PERSONAL CONSEQENCES OF BEING DEHYDRATED

Saturday, October 13, 2012

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon AND READ.

First of all I would like to ask you to read some of the comments on my recent blog about water consumption, especially HAPPYMOM8 There are many more she could have listed but this is enough to wake any of us up.

NOW TO THE PERSONAL CONSEQUENCES OF BEING DEHYDRATED
one time in Mexico I dehydrated. I was in a hotel and when they saw me they took me to the hospital where they gave me an IV.
It is no fun.
Another night I was to preach in Mexico and all of a sudden every thing was going black. I had to quit, they took me to the pastor's house, put me in front of a fan as it was very hot and gave me something to drink and I came out of it.
Recently the doctor put me on a powerful diuretic and did not add anymore potassium.
I no longer could talk clearly. I could not type on the computer and all I wanted to do was sleep. My friend from our church who also has a home health service said to himself she is not right.
Something is wrong. He called the doctor's office and said he was worried about me. The doctor was shocked. My friend went with me and did the talking. He is my power of attorney.
The doctor lowered the diuretic, doubled the potassium and put me on Gatorade as my electrolytes were depleting. After a couple of days and plenty of water I was back to normal.
I thank God and the angel He sent as I thought I was either going to die or was going crazy.
Dehydration is nothing to fool with.
Please don't think I am pushing you but I do care about people and ask you to
PLEASE DRINK YOUR WATER.

Not too long ago, about a month, I got so dehydrated I was weak and dizzy, almost the same as being extremely anemic. which I was worried that that is what it was as it has happened before. Luckily (depending on how you look at it)I was dehydrated and was able to take care of it.

WHAT MY DOCTOR SAID ABOUT WATER CONSUMPTION

Friday, October 12, 2012

emoticon
Someone mentioned I might be drinking too much water. I asked my doctor. He said I should drink plenty of water so I didn't dehydrate again.

My home health care nurse told me the same thing.

I told them I drink emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
or more a day. They said that is fine.

If you are active you are to drink more water.

I sure do not want to dehydrate again and become a zombie.

On the teams I belong to I have a topic on "did you drink your 8 glasses of water today" Very few people post and some teams don't post at all. Then I see they are battling with water intake.

A SUGGESTION: one team I belong to chooses their own streak, something they battle with like I chose desserts and finished my 100 days today. They don't tempt me any more. Maybe you who battle with water can do a streak on water consumption.

I love drinking my water! I used to be addicted to soda pop (Diet Coke especially) but I gave it up completely in 2005 and don't miss it at all. Now all I drink is water, except for some soy milk in my cereal, and the occasional mug of hot tea.

Cheers!

What a great subject. I have drunk at least 8 glasses of water per day for years (ever since I joined WW when my 25 yo ds was a baby). However, last year at a WW meeting (at least as my memory serves me), I was told that we could count coffee & other beverages in the total. So I started counting them in the 8. I usually only have 2 cups of coffee a day and 1 glass of iced tea. But I have noticed a feeling of dehydration. I'm going to go back to my previous way of counting the glasses.

emoticon , first off, for your 100 days!!! Wonderful.

As for the water, I do great, during the warm months, but do find it to be more difficult, as the weather gets colder.

I will take the challenge to keep it going year, round.

I am grumpy, wrinkled and tired when I do not get enough water,
Nothing good comes from this, so going to grab some water after I post this.

Thank you, for the reminder!

One doctor I heard this week said the color of our pee should really be closer to the color of water . . . for me, that's drinking about a gallon of water a day. I drink relatively slow and steady for the most part and remain active, so I'm not concerned about this being too much.

I'm sure you're not drinking 'too much water'. You seem very self-aware with your health. I agree with Blue42 down - most people I've come across in reaching my goal that feel the need to correct my exercise routine or the food choices I make (the know it all types) are, in my humble opinion, not doing the basics to see that their own health is good. Keep going on the way you're going on emoticon You know your body better than anyone else.

    emoticon on your water consumption.

The point at which "too much water" becomes a major concern isn't normally with the number of glasses we drink throughout a normal day - it's with drinking a lot all at once. (We can safely drink 12-16 glasses a day when they're spread out, especially if we're active and passing water out as well.)

I do find it highly amusing when the person saying this about water has no qualms about drinking soda or coffee in absurd volumes.

OUR EXAMPLE PAVES THE WAY

90 Days without desserts for me. Yes, I eat fruit which is one question all ask.
My days were posted to Face book each day and one day when I had almost finished the month my pastor told the men's study group "if she can do it I can."

So my pastor started a streak of no desserts. He has passed two months now.
He told me he did not realize how much dessert he ate.

Then he starts preaching on nutrition to the congregation and comparing it to spiritual food. He said one little cookie has so many calories and fat. I didn't realize that.

He lost weight and his clothes started bagging and he was walking on his pants as they were getting longer as they got looser. I told him he needed to find a good tailor and sure enough he did and he looks so neat.

You also ask me if I lost weight. I am at my goal weight and am not doing it to lose weight but because I was so addicted to sweets I could not stop once I started and I knew if I kept on I would gain my weight back and it would be detrimental to my health.

Then he started speaking of junk food. I don't know if anyone is following the streak or not except one friend, member of the church, popped up on Face book and said "Day 1 without desserts"

So remember we are examples to so many people.

What is your weakness? Make a streak out of it. emoticon

For me, I try not to deny myself any one category of food as that creates problems of its own . . . I have worked in a little frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream within my calorie range for many years. John had me check with my doctor to see if there might be a recommendation not to eat grapefruit (I'm on a minimum dose of a beta blocker) -- I know had I been told to eliminate grapefruit, I would have craved grapefruit, when in fact, I typically only eat grapefruit in very small spurts perhaps part of only one month a year.

My SONday

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Just a few days ago I emoticon and told my friend I could not teach my Sunday School class and didn't know anyone who would want it.

He told me to wait four days and after having my diuretic lowered and drinking Gatorade to replenish the electrolytes which the lack of was causing my body to shut down I was much better. I was not up to par yet though. Just kind of emoticon instead of my regular emoticon

So I went to church and was there four hours. When I try to make my way to the door people are standing in the aisle waiting to talk to me which gets me off and I lose my balance.

A lady was waiting for me in the aisle. She told me her name and introduced me to her whole beautiful family, husband, daughters, grandchildren, etc and of course I had to make over all of them.

The emoticon thing was this. She said seven years ago she had asked me to pray for her in church for breast cancer and that God healed her. Now God just let me be a emoticon part of it as He is the healer. She wanted to thank me. It makes you feel good to hear things like that. Now remember I am still weak and a little off kilter so when I finally got through I kept on the aisle and as I turned around almost fell. I don't know if they grabbed me or I grabbed a chair but I did not go to the floor. I did end up with a scrape on my arm.

A friend came this afternoon and brought a shower mat I needed to replace one which had turned moldy and the cleaning girl couldn't get it off. I asked her how much it was and she said it was a blessing and she is needy herself. Pray for my friend who needs a job.

Yesterday I went with a girlfriend to a restaurant close by where I didn't have to walk much. A man came up with his wife and said he wouldn't come back as he lived in a town about 40 miles away. He had spent 10:00 for a 20.00 coupon which paid for both of our lunches.

I may be going through it and didn't think I would make it last week but God is still looking out for me and more angels are popping up to bless me.

He never leaves us or forsakes us and when He does take me home I will still be with Him.

Once again, I thank all of you for the goodies, comments on my blog, your prayers, etc. This is a continuation of my other blog of what happened to me as I was passing into eternity. God sent an angel to get me the help I needed. For you who live alone I would like to say God never leaves you or forsakes you. Just let Him bless you. I needed to quit being so independent and humble myself before him and others and let them help me. My life has been spent helping others and still is as much as I can and you cannot give more than you receive.

God bless all of you my friends,

Irene

emoticon for sharing this. I needed to hear and be reminded of the points you made. God is there all the time. It is so hard to let others do what you have always done and be happy to receive the things they want to give you or do for you. We have to stop being so independent and "lean " on others a little. When all your life you have been the one others "leaned" or depended on, it is hard to reverse the roles. God will continue to bless you with others until he is ready to take you home. Your sister in Christ

That is so true that God sends us angels when we need them most, I was sent a host of angels through sparks people. I know without your love and encouragement I would not have been here to write this.God does not forsake yet, sometimes it is hard to humble ourselves and ask for help, for me that is the hardest thing, but when I do, God always has a way of me being able to help that person in return, in ways I could never imagine.

Irene, so true, "we are never alone", we just need to be reminded, and what better way than reading our Bibles. I am so glad that you are realizing that there is a time when we all need to slow down, it is hard for us that have always been doers. I love to do what I can with what skills I have, as I seem to have more skills than money. :)

Have a great week, take care of Irene as we do so much enjoy your support, and we are here to support you also.

God Bless

TRYING TO TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO ME

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Because so many asked about me I will tell you.

First of all my feet and ankles which are always swollen just wouldn't go down. The doctor increased my diuretics.

Then I had to sleep all of the time. I got to where I could not talk straight, didn't make sense and couldn't type right.

Finally my friend here called and got me in early as he was really worried about me. He has a home health service and knew I was in danger. The doctor was gone much of this time.

He went with me and sat with me all afternoon in the doctor's office and a g/f drove me and waited all of this time also.

I found out that the diuretics had depleted my electrolytes. He also found out I had a UTI.

He assigned home health for me and chose my friend for which I am glad. He is my 2nd POA

I started taking Gatorade which was restoring the electrolytes. They said I would be good as new in four days, then with the UTI I had to take antibiotics right away. It was bad.

Last night I didn't sleep so my niece saw me on f/b and thought I was up so called. I hadn't gotten to sleep yet. She is my 1st POA. I hadn't gotten to sleep yet but noticed I could talk better and made sense. Then my friend Marcy called when I did go to sleep so I had a total of 1 hours of sleep last night then about 4 hours in the afternoon.

That is why you might of felt I ignored you but when a wrote a small note for the doctor it took me ages.

I thank God first of all and then for your prayers and especially those who took care of me here and didn't let me die. I couldn't think for myself so my friend took over.

Irene: You've been through so much, and I am so sad for you. Some things never let up it seems and we get very tired. You just kept trying to post even tho you felt so bad.
Thank goodness you had a friend there who was able to step in and see that you got the right kind of help. Please take it easy and ease back into life. Praying for the pain to go away. I have knee pain etc too and it isn't fun.

Hugs always,
Char

emoticon Hi, Irene. I have really been out of touch with SP due to so much work with the math books, but tonight I decided to take a few minutes before I go to bed to try to touch base with a few friends, and I happened on the news that you have been so sick. I am so sorry, my friend, that you have been having such a hard time. But thank God for your friends and family who were there for you!!

I am praying you feel lots better real soon! Try to get a lot of rest these days!

I'm glad you're better. i read where often people are diagnosed with alzheimers and it is a UTI that caused similar symptoms. That is really scary when you think about it.

Irene, what you are describing happened to my mum too when the doctor prescribed too higher dose of diuretic. For her it almost depleted her sodium levels and she was so close to death when my sister found her and got an ambulance for her.
Praying you make a full recovery very soon.
