The Working End of the Hoe and Rake

Just got back from our small garden after: pulling up dead tomato plants (they froze last week even after covering with sheets and I had pulled all the green tomatoes off just in case..gave some to a neighbor, some to SIL and kept some), pulled up the dead okra plants, bell pepper plants, and jalapeņo plants, used the hoe on some grass that was growing between the rows of multiplying onions and hoed the grass and weeds left. Next came the raking and piling of dead plants to be burned later. We still have turnips and greens to eat in the garden in addition to the onions.

Wheew!! My back thanked me when I finally quit. My DH used to do the gardening, but is unable to any more so I do what I can. We love fresh vegetables and I can and freeze every year. (helps with the grocery bill and we KNOW how they were raised). In January we will plant large onion sets and potatoes in Feb.

Burned lots of calories anyway. Hope everyone has a Super Saturday.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and was facing surgery (lumpectomy), I visualized over and over the cancer getting taken out of my body, put in a garbage can, and then I "kicked it to the curb". I am a 2 year survivor and doing great.

Every morning I look in the mirror and say these 3 lines:
1. I look good.
2. I feel good.
3. I weight 145 pounds.
Now if you have seen my Spark Page, you know this is not true (NOT YET anyway!), but I know in time it will be true if I keep moving toward my final goal.

Do not get discouraged at minor setbacks in your exercise routine or scale numbers, fight back with positive thinking and consistency.

Cake and goodies gone...weight the same

DH wanted me to put top of anniversary cake in freezer for our 75th anniversary in 25 more years, but I said "No, I want a new cake for our 75th!!" Anyway the top is in the freezer (will take out for company sometime). The goodies are gone (did keep some fresh fruit). Thank goodness, I managed to stay the same weight as last week (the cake was delicious!).

DD took care of the food and cake, and new dil did all the decorations. As soon as I get more pictures I will post on my Spark Page. Good turnout of family and friends and very nice gifts.

Thanks to all the wellwishers. Now time to get back to SP work and a lower number on the scale.

Knee issues and birthday wishes

First let me thank all of you for my birthday wishes and Spark Goodies. It really brightened my day!

Hope to get back on the treadmill after a 3 day layoff. I managed to twist my right knee the other day (standing still and turned to move, but my foot stayed on the floor and knee twisted...ouch). Have been putting heat on it and it is not 100%, but much better. Walking seems to be ok now, but steps are painful (and I live in a 2-story house).

    Good for you for taking it easy. If you decide to try the treadmill, I know you will be sensible and STOP if there is PAIN. Discomfort that might walk itself out, maybe but see how it feels. It's sure not worth being laid up for a time. Brenda

Birthdays and buckling down with SP

Today is another milestone for me............I am 68 years old. Sometimes I feel it, or older or younger. (depends on the day) emoticon

I did manage to maintain my weight from last week, so now is the time to "buckle down" and start losing again. The Thanksgiving leftovers are gone and I have been checking new SP recipes to try.

Picked up some 3 lb. weights in Wal-Mart on sale, will finish pumping up my exercise ball today (started last week and most of the air came back out since I did not finish and secure ball), and watch video that came with the kit.

Hope all my SP buddies have a "losing" week.

    Hooray for 'gone" left overs. You will really enjoy the ball. I know my dau uses hers for a chair at computer some and they keep in living room to use during commercials. I am really getting exercise from balancing. They say any weight training you do is harder thus you work more and BURN MORE CALORIES!! I have 5# weights that I use for my strength training. I'm convinced that is one of the ways I lost at my standstill. I just continued them 3 times a week; sometimes just twice but they really helped. Surprised me!! Others said they tho't I looked thinned, I guess SHAPELIER!!!! HA.HA
