that can come into the home, or into a nursing home that are trained to deal with Alzheimer's.
A caregiver, with extra skills, so to say.

I will pray that this situation will be resolved lickety-split, so that your brother has relief from this worry.

Yes, Stage 4 is not the best news, but I know a few people that are still alive and relatively well, years after the diagnosis.
My prayers on this as well.

How about you, Irene. Sleeping? Getting your water in?
Take care of you! emoticon

DESPERATE PRAYER REQUEST

PRAYER REQUEST

I have two brothers left. We were 7 siblings and all the youngest are gone, the three oldest remain of which I am the oldest.
Some time ago the doctor found a mass on my brother's pancreas but his wife has alzheimers and he took care of her instead of himself. He tried to put her in a nursing home but they had no lock up for the Alzheimer's patients so she fought them to get out and hurt them and herself also. They kept her less than a day. In the town they live in they do not have a nursing home with an alzheimers unit. They live in California.

He got down to 137 at almost 6 foot tall. One day her caregiver which came in only to take her vitals, etc. noticed he wasn't well and got him to the hospital fast. He was in the hospital 5 days and they did an MRI. They found two tumors on his lungs and he can hardly breathe. He has copd. Now he weighs 118 and said looks like one of the starving people of Africa. When I called last night he said he was better but his wife worse. He said she doesn't realize he could go at any time.
He is 1 1/2 years younger than I.
It is such a desperate situation since he has to care for her and I know how that is. They have no children just as I have no children

He is on oxygen of course.

Anyone who prays please pray for him.

Irene, so sorry to hear this, and he will be in my prayers, and her also, and of course you. Being away from family is hard when there is sickness. Hugs and prayers

I am praying for your brother, Irene! I pray that God will also comfort you as I know it is difficult for you to hear of his condition and that of his wife. But God is able to touch him and make him whole as well as his wife.

Father, I bring Irene's brother before you tonight! I ask You, Father, to touch His body with Your healing power and cause those tumors to shrivel up and die at the roots and be gone, In Jesus' Name! Father, I ask that You would also restore his wife to good health. You are the giver of life; the Healer and I know You took stripes upon Your back, Lord Jesus, that Irene's brother and sister-in-law might have healing in their bodies. So, I pray that You will do that, Father. I pray also for Irene that You would comfort her and grant her peace in her heart knowing that You are working in their lives. Thank You, Father. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
