A DIFFERENT KIND OF SUNDAY

Monday, August 06, 2012

Well emoticonday I arrived at church early as usual as I teach the Spanish Sunday School class.
Everyone was sitting in the foyer. I asked what was going on. They told me the power was out as there had been an accident and the transformer wasn't working.
It was close to where I turn off the expressway to go to the church. Ours was the last one that could continue.
Chairs were taken out to the parking lot and we decided to have two or three short services. I was glad to be in the first service before it got too hot.

We had the worship services and the pastor read Psalms 34. Mighty passage. Then he mentioned me and I said do you want me to go up and tell it right now. Of course I was kidding. He said yes. I said I was kidding. He said no, come on up so I got to speak some also.
After the service we prayed for the people who wanted prayer then the second service started.

Afterwards I went out to eat with friends and had company in the afternoon and was privileged to pray for her.

So it was a real different Sunday. They are wondering where the hurricane Ernesto will arrive. It seems to be a bad one.

Another of my long stories.

Irene

Number Two "What our example does for others."

Monday, July 30, 2012

Today I received a real pleasant surprise. emoticon
My pastor had either read my blog from someplace or someone told him.

He e-mailed me today on f/b and said I had inspired him so much he is going to go 30 days without sweets also. Diabetes runs in his family, also his wife died from it and his three grown children have it. That, in itself should be a wake up call.

He e-mailed me tonight and said he got through the first day.

You never know who you touch with your example.

WHAT OUR EXAMPLE DOES FOR OTHERS

Sunday, July 29, 2012

As you know emoticonI decided to go on a thirty day no dessert
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
streak.

This is my 25th day. A neighbor of mine who also goes to the same church as I do is overweight and has knee problems. She has no computer so couldn't get onto Spark but I invited her to TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) which actually believes in a healthy life style as Spark does. She went and has lost 10 or more pounds now.

Well when she heard I was on a streak w/o desserts she said if you can do that I can do without sodas. That was her big temptation.

Some have asked me why I can't have a little dessert, including some on Spark. I said if I have one emoticonI don't stop. She has not had soda for about a week now; before she had it every day.

So let your emoticonshine. Don't say and not do; say and do. I'm not saying I will never have dessert again but to tell you the truth I don't want it.

Good for you!! This is a very big accomplishment. As of tomorrow I'm giving up artificial sweetener totally for 2 weeks.     You set a wonderful example Irene, you are a real 'doer'. I think I'll try that myself, only with something that is my weakness. Going a month without a certain food would certainly help 'tame the beast!'
Great that your friend is giving up her soda too, they are just empty calories . . . and as you said, we don't have to say NEVER, just ease up on something we really like but isn't good for us. Take it easy and enjoy it now and then.
Thank you Irene!

WHEW IT IS HOT HERE

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

It's been SO HOT in Southern Texas:
.....the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground.
.....the trees are whistling for the dogs.
.....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance
.....hot water comes from both taps.
.....you can make sun tea instantly.
.....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
.....the temperature drops below 90 F and you feel a little chilly.
.....you discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car (one on each hand).
.....you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
.....you actually burn your hand opening the car door.
.....you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 5:30 A.M.
.....your biggest motorcycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?
.....you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage.
.....the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.
.....the cows are giving evaporated milk.
....farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
Borrowed from Gloria with her permission

Your comment about it being cold in TX at 90 degrees. A few years ago my daughter & family moved back to Oregon from Corpus Christi - daughter about froze to death ALL summer - in our 80 and 90 degree weather (with NO humidity).

I might add that they have since moved back to TX, she didn't like it here after living there several years - and she was actually raised here! It's funny what we get used to.

TODAY THEY TRIED TO TEMPT ME

Monday, July 16, 2012

My friend who is from Colombia and had gone with her family to visit her family there returned last week.

She called and asked if I could eat candy and told her I had not had sweets for so many days.

She said well, I brought you some Colombia Candy.

I said ok I'll put it in my candy dish and let my visitors get fat. emoticon

She said if you have it in the candy dish you will eat it.

I said I will not. I have made up my mind.

Besides it being candy it is coffee flavored candy and I don't drink coffee either.

It was in a little purse made in Colombia. Cute !

So I am determined, I've made up my mind!
