Many of you already know this, some don't.
I promised a blog a long time ago so decided now would be the time.

TOPS is a non profit weight loss group which means TAKE OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY.

In 2007 I weighed 204 when first starting TOPS and reached my goal weight of 152 in nine months.

I went to what they call SRD to graduate and be crowned one of many princesses as I had lost the most in our part of Texas. What a beautiful time.

This is not the best picture but I am not good on pictures but this is one we took personally outside of our motel room. The professional one is on my Spark Page and is better.

After returning to my home things changed as our leader resigned and we had no leader for a while. The few who were here for the summer voted to not have meetings, just weigh ins and that once a month. I told them it wouldn't work for me. I continued as weight recorder but after gaining 15 pounds back decided to change chapters.

I did change chapters and began losing the 15 pounds. I did lose it and once again became a KOP

They gave a party for me at our chapter and presented me with cards and gifts. I am so proud of the plaque a special friend made for me which you see in the picture.
Some have asked what it says. This is what it says:

has, through diligence and determination, reached her
coveted goal and is hereby awarded this Certificate of Achievement.
Dated this 9th day of September,2010
T.O.P.S. #1694, Donna, Texas

Then it has A KOPS ROSE.

A yellow rose-beautiful, breathtaking,lush with life.
What does it mean when a KOPS gives you a yellow rose?
It means your KOPS friend-
believes in you more than you believe in yourself,
wants you to be everything you were meant to be;
wishes to see you happy with yourself as a person;
sees your potential even if you are blind to it; and
loves you enough to want you to become a KOPS too.

Here you find 5 pounds of fat someone sent me.

Just think I lost 10.4 of those. 52 lost divided by 5 = 10.4 Everyone was too kind to tell me I had made a mistake.

All of the time I belonged to Spark also and Spark and T.O.P.S. together helped me do this after I made up my mind I had to.

Now to keep it off.

Recently we had an area fun day. It was fantastic. Several chapters met and many received awards. I received a few myself. What fun we had.

emoticonand you will never be sorry.

Let's get on our horses and SPARK down the road.

Irene, that is a beautiful picture of you. A big congratulations.....
I think it is KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). I became a KOP, never had any kind of ceremony, or anything. Nothing. I got kinda discouraged because I couldn't go to ARD, or IRD and thought the local group would do something.
I have thought I would go back and see how things are going now.

You belong to a caring group, and it is groups like the one I went to that ruins it.

Hugs and prayers.

I am so proud of you - congratulations! But, do not forget the most important letter of being a KOPS - the "S" - which stands for SENSIBLY!!!

I, too, am a KOPS and a very active SPARKPEOPLE member. Together, these two activities really help me to maintain my 112.50 lb. loss to goal. I have maintained for 5+ years. It ain't easy...but it's doable!

Keep up the great work!!

This is the month of "days to a healthier heart" and our SPARK calendar gives us 28 ways to do just that. emoticon

Today I had a scheduled routine appointment with my heart specialist.
I had a lot of questions he could not answer but others he did.

One was didn't you tell me I had a leaky valve or artery in my heart.
The answer "Yes, but it is nothing to worry about. It is a very small leak".

But this is the one that was so emoticon
He told me that my last stress showed no plaque at all. The one before had showed a little plaque. I said, "Do you mean by EATING HEALTHY you can reverse that". He said " it has been proven to do just that".

So LET'S LIVE IT UP EATING HEALTHY. It can change a lot of things in our lives. emoticon

Change your way of thinking. emoticon

Be optimistic. emoticon

Move as much as you can. emoticon

See your doctor.

emoticon Trust God to help you with what you think you can't do.

emoticon If you love SPARK you will follow its suggestions.

I am so Happy emoticon

I am content with what I have. I have a roof over my head, a nice warm house, food to eat, have freedom of worship.

God bless all, and have a good night.

Yesterday my pastor called to check up on me as a lady with the last name of Davis who was a missionary had been killed close to Reynosa.
The drug cartel had a blockade set up but they didn't stop so they shot her and she later died. I thought she was 51 but someone who knows her says she was 59.
As most of you know I had not felt to travel in Mexico for a while and had just been to the Texas side of the border the Friday before. The pastor's son met me there and I was able to transact business.
They beg me to go over to see the parsonage we just finished but they did bring some pictures.
I hope to get someone to post the pictures they sent.
Now we are looking for a lot for parking.
Please continue to pray for Mexico and for South Texas as there are a lot of things going on here also.
I sent the link about this yesterday. Hope all read it.
God bless all of you.

Irene, just getting around to reading this blog and it brings back memories. We pastored a church in OKC for 20 years and my DH used to take doctors and medicines across the Mexican border to hold medical clinics to help the people. That was before the drug cartels became so active and dangerous. The missionaries who die are heros are martyrs for the Lord and they will recieve their rewards in heaven.
While we served as missionaries in Mindanao, Philippines numerous people were killed by rebels and even several missionaries kidnapped and killed. We were forced out ourselves because of extortion/ death threats with what you might say the clothes on our backs and important papers and pictures. And God Bless you too as you work for him. Please take care...

As I hear more and more about this wonderful godly lady it is just so sad that she died in the way she did. The people of Mexico lost a woman who loved them very much.

I pray that the people of Mexico will start to see that these Drug Lords are following the wrong path and they will band together to stop them.

I always hate to read about this type of murder and mayhem. I'm a Mormon and we always have missionaries all over the world. Often times they are murdered or brutalized where they are trying to spread the Word of the Lord. Our first instinct is to wonder why people would want to hurt messengers of God. The answer I get is that they have free-agency just like we do. It, just like everything else in the world, is a dichotomy: There has to be the bad so we can enjoy and appreciate the good.

Best of luck and my prayers are with you in your endeavers.

My sister also is a missionary in Mexico, in Reynosa, and another place too. She has been in the process of moving back to the U.S... and I pray to God that she is safe while doing this! I would rather she just left her "stuff" in Mexico than to risk being hurt or killed by the violence going on. She doesn't see it that way since she owns an apartment complex that she had built there... She also has a new pickup and does the same thing, collecting supplies for the Mexican churches and delivering to them.
Please pray for her! Her name is Shirley. emoticon

Jibbie and for anyone else who wondered. They were probably taking things into Mexico for the people that wouldn't fit into a smaller vehicle.
Someone asked another missionary why didn't they just stop and let them have their money and truck?
Answer: Which would you rather have? A shot in the head or be decapitated which usually happens to those they rob?
When anyone is in a situation like that they don't have time to think things through but either they they probably wouldn't have gotten out alive.

I had read the article and it seemed pathetic that the guy didn't stop and got his wife killed just so they didn't steal his truck from him. It said in the article that he was driving an '08 model truck that was "very flashy" for that area and that the gunmen wanted trucks like that. Couldn't figure his reasoning for driving it after it said he'd been working down there for over 30 years and knew the area. At any rate, it was sad that the woman was killed.
My husband was stationed in the Navy in New Orleans and he knew not to try to get away from someone who tried to rob him, but to just hand over to them what they wanted and stay alive. He had his car broken into three times, but luckily wasn't rob outright. Lots of people he knew were.

I did not hear anything of this. I do not like listening to too much news because I dont want to become infected with the negative aspects of all the bad stuff is all they show. I am so deeply concerned that her family receives the healing and comfort and love of our Lord to make it through this desperately hurting period of their life. This is the love of our Lord working through His body when a person gives his or her life for the gospel of Jesus Christ and is taken out of this world in the midst of walking in the love of our Lord and doing and being obedient to the gifting and calling that is on their life. That enemy is evil and thinks that by taking out people from the kingdom that will keep us from believing the Lord and all His good and love and grace. I seem to think and believe her reward in heaven is great. She gave all she could give, her life. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The Ant and the Contact Lens: a true story

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. "Great", she thought. "Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry."
She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth."

She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?"

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You."

I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Thanks for sharing this story with us Irene. I have been in a lot of pain since Christmas. I have frozen shoulder syndrome & it is very painful. It has brought my spirits down & worn me out. I was thinking why does God give us such tough situations to get thru in life....I needed to read this story. So thank you Irene.

After losing my KOPS status in TOPS I left the chapter for personal reasons.
I gained back 15 pounds. emoticon
That was tough since I had been crowned queen and graduated from TOPS to KOPS

In the meantime I continued with SPARK and finally decided to drive about 18 miles from my home to another chapter and began losing again.

It is not easy to maintain! And the second time around it was more difficult to lose but lose I did and once again became a KOP.

Our chapter gave a
for me. Such nice cards and some gifts.

In the picture you will see me holding a gift given by a dear friend in our chapter.
Then has THE KOPS YELLOW ROSE and what it signifies.

What an honor.

I thank TOPS, my chapter, my dear friends there as well as SPARK and all the friends I have made on SPARK.

I realize ultimately it is me alone that has to make the decision to lose but thank God for all of the help He has given me along the way.
