As many of you know I have been experiencing severe pain from bilateral trochanteric bursitis. I was in week 3 of my 5K Training Program when the pain got so bad I was not sleeping and could sit only for a short time. I went to the doctor & got a steroid shot in each hip which helped some but it is slow in getting better so I quit the walking program for now. I think the trigger was the fact that I was walking faster for short times on the treadmill and then "normal" speed to try and get off this plateau that I have been on for so long. Anyway, I have had this pain for years & most of the time it is bearable, but occasionally rears it's ugly head and really sets me for a twist!

Yesterday I weighed & had lost 2 lbs. I told myself it was just a fluke & waited until today to see. Today I am down 2 lbs. emoticon so I put it down on my tracker. I need to lose 1 more lb. & I will put 30 lbs. lost on my Spark Page!!

I miss walking & hope to gradually get back to it soon. I have a 5K next month to do with my daughter for the Susan Komen Cancer Walk.

    Time to take a liquid form of glucosamine/chrondrotin, with MSM. ALSO make sure you get in as much antioxidants as possible, as they are what is needed to keep this kind of thing from happening. Steroids are good for a one time thing, BUT they actually cause problems in the long run!

This is what the PA at my doctor's office said I had yesterday after thorough examination. I have read up on it today on the internet & I agree with her. She gave me a steroid shot in each side of my hip in the bursa sac region. Ouch!! When she mashed on me to find the exact spot for the needle, that hurt worse than the actual shot. Felt better pretty quick, but as she said I would be hurting again by bedtime.....and I was! Another partial sleepless night. It will get better gradually over the next few days. I am just hoping for some sleep tonight.

No walking for me (or very little) until I get this under control.....sure will mess up my training program for the 5K cancer walk next month.....Oh, well.....when I am better will get back on the treadmill. Right now am tired of all this pain.

    I hope the shots give you relief! Take it easy for now & jump back in when you're ready. There's no sense in overdoing it & being in pain. Feel better soon!!

    Oh, so sorry this is acting up. Can you take a pain pill or sleeping pill to get some rest. I pray it will end quickly so that you can get back to a full healing of the hip.

    I have that in my right hip and it's flared up the three time this year that I tried to take up running. I even blogged here about it. I can walk just fine but I find that this bursitis is a b**ch!

Hope you feel better soon. Having it in both hips must be painful!

Osteoarthritis pain.....part 2

Slept very little last night due to pain...up since 2:30 AM. Last night in bed I could feel the pain in my left hip, lower part of my back & some in my left leg to ankle. Will call doctor 1st thing in the morning & see when I can get in to see her.

I was supposed to walk 2.25 miles yesterday to finish week 3 of the 5K Training program. I got on the treadmill & walked about 4 minutes (slowly) & decided it was not worth the pain since at that time I was feeling a little better. Tomorrow (hopefully, if I feel like it) I will start a repeat of week 3.

    I hope that the DR. can help you find some relief. My walks are limited so I admire you for doing so much. My PT reminds me to do little movements instead of trying big ones. I found a back wrap that I can heat in the microwave that seems to help a lot. emoticon

Osteoarthritis Pain....please go away!

I am in Week 3 of my 5K Walking Program & need to walk 2.25 miles today. Since I have had bad pain for the last 2 days (& lost sleep nights), I will try & do the walk on my treadmill, but will be in a slower pace. I have osteoarthritis in both hips & lower back. Usually when I get up in the morning & move around it gets better, but the last 2 days have been real "stinkers" for pain.

During my walks the last 3 weeks I have walked 2.5 MPH & then kicked it up to 3 MPH for a few minutes & then back to try & get me out of this plateau that I seem to be in. If the pain is still intense Monday, I will try & get an appointment with my primary & get shots in each hip. I did this a year ago & they really helped.

    To me you are a rock star b/c I have osteoarthritis as well in both knees, hips and back, well back is really Degenerative Disc Disease. I digress, I can literally walk 5 mins and have to sit down to rest my knees and back, as they begin to spasm on me. And I am on two differnt pain meds. Geez!

You go and do what you can. Good job!

    My thoughts and prayers and admiration go out to you. I have spinal and sciatic OA and know how painful that walking can be. It is very hard to get past the plateaus when it is so painful to move. I hope that you are feeling better soon. emoticon Gentle hugs

I have cortisone shots in my back, but finally had to have a total hip replacement three years ago. Things have been great since!
