THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR: (Taken from our church bulletin)

TAXES because they mean I am employed.

CLOTHES THAT ARE TOO TIGHT mean I have plenty to eat (may I say too much?)

A PARKING SPACE WAY OUT because I can walk.

MY ELECTRIC BILL because I have lights and heat, etc.

TALL GRASS AND LEAKY FAUCETS because I have a home.

POLITICAL BICKERING because I have freedom of speech.

TOO MANY E-MAILS because my friends are thinking of me.

NOISY GRAND KIDS because I can hear.

HIGH GAS PRICES because I have a car to drive.

GROWING OLDER because heaven is in the near future.

TRIALS AND TROUBLES because God isn't through with me yet.

What are you thankful for?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I love this blog and also the many challenges that so many here are thankful for! YES! - for with God on our side, each event, either 'good' or 'bad', can be something to rejoice in!
Thanks to everyone here for setting a good example and reminding me to thank God for even the things that seem like problems in my life!
Here's one - I am losing my weight so slowly that it keeps me really engaged with SP every day!! Because I needed to lose weight and get fit again, I found this site and all my new SP friends in the first place!!!

I am thankful that my hubby has lost several jobs, since his accident, because that means that he had them in the first place, which means that the Doctor was wrong that he would never work again! Even brain surgeons make mistakes.

I am thankful that I am working my tail off...I need to do that anyway...because I can still do it!

I am thankful for financial difficulties because I become my most creative! emoticon

I am thankful that my children are not coming on Thanksgiving day, because it means that they have other family that loves them.
I am thankful that they will all be coming on Saturday.
I am also thankful that my husband has a good job and I have not had to work outside the home, so I now have time to take care of myself and improving my lifestyle.

Thank you,
You have listed a great number of ideas that for a number of people including my self would consider a negative in our lives and have shown in a new way, how much we have to be grateful for. There are always 2 sides to a coin, a glass half full or empty and our ability to choose.
At this very moment, I am grateful that I have a roof over my head, a computer and electric to run it and that I can see what you wrote.
I hope a lot of responses come, as this was a wonderful blog to show how fortunate we are to have met you.
Thank you for sharing

Daily or almost daily, I post "Devotions for Dieters" from Crosswalk.com/devotionals/for dieters

Some of you emoticon's answer daily.

Others are silent. I realize some are not interested but this is for those who are and can't find it. Some have written and said they did not know about this before.

Some teams are so kind as to make it a sticky but others get lost way down in the games or something.

Although I would do it for just one and it helps just one I would do it but it would be nice to know if you do read them.

Please just say in the comments to this blog, I read it but don't comment
Or I read it and do comment,
I didn't know about it but hunted it up and read my first one
Or I will look it up
Or I do not read it and am not interested.

Everyone who answers this will receive a goodie from me.

Thanks for writing the Dieter's Devotional . . . I hadn't seen it in some time. In looking back over your thread with the Inspired by Joyce Meyer Team, the stories that go with the verses are quite relevant and enlightening.

I have my hands pretty full with my own studies and faith-based activities. Biblegateway.com gets me a daily verse that often triggers further study for me or helps me design a future Spark Huddle. I signed up for the Charles Spurgeon devotion, but because he uses the old "ye" "hath" and "doth" language, I have difficulty getting past the language barriers and will likely unsubscribe to his devotional.

Please Thank a veteran today and if you are married to one do something very special for him today and that doesn't mean dragging him to the mall while you shop for yourself. That does not count. Do something he likes to do and maybe you don't.

I sent a poem about a husband complaining about his wife not cooking like his mother and was going to comment on it but it was so long it was a blog. So here it is.

When I married my wonderful Charles who passed away January 9, 2006 he pulled something like that on me also.
He had been married for many years before and she was a stay at home mom.
He soon began to tell me his first wife didn't make this or that the way I did and I told him I was not his first wife and didn't want to be.
He also told me he was happier with me than he had ever been in his life. I told him not to say that as he had the best of two worlds. He had three children by her but he also wanted to be in full time ministry and his wife did not want to be.
When he married me he became a full time missionary.
He did let me know from time to time how happy he was though and he was such a thoughtful man, taking care of me when I had hip replacement.
What goes around comes around so when he got Alzheimer's I had the privilege to take care of him for years and forgot to take care of myself. I would do it again though but would try to take care of myself also.
He deserved it.
Today is veteran's day and I always remember him as he was a veteran and I have a signed certificate by President George Bush thanking him for his service to our country. It is too bad they wait for them to die to give them the recognition.

Love them while you have them as you never know what tomorrow will bring.

A Good Poem (borrowed from New Caz Spark friend)

Thursday, November 10, 2011

He didn't like the casserole

And he didn't like my cake,

He said my biscuits were too hard

Not like his mother used to make.

I didn't perk the coffee right

He didn't like the stew,

I didn't mend his socks

The way his mother used to do.

I pondered for an answer

I was looking for a clue.

Then I turned around and

Smacked him one

Like his mother used to do.

The poem made me chuckle and I read it to my DD and she laughed, but then I went down and read your last post. That is so sad, I saw my dad raise his fist to my mom one time in my life and she said to him, "go ahead and make it good because it'll be the last time." He never did do it, I think it was just stress but it was scary at the time as I was a teenager.

My mother received abuse from my father after working like a horse all day. I would see him slap my mother in front of me and sometimes the others. Then the worse would be when he gave her the silent treatment.

Thanks for making me laugh this morning.

For the last 3 Thanksgivings my brother-in-law has commented that my rolls are not like his mother's. She always served those tiny Pepperidge Farm rolls. Mine are freshly melt in your mouth just risen.

My brother-in-laws response to my husband telling him I could not cook this year was..."But what about her rolls!?!" Guess under all those complaints he really liked them...men...smile.

Many of you have asked for my news letters so thought I would write it in a blog and hope you find it. This is a news-letter I just sent out to my supporters.

Hello everyone: Thank you for your continued support for the work in Mexico. God is good and we know He is more powerful than any enemy.

You wonder where the peaceful Mexico went where I used to live and drive all over without fear. We know they need the gospel of Jesus Christ more than they ever had.

The latest news I have read is they are also recruiting children as young as 11 years old on the US side of the border where I live to work for them. Children and young people are arrested expecting a better life but often finding themselves entrapped in something they can't get out of.

Sundays paper had an article about a teacher from the mid west who came to our area as her relatives were here. She tried to teach in Texas but to teach here needed more training so she substituted for awhile. Then she learned of a job of teaching English in Mexico so moved over there to pursue this. In the beginning it wasn't too bad but each year it became worse.

Finally she went to Soriana one night to shop and when she returned to her truck found it was torn apart (no doubt the steering as this happened to a truck I had years ago in a parking lot also). She called friends who came to her aid but when they got there they hear shooting in the parking lot so hid down in the floor of their vehicles for an hour afraid of what was going to happen.

She is now in the US again substitute teaching.

We still hear of shootings, of people being kidnapped, of mass graves. They have not found the brother of the lady from my Spanish Sunday School class who was kidnapped from his own home and many others have never been found.

So sad but God loves Mexico. We need to pray for our country also. I will be going to the bridge (on our side) to meet the pastors Thursday morning to do my mission work.

Oh, I am very grateful that young girl was not hurt.

There is so much evil in our world--I am glad we have our faith and Jesus to get us through these times. I will start praying more.

Our mission agency has several missionary families in Mexico... some as church planters and some as missionary pilots. We had to pull 3 families out of Durango area due to the terrible violence and threats. One of our other pilots stationed in Chihuahua was arrested and his plane confiscated when he flew into a remote area. It took quite awhile for the powers to be to allow him to be released and even longer to get the plane back.

On the positive note, we have Mexican nationals who are returning to their own home areas to lead their people to Christ...

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing this information. I am saddend by the mean soirited and mean acting people, who act out what they feel is what they are supposed to do. When one knows better, often times they do better. I will continue to pray for your safety, and a much needed revival like I pictured the Azua(mispelled) Revival was. I know that God is making changes, and instead of questioning, I do keep reminding myself to accept what God allows. I am comforted that you are in God's arms. Blessings to you.

Thank you everyone for your comments and for your information. I have sent out other news letters telling of terrible things that are happening and our pastors in Mexico tell me we don't know 1/2 of what is happening.
I know it is dangerous. I was going to write something here now but felt to not write it as it could be dangerous.

Our church supports a missionary who works in the El Paso / Juarez border where it is also very dangerous. This man and his wife are Mexicans, live in TX and travel back and forth across the border at least 3 times a week. He is a pastor and has started a seminary in Juarez to train Mexican men to be pastors. Very dangerous.
But God is the one who brings Peace to His people.

Hi Irene. I heard a missionary from Mexico speak at a conference a year ago. She was of Hispanic descent. She lived in one of the largest cities where beheadings were common and other horrendous things I don't want to mention. She said what was happening was pure evil. I understand that it is not only the poor from Mexico sneaking into the U.S., but terrorists and that was certainly confirmed when an undercover agent was approached by one of the people who thought he contacted a drug cartel operator to help him blow up U.S. and Saudi embassies along with assassination of the Saudi ambassador. Now we hear Mexico is considering offering a 2 year marriage license. Things are moving fast, we must reach people with the truth.

Irene, you are doing some awesome work with what you are doing.

If I had the money you would get it.

Maybe I will be able to, just have to wait and see what comes up with money.

Prayer is the only thing that I can do, but, prayer works miracles.

You are so valuable for the kingdom of God.

Thank you so much for having such a warm and passionate heart for Mexico you are a special person.

I pray for the strength and wisdom of our Lord to guide you as His love showers down onto you and all those around you so that there will be many coming to the cross of Jesus because of the love of God just shining through you and your faithfulness. In the name of Jesus

Thanks for your prayer letter Irene. It's so sad what is happening in Mexico. Many years ago I lived in El Paso (for five months) and my friends and I frequently drove over to Mexico to go shopping. We felt quite safe then. Not now. Mexicans as do all men and women need the Lord.
God Bless you in your ministry this Thursday and every day.
