NEWS LETTER AUGUST 2012

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Today I made a run to the bridge on the United States side to meet the pastorís son to transact business. He is leaving Saturday to go north and work and will be gone three weeks.

In our talk and prayer I learned they had a shoot out on the Mexican side of the bridge. This time it was at the new bridge straight down from me about six to eight miles. You never know where it is going down but they are filtering into the states also.

We need to pray for Mexico and for the United States concerning this.

They have been working hard in the church. Right now they are in Bible School and working really hard. They make their own materials, outfits, etc.

They also have outdoor services in the lot we bought a couple of times a month besides the indoor church services. God is moving by His spirit and I am so proud of the pastors.

Maria, the pastors wife and a preacher in her own right, is feeling well now. She had been ill but God has touched her.

Thank you for what you are doing there to help this work go forward.

Thank you for your prayers.

God bless you and make His face shine upon you.

Irene

DO WE NEED SUGAR AND BEING ACCOUNTABLE

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Several have told me I need to eat sugar for energy.
Do YOU think that is so?
THINK

There is sugar in fruit, there is sugar in canned goods, there is sugar in peanut butter. I can taste it more and more the longer I go without desserts.

My pastor told me something that could make us all think. He is on his 16th day w/o desserts I believe and he said he didn't realize how much sugar he did eat. He is a strong man and with God's help can do anything he wants to do.

He goes to the gym everyday at 6:00 a.m. or is it 5:00? Then an hour later is at church for prayer with some people.

He has lost weight and looks good. He actually lost most of this over time not just because he gave up desserts.

We should all be an example to others and should find someone to be accountable to. That is good on Spark as I am on a team or two that choose their own streaks and report day by day how they have done.
Let's be accountable.

This was my 41st day w/o dessert, My friend had 3 desserts, I had none and it didn't bother me at all.

No, we don't need to add sugar for energy. As has already been stated the carbs we eat take care of our body's need for glucose.

You're doing great on avoiding dessert. emoticon

We can become sugar-holics, the more we eat it the more we want it. Soon we need more and more to get the sweetness we want. I have even seen this when a person uses artificial sweeteners, soon they need more and more. emoticon

Irene, I think it is an extremely healthy thing to give up desserts entirely. You are right that there is already sugar in other things enough to "make sure you get some." I really think our bodies need sugar in the form of fruit rather than chocolate pudding! Keep up the great work and don't let ANYONE talk you out of it.

Several have told you wrong. You do not have to have sugar from desserts for energy. You are right about fruits having sugar and even to a lesser degree some vegetables. This natural sugar serves your body much better than refined white sugar.

In truth, your body does not need sugar for energy or even to survive. It really needs glucose, which it makes when the body breaks down carbohydrates. The white sugar is never needed but found in so many items.

(And even then I have to be careful not to use up too many of my calories there.)

So many sweet, tempting choices...

....sugar in bread, sugar in ketchup...the list goes on! Our energy should come from healthy foods, and exercising. A little sugar is OK, but was she saying you need sugar in desserts for energy? Um, I don't think so. You've done great, continue to run your own race! :)

I believe it is your choice and yours alone. You are doing very well and this makes you happy. Your body loves you for leaving the extra sugar alone and that is what matters.

You are setting a fine example of mind over matter-- you want to do this and you can.
Keep up the great streak Irene, we are behind you all the way.

I'M FEELING BETTER

Friday, August 10, 2012

emoticon emoticon emoticonI feel better today.
Had my blood work done today and was hungry afterwards.
I dreamed I overslept and was late for my appointment then the alarm went off.
Was naughty and ate an unhealthy breakfast.
Came home and got on Spark then took a nap.
Woke up and felt good.
Now I am washing. The first time I felt like doing something this week.
I have to fill out some papers, put them in a box with the blood sample and mail them UPS and and pay for the postage myself.
It was weird how they did it.
They had little dots and put little drops of blood on the little circles. I had never seen them like this before.
My finger bled and bled and is bruised.
I think the tiredness is over.
At least this will be my 37th day w/o dessert.
Irene

Hi Irene-I've heard of this type of blood test. I've done saliva tests that I had to do myself and then mail UPS. Though, I was given a pre paid sticker for mailing. The blood spot test is said to be just as reliable as the vials of blood. I had the mail in tests for adrenal function and hormone levels.

Glad you are feeling better and felt like doing some washing. Kudos on no dessert!!

Best Wishes to you Irene,

Audrey emoticon

So glad you are feeling better. In my 45 years of non stop blood tests, I have never heard of anything like what you describe. I would sure be interested in knowing what exactly they are testing for that takes so little blood! I am used to giving 3 to 5 vials of blood!! That is strange you had to pay this postage too -the labs usually have their own pick up and delivery drivers, they must be sending it out of state perhaps??
Very well done on going without dessert for that long? I am afraid I had pie and ice cream at the fair :P. I never eat dessert at home. Keep up the great work!!

MY PASTOR'S DETERMINATION

Monday, August 06, 2012

As I mentioned in a recent blog my pastor told me if I could do without sweets for 30 days he could too.

I think he has been at it about a week and last week two of his three children had birthdays the same day with cakes, etc.

I wondered how he would fare so this morning when he came in I said pastor, I want to ask you a question. He said I'm still all right. He had no desserts.

We are an example to more people than we realize.
Oh by the way I reached my goal of 30 days w/o dessert and now have finished 33.
