My Experiments

Thursday, July 01, 2010

I tried eating SUPERBLY well meeting all nutrient goals.
I tried getting my max of water daily.
I tried getting my max of fiber daily.
I tried working out every day.

And I found that if you only do one of the above really well. I won't succeed in my weight loss goals. It takes a lot to structure your day to make sure you meet one of these goals. The only thing that seems to get immediate fast results is a FAD Diet or one of those strict diets people take prior surgery.

Real achievement to long term health seems to be that you HAVE to make eating really well hitting your nutrient markers, drinking water and exercising. A FAD diet will have FAD results. I guess now that I tried spending chunks of time working on one area really well, now I have to find a way to integrate these aspects to meet any of my weight loss goals.

Maybe this time I can finally get on the right road to health, well being and a harmonized and tuned up body.

Small steps, one at a time – as you noted yesterday, a habit takes 3 weeks to establish, and persistence to maintain. A strong vision helps with motivation and managing adversities.

I read an interesting article on changing food habits that suggested changing one meal a week, starting with breakfast, adding more whole grains, fruits and vegetables, balancing nutrients, reducing calories, and finding better substitutes. The Nutrition Tracker makes that pretty easy.

Developing an exercise program is similar, walking 10 minutes daily, adding 5 minutes a week, adding stretches and short strength sessions of light intensity, increasing as the habit becomes established.

Creating a daily structure to accommodate a healthy lifestyle is a slow process as well.

A Tony Robbins tool I really like is to imagine and write down a “Perfect Day”, working on one element at a time. Computer “Cut and Paste” makes it easy to modify the Plan.

Steven Covey's weekly planner shows how one can take care of all of the important stuff, and still have plenty of room for spontaneous activities, without being rigid.

I admire your ongoing efforts to find fulfillment in developing a healthy lifestyle. You have inspired me to get back on track, after some setbacks!

Thanks for your comment on my Page., and for sharing your journey. emoticon

Maybe (just like my problem) you could master one at a time and the others will follow so right now master eating right (since I think thats the biggest obstacle and the biggest variable in weight loss) and then go to working out which will help with the water intake think of it as a pyramid!

The Training Diaries - Phase Five

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Phase 5: July 1 - 14

To Accomplish in this phase:

~~ Daily Exercise
~~ Daily Writing
~~ Continue smoothie, breakfast and good food
~~ Complete watching spending and tracking
~~ Find a way to recenter and reset for Phase 6

It takes 21 days to establish a habit.

I am 15 days into smoothie, breakfast and good food habit.
By my birthday I can be 30 days into smoothie, 14 days into writing and exercise habit.

It takes your brain 3 months to register vitamins and to raise omega levels in system.

By September I can be much healthier and on a best track for self fulfillment.

Motivation and Relaxation

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

I have been feeling completely boxed in, trapped without a way out for years to come, no sun poking through and each time I try to succeed in spite of it all, I get another wack upside the head.

I just realized I have 2.5 days of work, 3 off, 3.5 work, 5.5 days off. I haven't had 5.5 days off in such a long time. I have to share it and some really intense hell is coming that week for my birthday *YEAH* but....

Maybe in this time I can find a way to pay the pied piper and be okay with it.
To find a way to stay on track and find some inspiration to even try another day.

I am scared, alone and sometimes it feels heavy like the only thing that might give me a way out is the last road out.

I want to be all the things I think I could be, people say I could be and that I can feel when the world isn't sitting on me screaming SAY UNCLE.

I want this. It is not even a burning desire anymore. It is the only option.

Cold Hard Truth. Life will either continue to suck and I will wallow forcing myself to keep going or I will finally reach those goals and see the other side.

Either way, I am not easing up pressure. I am not going to take the hot rod off my back.
I will show the universe there is more to me and somehow someway I will find that path and if not, I will die trying. Nothing but bleak in my front sight but I am open enough to know... My sight is not always an objective, honest thing.

I will not allow pain nor my emotions take the whip off.

I just realized I only have a few days to make my desk the way I wanted it to look on 1/1/10. hopefully this will give me courage to rise above and push back.

Life, Vita-Pee, Status

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Ever have so many ideas in your head and you think, I will blog that, oh and that and that and this will be my new format.... Weeks later you have all this gunk in your head with all of these should ofs, wishes and you miss a lot of good reflection and real growth moments.

I have to work on that. I have to accept Erica in this moment. Who cares about the right picture, right emoticon, perfect sentence, perfect format, just get it out!

Today is 14 days of smoothies, choosing right foods, drinking more water and a bit more discipline in sleep and how I spend my "off" time.

I have NEVER in my life: I never had a bowel movement each day for 14 days, sometimes 2x and one day I had 3. Healthy, Large #2's. You would think with all the fruit and veges it would be loose. NOPE! The last time this happened I was in diapers. I am completely amazed.

I, of course, tried eating clean and just eating fruits and veges but I still never had #2 streak like this. I have tried stool softeners and cleanses - again nothing.

And today I had my first Vita-Pee. You know when it is that yellowy color from all the vitamins you are peeing out. I find it funny it took 2 weeks for me to have that. My food tracker has me hitting almost all my vitamin markers. My body has been probably screaming for joy at the vitamins and now they are all full now.

Of course, I am 2 weeks in and I am getting that... I don't see any results, this isn't working and life is pummelling me with issues, people, situations to just see me break.

I know from previous attempts this is a major hurdle and pushing through this will lead to a great new change and just because I can't see it or feel it or anything doesn't mean it isn't there.

I am trying to stay positive and hold on to the 14 day poo kick. I do feel internal changes happening like I am regrowing, reharmonizing, reorganizing the health.

Tonight I am going to see Twilight and I can't seem to get jazzed. I am sure I will with my friends by my side tonight.

I will not allow anything to sidestep me.
Breakdown each situation.
Break it all down.
Keep moving.

I will change this. I will have it all!
Whenever life gives me crap, I am going to suck it up and realize, I am better than you life.
And soon you will see it my way!

Most of these drinks end up being pinkish and then when you add the blackberries they are brown. Made with the ingredient breakdown it is a semi thick smoothie easy enough to drink and not runny. You can put it in the fridge and consume it a little later. I haven't tasted it after 12 hours of sitting, it is usually all gone.

Most of all, I had my mother taste them and she HATES health food. She loves them and keeps asking me to make more.

Also since my 3 days of taking them, I have had no cravings emoticon
My food decisions are easy emoticon
My skin is looking great emoticon
My intestinal tract is correcting itself in a gentle and regular way and nothing was this good not trying to add fruit or add more fiber or do cleanses. I am going to the bathroom after every big meal and this NEVER HAPPENED. emoticon
I have a lot more energy emoticon

I can't wait to see how much better I get!!!!

EDIT: I just found the RECIPE Section, I am going to put all my successful attempts there!

My DH and I found smoothies about 4 months ago and we totally love them. I do not add veggies to mine just fruit as we eat veggies at dinner every night now.

I am so glad you found them, they really are wonderful and I can't wait to see more of what you create.

Now I might add veggies into mine, kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak.

Great blog.

TurboGirl's Comment _ I accidentally deleted, YAY! Back Button!

" Wow! These sound great. I've heard of adding veggies to smoothies, but have never tried it. I love my post-workout smoothie of banana, plain yogurt, milk, and vanilla whey protein powder. I wonder if I could mix some veggies into it or if that would be weird.

Do you need a special blender to puree the veggies enough that there aren't chunks?? "

I've been drinking Dr. Oz's Magical Breakfast Blaster smoothie every day since February, and I LOVE it. I add two big handfuls of spinach to the recipe, and it really keeps the cravings away.

Can't wait to try these recipes! Thanks for posting them.
