Well, I realized 2 days a week at the senior fitness wasn't going to do it for me. Especially since I am usually booked one of those days.
So today I enrolled in the GYM again.
I have lost a lost of strength as I have only been walking and not too much.
So today, the first day I took it easy.
I did the emoticonfor 15 minutes and it did not hurt my knees.
Then I did 15 minutes of the upper body machine after the which went to the circuit room and did 15 minutes on the machines I can master.
At the gym I can choose my own hours and days. They are closed Saturday and Sunday though as no one was going.
Just to let you know.

    Thank you everyone. I acquired a new problem in the night. I got gout in my big toe which is very painful no matter the position I am in.
I had this once before and it is worth emoticonabout.
Seems if it isn't one thing tis another.

    Good to recognize that you were losing strength and joined the gym again. It's really important as we age to keep up the strength training to keep our muscles strong as well as the aerobics for healthy heart.

  Why am I hesitating to do what you do? We have a gym right across from my retirement home and yet I am very reluctant to use it. Thanks for writing about what you do. I'm really giving serious thought to starting it in September. Since you have always been so kind, I will let you know if I do and if I do, your blog pushed me to do it.

I gurss I gotta wonder why you quit the gym so fast unless it was a $ thing.I sure know what thats like!

I'm so happy that you reported no pain in your knees during and after your workout today. I hope you put some ice on them when you got home, just in case of a delayed reaction. Did you elevate your legs?

    Irene you rubbed off on me...I needed to "do it again too" so tonight instead of sitting here and complaining that it was too hot to walk outside....I went to the Y and rode the bike for 30 minutes...then did a full strength workout and finished up with a mile on the treadmill....I feel so accomplished instead of just sitting here and surfing the web. We can "do it"...thanks for all your encouragement through your own personal trials.

I am so proud of you. You are determined to meet your goal and you WILL. If you look at what you did today after not going for a while you did fantastic. I think you made a good choice and one that gives you so much more flexibility in days and times. I liked what you said about the senior fitness wasn't going to work for you. You are so aware of what you need.

    Good for you, Irene! You set a good example! I turned 61 recently and am learning why my dad used to say that he felt a definite slow down after 60. Whoa.

How's it going with your no ice cream challenge??? Hmmm? I broke down and bought some of the Weight Watcher fudge bars to have on the nights that I have met my daily nutrition goals and want a treat. Tasty!

Well, I went to the gym today to enroll again. The senior workouts are not enough as it is two days a week and I usually am booked for something else one of those days.
At the gym I can set my own emoticon
Started slow today as I had lost a lot of strength and knew I shouldn't do as much as I had done before when I had been doing it for months.
I did do 15 minutes on the bike though and it did not hurt my knees.
Did 15 minutes on the upper body machine.
Did 15 minutes in the circut room.
So am on my way again.

Some of you already know how I emoticonyesterday when I weighed in at TOPS.
In part I blame emoticonand in part I blame the Chinese food I had the evening before which we know is laden with Salt and MSG. I try to avoid the dishes made with soy but msg can be hidden in so many things without a person ever knowing.
Well I gained 3.5 pounds from the week before. emoticon
I had NEVER done that before.
Well as some of you know I asked everyone to check in on me. This is one time I am needing support for sure.
I did ok yesterday after weigh in with a salad and Blackened Salmon.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticonto get my veggies for the day,
emoticonhelps you to lose weight, honest! Check it out.
And had a whole gran sandwich thin. If you haven't tried them, now is the time. I like them best toasted.
So a star for the 29th, one day down. Now to continue the good work.
As most of you know, and I wrote in an earlier blog, I did go to the senior fitness program yesterday and even sat on one of those feisty UNstability emoticon emoticon
One friend on Sparrk was so kind as to tell me how you were supposed to sit on them so as not to go emoticonflying. (couldn't find a plane)

The weigh in ladies at TOPS couldn't even believe I gained so much.
When I got home though I started losing a lot of water and this morning I had lost most of those 3.5 pounds I am sure. My emoticonshowed I had lost which was a boost for me.
Today I WILL BE GOOD, I WILL EAT GOOD. No ice cream!

    Irene, I'm positive that most of that weight gain was from sodium and not the ice cream! Chinese is LOADED with salt! Also many, many other foods.
But kudos to you dear one, for eating so well yesterday, you're going to be just fine!
I'll still ask you about ice cream from time to time, if you'll do the same for me! emoticon

    I'm a big fan of "ice cream" as well. I have to do dairy free, but there are yummy ones,, so for ice cream, I always weigh out the portion. No guesstimating on what I call dangerous or treat foods. You can have your ice cream and not sabotage yourself if you are willing to practice strict portion control.

You did great yesterday! You can do this. Also, home scales aren't always real accurate. Mine said I lost 6 lbs in 4 days. I know that didn't happen.

    It does sound like mostly water gain, glad you lost most of it. My weakness is chips and dip, which I allow myself on Saturday. I switched my weigh in day to Friday because of water gain. Be careful on those balls I know someone who fell off one and broke her hip.

    I weigh in everyday and believe me your weight can fluctuate alot in one day ! Take a look at what you do in a week or two to get the true picture.

    You CAN do this! You know what foods give you trouble (Chinese, ice cream). You CAN exercise your self-control and stay away from them. I know you can!

I am glad you made it through the night with out ice cream, very good
I really don't have an answer to as why one can have such an increase in weight, if based on calories alone that is a lot of extra calories. With this blog it seems that you released some or all of it. Almost sounds like sodium caused it with the excess water.
However, I will remind you about the ice cream, over a period of time , certainly might add up.

    It does sound like it was water weight. It doesn't take much sodium to do it to me. If I drink one Diet Coke my ankles swell and I show more weight.

Great job on the ice cream! That is always a hard one but once you get away from the sweets for a while you won't crave it as much.

    I weigh in on Fridays because I haven't gone out to eat all week. THere is so much sodium in restaurant foods, especially chinese, mexican and italian (my favorites, of course!)

That kind of weigh in would have kept me from eating ice cream for at least a whole week!

So many have expressed your interest in the senior workout my neighbor teaches. She is a real sweetie. Glad she ran into my emoticon.
I took a friend and went this morning to emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
The only chairs in the room were the balls and that is to teach balance I guess. Never had sat on one before and wouldn't want to be in the middle of the room on one. LOL
We exercised for an hour, exercising each muscle and cooling down and stretching.
The last ten minutes I felt I had been standing long enough so started back to my unstability ball against the wall. Found out one of my knees hurt from too much standing but when I got up I was allright.
I am going to try to make it on Tuesday and Thursdays and go to the gym a couple or three days a week also.
I have to get busy and get these last 5 pounds off.
They will not Win, NO, NO, NO.
I will win the battle of the bulge, the biggest battle ever fought.
Thank you for my friends for all your encouragement, for standing with me, well, just for everything you do to make this battle more endurable.

I have to leave off having emoticonevery day so someone please ask me every day if I had ice cream. Then in the morning ask me if I snuck off in the night to get it after you had already asked me.

    So glad you have such a nice, honest neighbor that you met by "accident".

Ice cream is my treat, but I weight out 1/2 cup. It isn't a lot but it is soooo satisfying.

I admire your determination to get the last 5 lbs off. With that kind of determination, you will get it done.

    I am glad you enjoyed your workout. It makes it so much easier to endure when you have fun. Ice cream is my weakness too, but I am getting better at staying away from it. Just a little bit every now and then.

    Thanks for sharing about the senior exercises, Irene!! So glad they are enjoyable and that your knee felt better once you were standing! Hope the shots are making your knees stronger.

Congrats on being determined to lose those last 5 lbs.

Have any star stickers or a favorite pretty color ink pen? If so put one on the calendar each day you make it without ice cream!! That will give you something to look at and to be proud about and will help skipping seem not so bad!! :)

    I just love ice cream too. but I have a subsitute I eat frozen banana's and I love them as much as ice cream. your classes sound great ,but I don't know about sitting on a ball.

    Everyone is always there for you Irene because we love you, and you are always there for us.
I know you are having these shots for your Knee, but don't overdo the excercise, and defeat the good the shots are doing. I know you will make it back to your goal, you are such a determined lady, it shouldn't take you too long, and we are all here rooting for you.

    Since we all know that you respond to stress with - " ICE CREAM - NOW", you probably need a plan for an alternate "stress treat" that won't get in your way of healthy weight loss!

It sounds like a great way to get some exercise in. Programs geared for seniors makes a lot of sense.

Ice cream is such a temptation! We keep it in the freezer because my family enjoys it and can afford the calories. For me, I try to resist but don't always succeed!

    It sounds like you did a good job with a good workout! emoticon is also my weakness and I cannot keep it in the house, either. (sigh) It's probably a good thing that the nearest ice cream is a 15 mile round trip away!!!

I am so glad you made it today. It looks like you got a good workout. I think from hoe you described it you did quite well. You should be proud of yourself. It will get a little easier as you progress. Who knows perhaps the unstability ball may become table. I am glad you also decided to go to the gym.
As far as that last 5 pounds, absolutely you are going to release it and it will be gone forever.
You know I will ask you if you had an ice cream cone or even ice cream and I certainly think it would be a good thing to know if you snuck out during the night. Perhaps you are walking in your sleep and are not aware you walked to the ice cream shop, certainly hope you were not driving while sleep walking. I will check up on you.

    Irene - if this is the blog you mentioned, we don't use the stability ball. we have to bring our own equipment consisting of weights and resistance bands.

i thought of getting one for my home but decided against it as i have tile thruout and the balls would not be stable. i did see one with a flat bottom but decided against it.

we have a complete body workout which includes leg exercises and weights/resistance and stretching. many do everything sitting down as they cannot stand.

i also do all of these at home - love the squats. happy you are continuing the classes. we have so many various classses, you could spend the entire day and still not do all.

but your blog is interesting - will keep checking them.

    Char years ago I quit having ice cream in the house. My problem is eating it out and sometimes evening sneaking out at at night and driving through Dairy Queen's and getting a Blizzard. The last one I had wasn't nearly as good as the one before but I ate it. After all it was ice cream with chocolate candy in it.:)

    Your exercise on the "unstability ball" sounds great. So happy it is available to you.

About the ice cream... I've found that I just can't have it in the house. Too tempting. Once in a while we break down and get some when we get groceries.
We love just going to McDonalds and getting one of their 49 cent cones.
SORT OF helps with the craving of ice cream.
