My Favorite Animal

Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken.."
She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else in the class laughed.
My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA.
He said they love animals very much.
I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again.
The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was.
I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children.
So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken.
She sent me back to the principal's office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most.

I told her, "Colonel Sanders."
Guess where I am now.

I Survived Another 5K!! DH status also here.

Monday, September 19, 2011

I had a great time Saturday! DD, DGS, DGS's fiancÚ and I walked in the 5K Susan Komen Walk for breast cancer (with about 10,000 other people). We walked about a mile from where we had to park to the starting line...so I figure we walked at least 4.1 miles. emoticon I "led the pack" of the 4 of us as DD said. It was much easier this year than last.....I could have gone farther. Think it was because I was carrying 32 lbs. less than last year???? emoticon Will post pictures when I get them from DD and DGS.

After the walk we went downtown to the Boardwalk (shopping center by the river), shopped a little and ate. Wonderful day in all.

DH is doing well. He saw the surgeon last week for the 1st time since he had the ablation of 3 veins in his legs. Tests showed everything was fine. He has to wear compression hose 24/7 for the next 3 weeks until the next doctor visit. Then he will still have to wear the hose probably just daytime for a while. Doctor said it will take 2-3 months to see maximal improvement in the edema of the legs as they are the last thing to change after the surgery.

Today I go back in training for the 5K walking program. Still have to get the multiplying onions planted and the porch painted.

Happy Sparking everyone!! emoticon

TABLE MANNERS (joke of the day)

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

A man and woman were having dinner in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands. Their waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the man slowly sliding down his chair and under the table, but the woman acted unconcerned.

The waitress watched as the man slid all the way down his chair and out of sight under the table. Still, the woman appeared calm and unruffled, apparently unaware her dining companion had disappeared.

The waitress went over to the table and said to the woman, "Pardon me, ma'am, but I think your husband just slid under the table.

The woman calmly looked up at her and said, "No, he didn't. He just walked in."

One Year SparkVersary today & DH status

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

One year ago today I found SP quite by accident. I had been overweight for some time & was looking for a height/weight chart on the net. Talk about good luck!!

During the past year I have lost many inches (not sure how many because I regrettably did not measure when I started), 30 pounds, my prediabetes status, my idea that this was just another "diet" and I would try it for a little while etc. I have "found" so much more! Lots of new Spark buddies across the globe, numerous recipes, new information about good health, eating right, exercises, challenges, support & encouragement, etc.

This has become a lifestyle & not another diet for me. I still crave sweets or high calorie foods (and occasionally give in to small amounts of them), but have learned not to quit the program, but just pick up & go on. I religiously use the food tracker, but need to measure & weigh food more than I do as my eyes tend to "lie" to me. I walk on the treadmill & sometimes with Leslie, but do not do enough ST. I need to work on this. I cannot do a lot of the exercises that I really need to because of my arthritis & bursitis pain.

Saturday is the 5K walk for breast cancer with my DD, GS & his fiancÚ. Hope to make pictures & will post next week.

DH had a restless night & we ended up trying to sleep in our recliners. (I would not stay in bed after he left so I could keep an eye on him....we live in a 2 story house). He says he looks like & feels like a mummy. This is true as they have both legs wrapped in Ace bandages from the top of his thighs to his toes. I will remove the thigh parts tomorrow & we go back to the doctor's office on Friday where they will remove the lower part & put compression hose on him. He will have to wear these several weeks.

Thank all of you for the prayers, concerns & good thoughts sent our way. SP are the best!!

Have a Spark filled day!!!!

Happy Anniversary! I walk with Leslie because I live in Texas and we can't even breathe outside because of the heat. I do chair exercises to Anne Burnell DVDs.
You can see a sample of them on Stronger Seniors Team page. They really give you a good workout while sitting.
Thoughts and prayers coming to you and your DH for fast recovery!

We share the same anniversary - September. I actually joined the previous May, but didn't even log in again till September. Frankly, I've lost NO weight, but I'm still in better health than I was before. Well, I actually lost almost 10 lbs., then gained it back again. My eating habits have been very healthy for a long time, except for desserts.... very fattening desserts. I used to indulge only when I ate out, but eating out was a rarity. Now we eat out too much. More changing of the way I think.... but I will win this battle with myself.

Busy, busy week ahead.....

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Today I start Week 3 of my 5K Training program. Plan to walk 30minutes today, 2 miles on Tuesday & 2,25 in Thursday.

Tomorrow (Mon.) DH will have procedure in hospital as outpatient for help with his edema in lower extremities (nothing else has helped & vascular surgeon said this would improve 85-90 %). His feet swell so bad he cannot wear shoes & it is very painful to walk. We have to be there at 5:30 AM & we live 60 miles (over an hour drive one way). He will be outpatient & should come home same day. Please say prayers for him & the surgeon.

Tuesday will do my best to get our multiplying onions planted in our garden. Tuesday is my OneYear Sparkversary too!!

Hope to rest a little Thursday or may start painting on porch project.

Friday is open & will probably be a trip to town for groceries & medicines.

Saturday is the BIG day!! My daughter & I have been walking in the 5K Susan Komen Cancer walk for the past 3 years..she started walking 2 years before I did. This year my grandson & his fiancÚ will walk with us!! I am so excited about this....Hope I can keep up with the "youngsters"! emoticon

I hope you are flying your flags today in remembrance of 09/11/2001. I am.

God bless America and Spark on!!
