UNtraditional Cabbage Rolls

Sunday, September 07, 2008

4 or 5 cans of large tomato sauce 28 t0 32 oz
2 eggs
2 large onions
1 1/2 to 2 cups of rice
large head of cabbage
garlic powder
garlic cloves
sugar
basil
oregano
cinamon
ginger
3 to 4 lbs of hamburger

I donít us a recipe to make this its a little of this and a little of that those of you that like to experiment know what I mean but I tried to write it to the best of my recollection

I usually cook a lot of it because I donít make it that often because itís messy

First I use the really big cans of sauce 28 or 32 oz I Sautee onions and garlic and add a little basil and oregano, garlic powder then add cans of sauce 4 or 5 and a little sugar to taste I like it on the sweet side but itís a matter of taste. Then cook it down till its thick

In the mean time take a large head of cabbage cut the core out the best you can and boil

It till you can peel the leaves off I cool it under cold water first.

Take three to four lbs of Hamburger I donít like a lot of rice so I use a cup and a half to two cups add two eggs and 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon ľ tsp dry ginger then you mix really well

Take you cabbage leaves put the Hamburger mixture in and roll it up and place rolled side

Down in large pan I that has enough room to cover with sauce fill and roll each one I like mine large and place in order then cover with sauce and cook one and a half to two hours till tender

In a 350 degree oven

Yup Diane...this is very similar to my recipe. I'm like you tho, I don'y make it often because it is a lot of work. I order them cheap enough from the Polish ladies when I see them on sale at the Polish church. Actually better than mine

Diane Dear Little Glombke maker.. It's basically like mine.. I have a recipe for a lazy glombke.. I can e-mail it to you.. I make this more often than taking the time to roll eachone individually.. It's a lot quicker to prepare & needs the same amt of time in the oven.. You are such a great cook & I can tell... You have a great talent.. Love Ya Polly Pirogie Thanks for sharing.. Enjoy
Lazy Glombki`````````
My sister makes it with brown rice and says, that it's just as good.
Lazy Glombki
1 large head of cabbage ( chopped coarsly, & par boiled until tender) 10-15
min.
1 large onion,( diced and sauteed with butter spray & 4-6 T I can't beleive it's not butter.
1 1/2 lbs. hamburg.
1-2 c. rice, cooked ( not too mushy) just a little tender. about 4 min. less than directions.
2 cans of campbell's tomatoe soup or 2 c. tomatoe juice. or half soup, and half juice.

Layer 1/2 cabbage in a 9x13 pan, mix raw hamburg, salt & pepper to taste, sauteed onion,
cooked rice. Mix well. Put hamburg and rice mix, on top of layered cabbage. Use
remaining cabbage, to top hamburg & rice. Pour tomatoe soup or juice on top over
of cabbage! If you are using soup dilute with tomatoe juice or water to thin out.
Cover tightly with foil, bake 375, for about 1 1/2 hours. Hamburg will cook, up nicely.
This recipe, is so tasty! I'm not too sure, on the cals. or fats, or carbs. Makes about 10-12
med. servings. Freezes well! Great for the Fall. You just put everything together, and you
don't have to fill, the cabbage, or roll. Less time and taste great. Enjoy!

This recipe can be doubled..

our last anniversery

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

On my last anniversary my husband and I decided to go to a place near the lake the closest place was Holland mi my husband had stayed there years ago We stopped at different places on the shore on the way to or motel room It was beautiful have you ever tried walking up hill in sand you really get your exercise believe me Well we went to our room and debated what restaurant we wanted to go to w
We decide on one that was expensive and right off the water the view was unbelievable they were short on tables because the place was packed they put us at the bar for a short time then after we explained it was our anniversary they moved us to a room where no one else was that had a huge picture window looking out on the lake the food was delicious and we had appetizers and we had two drinks we were probably there for at least two hours when it was time to go the waiter went to get dessert to go I had forgot the table was up high like a platform I went down side ways with a thud... My husband had realized a minute too late to warn me he forget too I knew right away I broke it I was so glad no one else was there we didn t tell the waiter I told my husband we had to go to the hospital We had passed it when we arrived they called in a specialist who set it told me go to a doctor when we got home to make a long story short I ended up having surgery because it moved we stopped at a few places on the shore as went home but wasn't the anniversary we had planned

So much of the anniversary sounds as if it was ideal. Now the ending! Yikes!
I used to have a patio set that had bar stools which were high off the ground and I had to get rid of it, so I can relate a little bit to being high off the ground and how hard it can be to navigate getting down.
Have a great week Diane!

Diane, I know that you will never forget your last Anniversary.. What a total shock.. Those chairs were up too high, & really dangerous as you found out.. I can't believe the experience that you had.. At least the meals were wonderful..
The area sounded really romantic.. Broken arm, not romantic.. Well at least you can find a bit of peace in your situation for now.. Anniversary Night at the ER..
Yikes.. I bet that you didn't plan for that to happen.. Thanks for sharing your story.. I think that they should have put a emoticonsign up! Love & Hugs Polly I know that you are celebrating again this week-end.. Proceed with Caution.. LOL

Oh my - what a disappointing to a beautiful anniversary getaway!

But there'll be other anniversaries and celebrations! Look for the positive! At worst, you now have a "story" to tell ... betcha you can make it sound really funny if you choose to! And when you look back at your anniversaries - I bet you'll REMEMBER this one for life! :)

Hugs,
Maya
