Number Two "What our example does for others."

Monday, July 30, 2012

Today I received a real pleasant surprise. emoticon
My pastor had either read my blog from someplace or someone told him.

He e-mailed me today on f/b and said I had inspired him so much he is going to go 30 days without sweets also. Diabetes runs in his family, also his wife died from it and his three grown children have it. That, in itself should be a wake up call.

He e-mailed me tonight and said he got through the first day.

You never know who you touch with your example.

Irene

How true! I didn't tell many people at work about my effort to lose weight, but as my weight was dropping, I noticed several folks in the office starting their own paths to healthier lives. I can't honestly claim responsibility, but I'd like to think my quiet example helped motivate them.

WHAT OUR EXAMPLE DOES FOR OTHERS

Sunday, July 29, 2012

As you know emoticonI decided to go on a thirty day no dessert
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
streak.

This is my 25th day. A neighbor of mine who also goes to the same church as I do is overweight and has knee problems. She has no computer so couldn't get onto Spark but I invited her to TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) which actually believes in a healthy life style as Spark does. She went and has lost 10 or more pounds now.

Well when she heard I was on a streak w/o desserts she said if you can do that I can do without sodas. That was her big temptation.

Some have asked me why I can't have a little dessert, including some on Spark. I said if I have one emoticonI don't stop. She has not had soda for about a week now; before she had it every day.

So let your emoticonshine. Don't say and not do; say and do. I'm not saying I will never have dessert again but to tell you the truth I don't want it.

Good for you!! This is a very big accomplishment. As of tomorrow I'm giving up artificial sweetener totally for 2 weeks.     You set a wonderful example Irene, you are a real 'doer'. I think I'll try that myself, only with something that is my weakness. Going a month without a certain food would certainly help 'tame the beast!'
Great that your friend is giving up her soda too, they are just empty calories . . . and as you said, we don't have to say NEVER, just ease up on something we really like but isn't good for us. Take it easy and enjoy it now and then.
Thank you Irene!

WHEW IT IS HOT HERE

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

It's been SO HOT in Southern Texas:
.....the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground.
.....the trees are whistling for the dogs.
.....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance
.....hot water comes from both taps.
.....you can make sun tea instantly.
.....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
.....the temperature drops below 90 F and you feel a little chilly.
.....you discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car (one on each hand).
.....you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
.....you actually burn your hand opening the car door.
.....you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 5:30 A.M.
.....your biggest motorcycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?
.....you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage.
.....the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.
.....the cows are giving evaporated milk.
....farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.
Borrowed from Gloria with her permission

Your comment about it being cold in TX at 90 degrees. A few years ago my daughter & family moved back to Oregon from Corpus Christi - daughter about froze to death ALL summer - in our 80 and 90 degree weather (with NO humidity).

I might add that they have since moved back to TX, she didn't like it here after living there several years - and she was actually raised here! It's funny what we get used to.

TODAY THEY TRIED TO TEMPT ME

Monday, July 16, 2012

My friend who is from Colombia and had gone with her family to visit her family there returned last week.

She called and asked if I could eat candy and told her I had not had sweets for so many days.

She said well, I brought you some Colombia Candy.

I said ok I'll put it in my candy dish and let my visitors get fat. emoticon

She said if you have it in the candy dish you will eat it.

I said I will not. I have made up my mind.

Besides it being candy it is coffee flavored candy and I don't drink coffee either.

It was in a little purse made in Colombia. Cute !

So I am determined, I've made up my mind!

MY DOCTOR'S VISIT

Friday, July 13, 2012

Yesterday, the 12th of July, was doctor's day. I'm glad I'm not superstitious as today is Friday the 13th. This is the day the Lord has made, I will be glad and rejoice in it.

The doctor walked in and "said how are you" and I said mighty fine thank you.

I had lost 5 pounds since last visit, it was my 8th day without desserts, my blood pressure was perfect, all vitals fine, he asked if I was sleeping good and I said emoticonsometimes I sleep too much. He asked about all prior complaints and seemed I had none.

I told him I woke up in the morning, emoticongood sign, could still drive, had feet and could still walk but not as much, that my balance was better after the PT and I had not fallen.

emoticon

He drew blood though as I think they either have a vampire hidden or sell it to the blood bank. emoticon He did want to know that my potassium level was alright as I take what looks like a horse pill of it each day and also since I take a mega dose of Vitamin D checked that to see if I am getting too much.

I see him in 4 months.

I forgot to tell him I use a lot of Kleenex in the morning until my sinuses are cleared out though.

One thing I did tell him was I had dry ears, dry eyes, dry nose, dry skin, and said I'm just a dried up old woman. I said no I'm not, I'm a dried up young woman. He got a emoticonout of that.

Today I get my hair fixed so will feel even younger. After all I'm only 3 years into my third child hood. emoticon

Thanks for reading my rambling if you did.

Irene
