There is one habit that we all engage in, to varying degrees, and that is the habit of gossiping. We have even been advised not to say anything about a person if we cannot say something good about him/her. We have also heard the humorous adage, "If you can't say something nice about someone... come over here and sit down by me."
We may have even heard another person say, when offering chewy bits of information about someone else, "I can't tell you any more than I have already told you -- I have already told you more than I heard myself."
We can offer up many reasons why we "exchange information" about others. We may even feel justified in doing so. However, the bottom line is that gossiping is a hurtful activity. Read on...
A woman repeated a bit of gossip about a neighbor. Within a few days the whole community knew the story. The person it concerned was deeply hurt and offended. Later the woman responsible for spreading the rumor learned that it was completely untrue.
She was very sorry and went to a wise old sage to find out what she could do to repair the damage. "Go to the marketplace," he said, "and purchase a chicken, and have it killed. Then on your way home, pluck its feathers and drop them one by one along the road."
Although surprised by this advice, the woman did what she was told. The next day the wise man said, "Now go and collect all those feathers you dropped yesterday and bring them back to me." The woman followed the same road, but the wind had blown the feathers all away. After searching for hours, she returned with only three in her hand.
"You see," said the old sage, "it's easy to drop them, but it's impossible to get them back. So it is with gossip. It doesn't take much to spread a rumor, but once you do, you can never completely undo the wrong."

Affirmation for the Week:
"Before I repeat a story about any other person, I will ask myself the following: Is it true? Is it harmless? Is it necessary? If the answer is "no" to any of these questions, I won't repeat it."

When you're overweight it's easy to start hating your body. You look in the mirror. You see rolls of fat and you don't like what you see.
In some ways, it is a good thing to hate those rolls of fat. It can give you the strength and motivation to take action and do something about them. And it does work for some dieters.
But does it work for YOU? Has it EVER worked?
Often catching yourself in the mirror or seeing a photograph of yourself, is enough to make you realize how you have let weight creep up. The initial shock is good to get you on your way. After that you might very well find that hating your body is counter-productive.
How so?
The thing is, if you hate your body and ignore it as much as you can, it is psychologically much easier to abuse it with junk food, saturated fat, excess sugar and alcohol, and not to care about anything in the moment but the food or drink that is tempting you.
It's much better for your well-being and weight to get into the mindset of caring for your body, giving it everything it needs to be ultra healthy.
It might seem like a big ask to switch to that mindset but you can get there by starting to care for your body on a day to day basis. Use the nicest most fragrant and soothing shower or bath gel. Take care of excess hair (that means guys too now manscaping is in vogue!) Apply skin softening body lotion and if your skin is pasty white (and you prefer to have a tan) then learn how to apply a self tanning product to get an even color or go to a salon for a regular treatment. If you have the time and spare cash, try a massage or aromatherapy treatment.
Your body is so worth it. You only have one.
Once you are caring for your body like that on a regular basis you will find it much more natural to consider your body's need for exercise and good food in your everyday life. You will see what giving yourself a treat really means and it doesn't come in the form of a chocolate bar.
What are you going to do to pamper your body? I'd love to know how this works for you. Just hit reply to this newsletter if you want to reach me.

June 30th I took a look at my past year. I haven't done everything I had planned on.
1.) I haven't given blood (Our local American Red Cross was on strike and just this past week that was resolved)
2.) I haven't taken swimming lessons as I had planned. (At $60 a pop and money tight, I chose to way-lay this one for now)
3.) I haven't stuck to my original goals. I have accomplished most, but others have taken a back seat.
For the next 6 months I am going to:
1.) Track my food (all of it)
2.) Exercise at least 30 min a day
3.) Find a local blood drive (I actually have one across the street from me during fair week in August)
4.) Perhaps find a class to take to get me a little more excited again about exercise. I've been finding myself dreading it.
5.) Reassess at the end of the year what I have completed the past 6 months.
I know I will have good / bad days. I accept that. What I cannot accept is defeat, discouragement and the will not to continue on my journey.
As in the famous words of one of my favorite songs ~
One day at a time, Sweet Jesus, that's all I'm asking from you
Give me the strength to do everyday, what I need to do.
Yesterday's gone Sweet Jesus, and tomorrow may never be mine
So for today, show me the way, One Day at a Time
Donna
