Labor Day

Monday, September 03, 2007

I think this quote fits Labor Day---

"If you want it, you must obtain it by great labour." T.S. Eliot (American-born English poet and man of letters (1888-1965)

I want this weight loss and I really feel the great "labour" that it takes to attain it. But together, we can!

Fantastic quote. I shall save it in my book of quotes that I keep. This would be great on a scrapbook layout for our weight loss journals. Shirley

Compentent?

Sunday, September 02, 2007

This week I helped the U.S. Postal service in an investigation of counterfeit money orders. I received an e-mail from a "Frank Morris" stating that a package had been sent to my house by FedEx. Sure enough a package arrived, with four counterfeit money orders in the amount of $620.10 each. I also received a phone call and e-mail instructions to cash the money orders, keep 10% and wire the rest of the money to an address given in the e-mail. When I sent an e-mail back telling the writer that I had turned everything over to the post office, I received an e-mail claiming my competence was not acceptable and I would have to "proove" myself by this coming Monday. I was also accused of trying to keep the man's money (counterfeit money orders?) and he sent a threatening e-mail saying he would be watching me. Whatever! I am eager to see him photo on the news when the postal inspectors catch up with him. Remember, if it's too good to be true---it is. He never should have sent the fake money orders to an artist, who works for law enforcement and the newspaper...they were good, but not that good.

Diana, we have also had to deal with that here, there have been so many senior citizens taken in by these con artists, it really is a shame. It is on the news at least once a week warning people.
Hope that they get them. Keep us posted on how it plays out.

I am constantly telling my Dad's companion, Mae that if the offers for money she gets in the mail sound too good to be true..........throw them in the garbage. It's a shame that people prey on the elderly. After my mother died I had to sit my Dad down and explain to him about not giving out any vital information, SS#, driver's license #, etc. to people that called on the phone. Dad is hard of hearing and even with hearing aids he sometimes misunderstands people on the phone. I sure hope they catch the jerk that sent you the phony money orders. My husband worked in the Security field for years so we are very cautious. Shirley

Too Many Things To Do!

Saturday, August 18, 2007

Today I am doing what I learned April 22, 2005 to pace myself.
Our house was foreclosed on after medical bills caused us to get way behind. Wednesday, August 15 at 1:45 pm, the real estate agent gave me 24 hours to get everything out of the house because he was going to have the locks changed on the house. My husband just had a joint replacement July 20th and could not help me. (He was so upset and felt so useless. He called a co-worker at the sheriff's office and told her what was going on...she told him it wasn't legal for the real estate to do that without eviction papers being served, but we just didn't want to deal with this man anymore than we had to, so she said she would help after she got off work at 4pm. The sheriff directed me to go get his pick-up to use instead of my little car.) To my surprise, the head dispatcher, sheriff's deputy and his wife and a city police officer all showed up with pick-ups and we worked fast. They guys had to leave at 6:30 to play baseball in a neighboring town and the head dispatcher had to go to Wal Mart in another town for a little bit. I was ordered to go home and cool off and rest until she got back. At 9:45 she called and said she was on her way to meet me to finish up. The deputy stopped after they won their ballgame to help us finish and we quit at 1:30 am. (I had to teach in-service the next morning at 8am and the others had to be at work at 8am also. We didn't get everything....but we did get the most important things. The head dispatcher lost her daughter, who was my daughter's best friend, in a car accident and she we determined to get all of my daughter's stuff out of the house. She was delighted to see how many pictures I have of the two girls that she didn't have. So, we are going to get together this winter and go through pictures. My husband was so worried that I was going to die in the heat and activity.
So, today, I am mowing the lawn with a push mower in quarters. I usually get done in a couple of hours. But today I am pacing myself. I sectioned it into four sections and mower for 1/2 hour and take a 15 min. break. My husband is happy and I am learning how to pace. This is very hard for me, but after getting sick Wednesday from pushing it, I am trying! Oh, I am drinking my water too.

One day at a time. Remember, this too will pass.

What a blessing FRIENDS are! I am just so blessed to have so many friends. I have way more friends than anyone deserves, but I will keep everyone of you!!!

Diana, Sorry that you and your husband are going through this stressful time in your lives. I understand totally about medical bills. Even if you have insurance they can overpower you. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers. Hugs, Shirley

I was going through the sparkpeople teams to see which one I would be interested in joining and as an ex-ems employee (dispatcher) for the sheriff's dept. I clicked on your photo and we both have the same first name, coincidence. So I decided to read your blog. It was very moving. Depressing because it reminded me of the same stories I used to hear from other dispatchers and their own trials in life they were experiencing. I would be in awe wondering how these individuals dealt with so much and still were able to work in an environment that was extremely stressful and were able to help others even though they were in need themselves. You are truly blessed when you can think positive to overcome a lesson in life that one might not want to experience but has to move forward to reach the next chapter. With so many friends and loved ones by your side it could only get better. Stay healthy physically, mentally and spiritually.

Diana I'm so sorry that you had to go thru all of that rushing around in the heat, but what wonderful friends you and your husband have to make time to help you out like that, they say what goes around comes around and that real estate agent will get his one day, hopefully sooner than later LOL
Hope you didn't overdo it, please take care of yourself and Mike of coarse.

Love and Hugs...........Sherye

Another Birthday

Sunday, July 29, 2007

July 29 is the anniversary of my birth. Today I am the same age as my husband, but only until August 28 when he has another birthday. As I reflect over the last 53 years, I am pleased and feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, especially the last few months on SparkPeople. I have truly been blessed with family, friends and co-workers who are wonderful people to be around. I thank God for these opportunities.

Life is Not Easy

Sunday, July 29, 2007

"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance...and confidence in ourselves." Marie Curie (1867-1934)

I have been reminded of this quote so many times this last month. The true victory is for those who endure to the end. I am trying to endure to the end, and with God's help, I know I can.

I love this quote. Marie Curie did not have an easy life....she had a great life, but it was not easy. Happy birthday.....and many, many more. I am also a nurse, but had to retire with MS a few years ago. God is with you every step of the way. hang in.......
