    We 'got to' have a plan, and we 'got to' control our negative thoughts and actions. so this sound reasonable enough to me!

Re-Working What Has Already Been Worked On

Monday, April 30, 2012

Silently I look at the scales, bite my lip, cuss a little bit under my breath.. ***n.. Up three pounds.

I reevaluate what I have done right / wrong this week. Nope can't think of anything emoticon. If I could think of something I could at least know what to change.

How many of you have been there, done this?

How many times can you reassess your goals in any given year? I'd say as many as you want until you get the right combination. I evidently do not have the right combination. For the past 4 months I have yo-yo'd my way back and fourth. I have been very consistent with tracking what I eat (down to the cap of oil in scrambled eggs), consistent with tracking exercise (usually up to 60 min a day). Why the weight gain? Perhaps I have more muscle. Perhaps I have water gain. Could be several factors. I really don't know.

What I do know is that I promised myself if this happened I wouldn't beat myself up. Instead I would take the healthier road. Take a look at the scenario and change the scenery to fit my needs.

Yesterday was the first day to my Spring Challenge. I did everything correctly. Today I haven't done anything yet, but then again it is only 5:52 AM. I know what I'm going to do. 10 min of toning. Also today is a cardio day. Which shouldn't be too hard to accomplish since I could do a number of things. Walk, bike ride, treadmill or Gazelle my way to 30 - 60 min of sweat equity. emoticon

So today as I re-work what has already been worked on before, make wiser decisions and just be myself I will also remember:

"I am responsibly growing those vines in my life that will help me. I will tend to those vines with a watchful eye, and a pair of scissors for cutting loose that which is preventing me from enjoying the sunlight of life."

Spring into Bathing Suit Shape!

Thanks for joining SparkPeople's Official "Spring Into Shape" Bootcamp Workout Challenge! During this 4-week challenge, you'll do more than sculpt your tummy, thighs and arms. You'll also start a fitness streak that will help you make fitness a part of your daily life! Bootcamp involves a daily commitment to exercise—often in just 10-minute chunks that fit easily into your day.

This week, we'll dive right in on day one! Are you ready to change your body and your attitude about exercise?

Week 1 Action Plan

1. Do one 10-minute toning video each day. Follow one of these routines each day (all you'll need is a pair of dumbbells), starting today! If you have more time, repeat the video once or twice for greater benefit. Get your workout videos.
2. Do 5 cardio sessions this week. In addition to your toning video, plan for cardio (aerobic) exercise any five days of the week. Aim for at least 10 minutes, but if you've been exercising for awhile, shoot for 30 minutes. Get cardio ideas.
3. Track your workouts. Make sure you are tracking your workouts on your Fitness Tracker. This will keep you accountable and help you see your progress over time!
4. Learn how to earn your trophy. By completing this challenge and tracking your goals in the "Spring Into Shape" Bootcamp SparkTeam, you'll be eligible for a special SparkTrophy at the end of the month. Get trophy tips here.

Day one - 50 min of toning done (dumb bells, resistant bands, wall pushups)

My affirmation for the day:

    I joined this, also. I just wrote my check out for this summers' pool membership and I may just be able to put on a suit and do some swimming this year. I haven't gone the past couple of years since the kids are old enough to go without an adult present.

Richard Simmons slams 'Biggest Loser' methods

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Entertainment Tonight

Richard Simmons, America's unofficial weight loss guru for decades, is criticizing NBC's popular show "The Biggest Loser" for using "terrible" tactics to get contestants to shed pounds.

In an interview with MensHealth.com, Simmons says that although "The Biggest Loser" has "some merit," it takes the wrong approach to helping people reach their weight loss goals. "I'm not into any show that makes people compete when they lose weight," he says.

Simmons says material incentives aren't good long-term solutions. "Voting off people every week because they didn't lose enough weight, or giving somebody a car or money because they did lose weight? That's terrible. ... Who are you competing against? It's you. You need to be doing this for you and only you."

So what are your thoughts about "The Biggest Loser"? Good or bad...

    Totally agree. I don't like any of the concept of that show. Not the screaming at people to exercise, not the pitting of people against each other, but especially against the unreal expectations each week. Weight loss is a slow steady procession that needs to become the way of life. Going on a diet and doing extreme exercise without the pressures of family or work is very unrealistic for most people.

    I Totally agree with him!

I never watch the biggest loser any way.

I also remember watching some show where Richard was on not sure which one it was & there and he was asked about ALL the diets & fades out there and how he felt, his response was a slap in the face...folks are just wanting there two 2Cents or should I say fortune in making a few million $ with weight lose.

    I agree with Richard. I quit watching the Biggest Loser about 4 seasons ago. I hated how they would get the contestants all emotional etc. Also, it is an unrealistic life style. How many of the contestants actually keep the weight off after they are off the program, unless they get hired at s motivational speaker etc?

Also, if the program really wanted watchers to lose weight, wouldn't they help by showing what the people are eating and how much, how much they actually work out? About the only time they talk food is for a commercial/product placement. I think they should keep everyone for the whole show.

Obesity is a money maker for the schemers and scammers! Even most insurance companies will not help people lose weight. Mine does not, but they give $350.00/yr to quit smoking though!

    I think the Biggest Loser has it's good points. It seems to have helped a lot of people. But, how many of us get the chance to have a vacation from life and focus just on losing weight?! They have all the tools right there for success. It upsets me when people chug water to throw their weigh in off for the sake of the game! Most of us are trying to eak out every drop of urine to make our weigh ins the lowest possible! I guess whatever works for each individual person and gets them to their personal goals is what is important. And Richard is right- you have to be intrinsically motivated!

  I agree with Richard. People lose weight at different rates, to pit one against the other is defeating in so many ways. Thank you, Richard, for always speaking from your heart.

Just Do It Anyways

Friday, April 27, 2012

Occasionally we may feel that it is a waste of time and energy to act with integrity, compassion, and concern for all. Especially when our efforts don't seem appreciated. When rejected, we may be reluctant to try again even though everything in our souls cries out for us to move forward.

Mother Teresa, who certainly lived a life that is an example for all of us, wrote the following. Perhaps she also felt let down at times.

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.

by Mother Teresa

Keep moving toward your goals with integrity and compassion. When confronted with resistance, smile and do it anyway.

Affirmation for the Week:

"I will act, think, and "be" with no expectations in return, and there I will find peace and contentment."

Have a doing and giving week!

Donna
