Beef Tips in the CP

2 lbs. beef chunks
1 T. oil
1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (14 oz) can beef broth
1/2 teaspoon Kitchen Bouquet

Directions:
Heat oil in skillet & brown beef well.
Add beef including browned bits & drippings, to CP, along with remaining ingredients.
Cook on high for 3-4 hours, until beef is tender.
Serve over cooked egg noodles, rice or mash potatoes.

Total Fat 26.2
Cholesterol 76.4
Sodium 693.9
Total Carb. 2.5

I usually use about 1 3/4 lb meat. Browning the meat does make a difference. When meat is tender I mix a little flour (or cornstarch) with water & stir into CP to thicken gravy. This is just a personal preference.

Woo Hoo!! Today is National Gardening Exercise Day!! (also kitty update)

Friday, July 06, 2012

Gardening is about the only exercise that I have been doing lately (unless you count the hard work of canning) emoticon

I have canned okra & tomatoes (with onion), plain tomatoes & tomato soup (tomatoes, macaroni, onion & jalapeños) over the last several weeks. I had a poor onion crop, but pulled all of them & they are sitting on a round table on the covered porch along with the potatoes that I harvested. I am still getting tomatoes & the okra is growing (had to borrow okra from my sister-in-law for the okra/tomatoes as my okra was not ready.) Only about 1/2 of the wax beans came up, so we should have a few to eat fresh, but I had hoped to have enough to can. Oh well, there is always next year.

I wanted to plant some "heat resistant" tomatoes so we would have tomatoes until frost in the fall, but have been unable to find any around here this year.

I took one of the kittens to a widower who lives in the country & goes to our church (he wanted 2, but I was only able to catch 1).....will try to get another one for him in the next few days. They are almost 11 weeks old now. There is one that is real easy for me to pick up & love on, but I have promised her to another friend.

I love gardening too but I live in a studio apartment with a big concrete patio. Yesterday I bought a little baby pool and filled it up with potting soil on my patio. I have one cherry tomato plant but plan on getting a few other plants too:)

I can't think of anything I love to do more than gardening. I had a complete right knee replacement 4 years ago and it has changed my ability to get right down among the plants, but it hasn't stopped me from being out there. I still garden.........I just do it differently. And it is good exercise too.......a bonus. emoticon

I enjoy gardening too. This week has been rough. I had to have my boys water the garden & no one has raked it but with the lack of rain, I don't think the weeds are doing much. I'm waiting for my neck/shoulder to heal before I get out there again. I'm growing kale this year for the first time & can't wait to try out a new recipe. Fresh veggies are the BEST!!

That's so wonderful that you can your harvest. I bet you enjoy your bounty all winter long!!

OBSERVATIONS ON GROWING OLDER

Friday, June 29, 2012

TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN,

YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE,

SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

Observations on Growing Older

~Your kids are becoming you...and you don't like them...

but your grandchildren are perfect!

~Going out is good...Coming home is better!

~When people say you look "Great"... they add "for your age!"

~When you needed the discount, you paid full price.
Now you get discounts on everything...movies, hotels,

flights, but you're too tired to use them.

~You forget names.... but it's OK because other people

forgot they even knew you!!!

~The five pounds you wanted to lose is now 15 and you

have a better chance of losing your keys than the 15 pounds.

~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything....

especially golf.

~Your spouse is counting on you to remember things

you don't remember.

~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do,

but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.

~Your spouse sleeps better on a lounge chair with the TV

blaring than he or she does in bed. It's called their "pre-sleep."

~Remember when your mother said, "Wear clean underwear

in case you GET in an accident?"
Now you bring clean underwear in case you HAVE an accident!

~You used to say, "I hope my kids GET married...Now,

"I hope they STAY married!"

~You miss the days when everything worked with just

an "ON" and "OFF" switch...

~When GOOGLE, ipod, email, modem....were unheard of, and

a mouse was something that made you climb on a table.

~You tend to use more four letter words "what?" "when?"???

~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry,

it's not safe to wear it anywhere.

~Your husband/wife has a night out with the guys or gals but

is home by 9:00 P.M. Next week it will be 8:30 P.M.

~You read 100 pages into a book before you realize you've read it.

~Notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless!"

~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

~Everybody whispers.

~Now that your spouse has retired ... you'd give anything

if he/she would find a job!

~You have three sizes of clothes in your closet ...

two of which you will never wear.

~But old is good in some things: old songs, old movies,
And best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!

Gardening & Problems Loading Kitties Pictures

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

For some reason I cannot load another kittie picture....been trying for days. I may have to load my camera on my other computer & try it from there.

This morning I plowed the remainder of the garden (by hand with a 3-prong rake) where the potatoes were (I dug them last week), leveled it with a rake (upside down) & planted 2 rows of yellow wax beans. I also pulled my 4 rows of onions as they had done all they were going to do. Worse crop of onions ever!! I think my fertilizer was too old, so I got new sack & we will see with the wax beans. Tomatoes are blooming & putting on small tomatoes.
I picked my 1st cucumber this morning & am looking forward to having it with lunch. I also have small bell peppers (about like a golf ball right now).

There is nothing like growing your own vegetables, but it is a lot of work. My DH used to be a big help (he is still my "adviser") but is unable to physical work anymore so it is up to me.

Have a great day. I have rambled long enough.

A Prayer For An Exercise Dropout

Monday, May 28, 2012

A Prayer for an Exercise Dropout

Oh Lord, I reflect on the words of Isaiah,
“Those who wait for the Lord
Shall renew your strength,
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31)

For too long, oh Lord, I have not
Walked, run, or exercised enough,
Always having a perfectly good reason
Why my day is too full to include one more thing.
Today, I affirm, through your love for me,
A renewed spirit that resolves to start again.
If I cannot immediately soar with eagles’ wings,
Let me at least march
With a penguin’s steadfastness.
Amen.

From Grace on the Go: Quick Prayers for Determined Dieters by Barbara Bartocci. Morehouse Publishing Incorporated © 2008

This was one of 18 Prayers For Dieters & can be found at guideposts.org/dietprayers.
I love my Guideposts magazine & read it from cover to cover when it arrives in the mail, but guideposts.org is also on the internet. Check it out. Amazing uplifting stories, etc.

This one about exercise hit me "between the eyes" this morning. I seem to justify to myself that I am too busy, stressed, tired, etc. to exercise today, or will start tomorrow. Hope you enjoy it.
