12 reasons SP is better than Weight Watchers

Friday, December 24, 2010

If you have seen my Spark Page, you know that I am a WW Lifetime member who gained back the weight (and then some) when I moved where there were no WW meetings, and was unable to walk my 3 miles a day because we lived next to a 4 lane highway. I joined SP 3-1/2 months ago and this is why I think it is better than WW:
1. Need motivation? Log on to SP and read numerous motivation articles and member success blogs.
2. Need information about caloric values in foods? It is all on SP at a "clicks" notice.
3. Need tracking for you food? Go to nutrition page and enter it.
4. Need help keeping track of daily water consumption? Look on nutrition page and enter.
5. Need to "vent" about personal problems? Blog about it and expect to hear from SP friends,
6. Need help with exercises? SP has numerous exercises with demonstrations.
7. Need to join a team? Too numerous to count teams to pick from on SP.
8. Need to get free help? SP at your service...no dues, etc,
9. Need help finding recipes? SP will be there.
10. Need health articles about specific p0roblems? SP has them.
11. Need help "anytime"? SP will be there during "your time" 24/7.
12. Need an appointment calendar? SP has a good one.

I could not list everything (like earning Spark Points, etc.) but you get the idea, and it is all available FREE 24/7. What more could you ask for?

Spot ON! Weight Loss programs should be easy, intuitive, and user-friendly. SP definitely delivers on these and more.

You are more right than you know! I joined WW for the first time after my son was born 18 years ago. I had great leaders, so/so leaders and plain bad ones. I did WW at Work even! I know the nutrition is sound but for the price, you should get a lot more. If we had to pay for Sparkpeople, and pay what it's worth...well I know I couldn't put a dollar amount on that. Happy Holidays to you and thank you for reminding me how lucky I was to find SP!

Interest vs Commitment

Monday, December 20, 2010

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you are interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results. Kenneth Blanchard

Wow, what mouthful. This was on one of the SP pages this morning and got me to thinking. I am guilty of both at times. I really need to exercise in the mornings as by afternoon my energy runs down, but I find myself at times putting it off to the afternoon (and then sometimes not getting it done). Now I guess I will set a "time" each morning as my exercise time and baring emergencies, stop whatever I am doing and go do it.

Are you interested in SP or committed to SP?

Do you know the egg and ham story?

The barn animals decide to do something nice for the farmer one day to thank him for all he does for them. They decide to make a nice meal and suggests breakfast, ham and eggs. They all agree but the pig. The chicken chides him say hey I'm willing to give up my eggs!! The pig says yeah, but you are just an interested party. For me it's a total commitment!

oh my .... my knee jerk reaction is to vehemently exclaim, "Of course I'm committed; I'm here aren't I?" but ummm ..... your blog really hit home & I have to be honest with myself (painful as that may be) that I've just been "playing" at this journey.

thanks for writing this.

Busy next 6 days

Sunday, December 19, 2010

After making lists today: 1 for grocery shopping tomorrow and about 10 other stops for various reasons, 1 for the Christmas meal on Saturday, 1 for the days I will fix each food, and 1 for the several phone calls to make tomorrow, I am tired. emoticon

As you can see I am a "list maker" and the accomplishments come as I am able to cross off each thing on my list. Whew.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

I totally understand - I'm a list maker too! It helps me be organized and not forget things. I usually have such a long list, though, that I identify 4-5 non-negociables that have to be done by the end of the day. Stops it from being too overwhelming!

3 Month SparkVersary/Progress & Plan

Saturday, December 18, 2010

It has been 3 months since I joined SP after finding this site by accident. What a great "accident". I have lost 15 pounds (35 more to go) and made many friends along the way. I am enjoying the articles, success stories, motivational tips, exercise choices, etc. Everyday I learn something new (or refresh what I already knew) about food choices, health problems and trying new recipes.

I have lost inches (as my baggy clothes can attest), but I only started measuring about a month ago so do not know exactly how many. I really did not want to see the measuring tape numbers when I started.

This journey will continue and I will not concentrate on the 35 pounds, but only 5 pounds at a time, then another 5, then another 5, etc. Positive thinking will take place along with much support from Spark friends.

Lost without SP and e-mail

Friday, December 17, 2010

I have been without internet access since early Monday morning when my satellite quit. Finally got a repairman here Wed. and he came back this morning and I "up-graded" to newer dish and modem. I kept up with what I ate and water consumption and will now go back and fill in the days.

I have missed all of you!! Glad to be back. emoticon
