Today it was my privilege to attend a ladies meeting at a church close to my home. We had a wonderful time and saw people we hadn't seen in a while but two people who I hadn't seen in a few years completely ignored me.
I approached them to find out how they were and how things were going for them. They were polite but acted like they didn't know me. They didn't! I was a lot lighter, more fit, a new hair style, etc. After I told them where I knew them and who I was they remembered. One told me "but you are so much lighter, are you well?" I said, Never felt better and took the weight off because I wanted to and am going to the gym now also for about an hour every day I possibly can.
One was embarrassed to tell me she didn't know me but told my girl friend how good I looked and how much smaller I was.
It does make it worth while. Every day the Lord does something good for me to let me know I have to keep on keeping on. I can't keep going back up or will be where I was before.
I will not let that happen. I won't, I won't, I won't.

    Hi Irene:
Thank you so much for sharing that wonderful blog with us.
To think they didn't know you, was just the best Christmas present anyone could get, don't you think?
I remember when my mom lost over 100#... she and my dad were out somewhere and the story got around that dad was with another woman. We got a lot of laughs out of that. Mom was so proud!
You be proud too. You worked so hard for that. You are such an inspiration to all the rest of us, and not just because you've lost weight.
Love you!

I have lost 70+ pounds and all my friends keep taking double-takes. It is a lot of fun. I still have 60+ pounds to go, but everyone is really noticing the transformation. There is no better motivation to keep up the healthy choices than seeing the reaction of someone I haven't seen in six months when we run into each other. Congratulations and God Bless You!

Glory! Irene. It is the utmost compliment! My last visit to my doctor, he asked me if I was losing weight on purpose? When I told him yes, he said was I sure! O.k. I can live with that, but not going to get back there, no matter what disillusions are presented. That 50 lbs is somewhere, but it's not coming back on me!

Happiness is knowing you did the hard work to get there! God bless.

God never quits speaking to us. It is amazing the way God works to bring about His purpose and to use us to minister to others. Recently I needed to contact my bank and although I tried several times the answering machine answered me. You know how that goes.
Well, I decided to go to the bank in person and a very delightful young woman helped me. We somehow began talking about the Lord and people are always curious about what I do. I am more than pleased to oblige.
She said that recently another missionary came in and that God had taken care of her for a few years while on the field. What an opening. I asked if she had time to hear about how God had taken care of me and she did. She listened eagerly as I spoke. When I finished she said "God wanted you to come in today". I believe he had the timing right also as if I had gone earlier I might have had someone else to wait on me.
She had been worried about her own future. Just a day or two before another minister had come in and left. Then he sent her an e-mail telling her God wanted him to tell her that He would meet her needs, to just trust in Him.
It is truly wonderful how God speaks to us. It can be about weight loss or other problems but He speaks.
We are not worthy but He is. I am glad for Christmas as we are celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour, the one who speaks to us through the Holy Spirit.
God bless you and may this Christmas be a wondrous one.

God's plan is always on time.. I know that's why I'm here at this moment, and getting another blessing from reading about your trip to the bank..

We receive so many blessings along our journey. Sometimes we never really notice, not until someone points it out to us..

God is so awesome and does such miraculous things in our lives.

Wonderful and inspiring blog!!!

This is a definite advantage the follower of Christ has. When we stay tuned to His voice, we can always be certain He led us to speak out for Him. I once heard that God really didn't need us to do His work, but it is a privilege He has offered to us in sharing the blessing and excitement.

Very well said Irene. It is not that he does not speak to us it is that we do not listen. Maybe it is pride or just not in tune with the Holy Spirit. If we listen and pay attention to him God will guide us in the way he would have us go.

When God Speaks

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Being in full time ministry for over fifty years, I have learned a lot of things. One of them was when God told me if I would trust Him He would meet all of my needs and emphasized I should not trust in man as they would disappoint me.
He has to remind me of this from time to time. The last time was Saturday. I was driving down the highway and remembered how many of the mission supporters had discontinued. Over the years some pastors died, some churches closed and then the economy didn't help any. I had looked at my books and saw how much it really had fallen off.
My thoughts turned to how could I save money. I thought of one thing and then another, then decided to stop at a restaurant where they know me as I have been going there since they opened.
Having a coupon for a free appetizer I decided to get that and a bowl of tomato basil soup. (Does anyone know how many calories are in it?) I have tried to find out but with no luck.
I ordered my meal, ate half and pushed it aside as I always take half home for supper. The manager came up and sat with me and asked me if it was too hot (with chile) for me. I said no that I ate more hot stuff than the Mexicans do. Then he wanted to know how come. I told him I had lived in Mexico for 20 years. Now his curiosity was aroused and he wanted to know what I did so I told him. Now he wanted to know what I do now. When I told him I go to Reynosa and was to preach the 4th anniversary of the church I had built there the following Monday he was amazed. He said, "I won't even go there". Well, I also had a card that when I had six initials on it I got a free meal. He finished my card out and said your next meal is free.
Then I waited and waited for my check and it didn't come. Finally I caught someone's eye and they brought me the check and it said 000. It is taken care of.
What a time for this to happen! Right when I was worrying about finances. God has taken care of me for over 50 years and surely he can do it for 20 more. emoticonMy mother lived to 99 1/2 and I expect to make it to 100.
God told me didn't I tell you I would take care of you? So why are you worrying.
I went home rejoicing. God is so good.

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, SHALL MEN GIVE INTO YOUR BOSOM. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

You've served and given and HE never lies. He said "men" would give into your bosom, and I guess that includes restaurant folks too.

Regarding the soup - if it is home-made the calorie range could be huge! I would check next time to see if it is, and just get an idea of what is in it (apart from the tomato and basil of course:-) That will at least give you an idea as to calories.

You are doing an awesome job:-)

One of my precious former students will soon be here. For a few years I taught at a Missionary training School for those who desired to be missionaries and she was one of them. She worked extensively in Old Mexico then had health issues which kept her off the field for a time. After that she went to Africa. Now she is back in my area and is coming over and we will have lunch together.
Another former student of the same school and friend of both of us is ill today. She has had a real battle in her body also. She definitely has the ministry of helps and drives for me when I go to Mexico and helps other missionaries. She is such a blessing to so many. I wish all of my students would be working like those. Some more are of course.
When I first received the Lord as my Saviour I knew i was to be a missionary and thought I had to go overseas to do so but found out the water doesn't make you a missionary. Every time a missionary came to my church I would tell my wonderful wise pastor I wanted to go with them. It didn't matter where, I wanted to go. He would pat me on the shoulder and tell me it is not time yet. I would be a little angry with him.
All of the time I didn't realize I was already a missionary. I pastored some rescue missions in the city I lived in, helped start childrens works back when there was nothing but Sunday School for them, then went into full time. I quit my job, burned my bridges behind me, sold my furniture, gave up my apartment, put everything I had left in my old car and took off. My pastor wanted to know where i was going. How did I know? I knew God said to go and I went. I had never been out of my home state. I took off to some friends house and we went to a convention, then I went to another one alone, found a lady who offered me her home for in between meetings. I had my own special room. This was in Oklahoma. For 1 1/2 years I evangelized very small churches living by faith and I mean faith, for three years I pastored a split church and continued living by faith and again I emphacize real faith . See all of the missionary training I was going through. I was a missionary and didn't know it. Back then I was in my 20's. After pastoring for 3 years (and I could tell you so much more) God spoke to me to go to the Spanish speaking people. I told my pastor thinking he would say it wasn't time yet but this time he said, THAT'S GOD, and he recommended a missionary in south Texas on the Mexican border.
I worked there for 3 years, learning the language and helping in the missions and the Christian school they had, then went into the country of Mexico where I lived for 20 years.
After some personal problems I returned to the border where I continued teaching in Bible Schools, building churches, etc. So since 1984 I have been here. My latest project is the building of a two story church and a parsonage. The parsonage is not completed yet but is coming right along. The pastor is doing most of the work as he is a block layer.
I will be preaching the 4th anniversary of the church the 9th of November.
God bless all of you in your missionary endeavors.

Friday, October 30, 2009

Well as you know my birthday was a real surprise to me Sunday a.m. in my Sunday School class as we were going to celebrate the October birthdays and I took cards for the other 3 birthdays but no one said happy birthday or gave me a card or anything. I did receive a couple of phone calls on my birthday from S S class members wishing me a happy birthday and one was clear from Colombia as she had gone to visit her parents there. Oh well, I said it is better to give than to receive and if they didn't want to do anything in the class I would find my joy in giving to them as I have done for years of teaching now.

Then you knew I withdrew from TOPS as our chapter was a disaster and very stressful for me, the weight recorder, who tried to hold things together. I was determined after the 26th to eat right and lose the weight I had gained after becoming a KOP.
Well, the 27th and 28th I did real well but then a pot luck rolled around the 29th. As you know I was worried about the dressing and although I don't like turkey I decided I would eat it without the dressing and would have no dessert.
Surprise there was no dressing so did not have to worry about that.
Now another surprise. They were not just honoring their pastors on Pastor's appreciation but they also were honoring me on my birthday. Did I get a surprise. What my own Sunday School class did not do for me my friends church where I go to special occasions did.
Now, the real surprise, they brought in a huge Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake as they know I like ice cream. I had never tasted one and it was delicious. They tried to get me to take the left overs home but I would not do so. That is one thing I did right. LOL
Then they had a basket for me with cards and gifts. They were so nice and kind.
So today I am trying to get back on the wagon but seems it gets higher all the time. I did go to the gym and I am so happy I have more energy and can walk better now and don't have a fear of falling.
Thanks everyone. You have been super. So many goodies and kind words. You are good friends. May your weight continue to disappear.

Irene, so happy you were remembered in a special way! Yes, our birthdays are special no matter what age we are.

As far as the dressing goes at the pot luck, many of us tend to worry so much in advance, I think, I personally, have worried over things so much in advance, and wasted my time concentrating on it, I have wasted precious moments instead of enjoying life as it comes. I do believe that worrying, in addition to my job, caused my emotional/stress eating. I am trying to take one day at a time now and enjoy life more.

I'm happy you were finally able to taste the pleasure of the ice cream cake, but did not take home the leftovers! You did good!

You are a special lady! God bless you and may you have many more special moments in life!

Hugs, Betty

So glad that you had such a nice birthday after all.Good job on resisting taking the leftover ice cream cake.

Am really sorry to hear you withdrew from TOPS but with things the way they were in your chapter,it was the best thing to do.You didn't need all that stress.

The pic was taken at a wedding in Mexico. The pastor's son got married recently and of course I had to go. Thanks for your comments on my blog.

Is that where the new photo with the beautiful flowers came from? A lovely photo, bye the way.

Those DQ cakes ARE very good! You did the best thing by not taking the leftovers home. A very smart choice! emoticon

Ice cream for your birthday doesn't seem like much of an indulgence. I'm glad so many people worked to be sure you were remembered. emoticon

Irene, I am so glad that your church friends made your day special. You deserve it. Ice Cream Cakes-well I try to forget about them, but it's hard to do! So make this a very good year and Sparks will keep you on track with your food and exercise. God bless you.     Oh Irene, I am so happy things turned out beautiful for you at the pot luck! You are blessed with good friends, good people around you.
And you did so well with the eating ~ I'm sure some ice cream cake did not hurt your diet. Isn't it a delicious cake?? Yummy!!

God bless you dear lady and may you enjoy many, many more happy years!
