The weeds get a reprieve

Sunday, April 10, 2011

After pulling tall clumps of weeds (and shaking to try and get the dirt to come off) yesterday in the garden, I had good intentions to finish the job today after church. My back, before I even got out of bed, said "absolutely not!!". Therefore, the weeds will get a reprieve for a couple of more days. Oh well, today is supposed to be my "rest day" anyway.

Once the weeds are removed and some compost added to this part of our garden, I will plant tomatoes and peppers in this spot.

Have a Sparking Sunday and go to church if you can.

Believe me I know that feeling. I haven't been able to get out in the yard/garden yet but I know I'll over do it the first time out. Take care of yourself!!!

The problem with weeds is they never give up, in fact I am sure they spend the nights
multiplying. Still it gives us a sense of satisfaction to see a nice patch ready for

Went to church last night.!!

Traveling in the car with DH, again

Friday, April 08, 2011

After buying a new battery and deciding the other "incidents" were flukes, we again set out for the 60 mile trip (one way) to DH doctor on Wednesday. Before we left I told DH if he had anything to say about my car to say nice things emoticon as she is getting temperamental in her "senior years". Trip went fine.

Yesterday we set out again for the same trip (to have the 24 hr. heart monitor removed). Things went fine and gas mileage was over 27 MPG. Our pickup gets between 19 and 20 and with prices so high this has now become more important than ever.

Heart monitor readout was fine and now DH goes back to his other cardiologist the 20th of this month which is 100 miles from here.

Glad to hear your car cooperated for your journey and DH's test turned out okay. When I had my last 24-hour test I thought there has to be a better way than visiting the doctors office to have the monitor put on and taken off and I didn't have to drive 120 miles for it. LOL Please stay safe in all your travels!!!

I'm sorry you have such long journeys to see doctors, with the internet it should be possible to get tests done locally and the results sent to him.
Good luck for the weight loss journey!

DH hates my car and the feeling is mutual!

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Yesterday we never did get to the doctor's office for the heart monitor to be placed on DH.
We have been trying to use my car (old and with a lot of miles, but gets better gas mileage than our pickup) for trips and left on our trip in the car. The gas gage is not working and says "empty" even after I put gas in it.

First stop was our pharmacy to pick up medicine before leaving town. Car did not want to start when leaving here. Finally started after 3rd try. We left for out of town doctor office. Decided to stop about 1/2 way there and get the battery checked before turning off motor to get gas. Almost did not go in reverse when leaving. (tire place and they could not check battery). That is when DH said "Let's just go home and reschedule appointment for another day and go in truck", so this is what we did.

My car works fine when I get in it (it got me to job for 8 years driving 120 miles daily), but every time DH gets in it (driving or riding) something happens. He said, "I never have liked this car" and apparently the feeling is mutual. emoticon

By the way, when we got home I checked going in reverse (fine), and it started fine every time I turned the motor off. I think these happenings were a "fluke". However, the gas gage is not working so will have my fuses checked while I am in town today.

I've never heard of a car acting up when a particular person is in it, it's kind of funny, though I'm sure it wasn't yesterday. Hope you get to the appointment fine in the future and that your car gets fixed. Take Care!

I know the feeling. I love my Jeep but every now and then I lose all the gauges even the speedometer so I can't tell how fast I'm going. Sometimes the gauges are out for a few miles and other times it's a few days. There is no rhyme or reason to it. The dealership has replaced a modular 3 or 4 times and it still happens occasionally.

Bless your heart! My car was almost like that. It would mess up around me but when I got others in the car, even the mechanic, it wouldn't do it until I was with a friend and we got stranded at a restaurant for 3 hours. I hope they find out what is wrong soon so your husband will be "comfortable" riding in it.

I trained for and walked the 5 K and lived to tell about it!

Sunday, April 03, 2011

Last Friday I walked the 5 K (3.1 miles) without stopping. I know that I went the entire distance because my treadmill readout said so. The training wasn't bad, and definitely helped my cardio miles. Finishing a challenge such as this gives a sense of accomplishment too.

Now I have signed up for the Walking With Leslie Challenge and will see how this goes (although I am a little tired of the DVD that I have, "5 mile fat burning walk" and cannot buy another one at this time). I checked with the library and they only have 1 other Leslie DVD (using a band) and it is in another town. May have to ask them to get it. Has anyone used this one and how was it?

Everyone have a great and safe weekend.

1st: Congratulations on completing the 5K walking program.
Didn't you feel like you accomplished a major feat?

2nd: I would like to try the "Walking with Leslie Challenge."
I also did the 5K walking program on the treadmill and it
took me 66 minutes. It was a good challenge and I'm happy
that I did it.

I have a few Leslie DVDs & videos but not the one with the band. sorry.

Sister Mary Ann's Gasoline (Joke)

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Sister Mary Ann, who worked for a home health agency, was out making her rounds visiting homebound patients when she ran out of gas As luck would have it, a Texaco Gasoline station was just a block away.

She walked to the station to borrow a gas can and buy some gas. The attendant told her that the only gas can he owned had been loaned out, but she could wait until it was returned. Since Sister Mary Ann was on the way to see a patient, she decided not to wait and walked back to her car.
She looked for something in her car that she could fill with gas and spotted the bedpan she was taking to the patient. Always resourceful, Sister Mary Ann carried the bedpan to the station, filled it with gasoline, and carried the full bedpan back to her car.

As she was pouring the gas into her tank, two Baptists watched from across the street.. One of them turned to the other and said,

'If it starts, I'm turning Catholic.'!!
