The story behind "The Twelve Days of Christmas"

Monday, December 17, 2012

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.-

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

Brought back the story my Scots-Irish grandfather would tell on Christmas Eve.
Great to see it once again.

Thanks!

Always Leave Em' Laughing

Saturday, December 15, 2012

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all round my hips
Were Fannie May candies that sneaked past my lips.
Fudge brownies were stored in the freezer with care
In hopes that my thighs would forget they were there.

While Mama in her girdle and I in chin straps
Had just settled down to sugar-borne naps.
When out in the pantry there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the kitchen I flew like a flash,
Tore open the icebox then threw up the sash.
The marshmallow look of the new-fallen snow
Sent thoughts of a binge to my body below.

When what to my wandering eyes should appear
A marzipan Santa with eight chocolate reindeer!
That huge chunk of candy so luscious and slick
I knew in a second that I’d wind up sick.

The sweet-coated santa, those sugared reindeer
I closed my eyes tightly but still I could hear;
On Pritzker, on Stillman, on weak one, on TOPS
A Weight Watcher dropout from sugar detox.

From the top of the scales to the top of the hall
Now dash away pounds now dash away all.
Dressed up in Lane Bryant from my head to nightdress
My clothes were all bulging from too much excess.

My droll little mouth and my round little belly,
They shook when I laughed like a bowl full of jelly.
I spoke not a word but went straight to my work
Ate all of the candy then turned with a jerk.

And laying a finger beside my heartburn
Gave a quick nod toward the bedroom I turned.
I eased into bed, to the heavens I cry–
If temptation’s removed I’ll get thin by and by.

And I mumbled again as I turned for the night
In the morning I’ll starve… ’til I take that first bite

Did you know that your tear ducts have drainage tubes?

Monday, December 10, 2012

At my checkup today the doctor took off the "yucky" bandage. emoticon

Now I can see my skin graft (it is larger than I thought) & it is still all bruised as is part of my face & nose. He took the stitches out of my shoulder (where he got the skin to graft). But all in all, it does look better.

I did not know that our tear ducts have drains. My skin cancer went all the way to the tear duct drain & because he cut it out too, he had to reconstruct it & put in a stent. It has a small
"string like" piece (the stent) coming out of it to keep it open & he said that he till probably leave this stent in for 3 months to be sure it is healed correctly.

Thankful he was able to get all the skin cancer!!

I am happy for you, that your surgery went well.
Praying that you will completely heal and feel
much better. I was told by my DO doctor that
eyes drain into the nose. Both of mine are
dry.

Good News! Cancer gone!

Friday, December 07, 2012

Yesterday at the follow-up doctor's visit, he said he was able to get all the skin cancer during the operation (the pathology report confirmed this). Praise the Lord! He still does not want me to pick up anything heavy or do anything strenuous. I go back Monday & he will remove the top dressing off the graft, but after looking at my stitches and into my eye with the "very strong light" he said it all looked good.

I am very thankful that he was able to do this as it was quite involved & now I will not have to undergo radiation treatments. Great day for me!!

That is great and yes put ice on it but make sure that it is not too long because you don't want to damage the skin, since it is the face and it is easily damaged.
