I gained, but I loss!

The title can seem a bit confusing, so I have to explain. I was totally addicted to the scale, weighing my self everyday if not more than once. I was a cardio FREAK. Trying to get me to do strength....NO WAY emoticon

Even though I was losing the weight, I was very unhappy about my body(we are our worse critics). My SparkFriend NANCYANNE55 gave me some very good advice. The 1st thing she said was to ditch the scale....huh emoticon I can't hear you, say that again. Even though it took a lot out of me, I obliged.

So for the past two weeks, I have not stepped on the scale until today. It was so tempting to! I added more strength and HIIT training to my routine.

I was so ecstatic weeks ago that I was finally back in the 140s. Stepping on the scale this morning and seeing that I was back into the 150s did discourage me at first. Then a emoticon went off, "Destini, check your measurements!" Sure enough I lost 4.5inches. emoticon

Guess what that means.....I AM GAINING MUSCLE....YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon.

Bye bye emoticon, you are no longer the dictator in this relationship!

    So glad I could help! The scale is just one way of measuring your weight loss success, and it tells almost NOTHING about fat loss. I think measurements, how clothes fit, and most importantly, how you look in the mirror, are all much better indications of fat loss than what the scale says.

    Congratulations! Ridding yourself of the scale is such a great feeling! Weight is not as important as inches lost...sure we all LOVE to see the numbers go down on the scale, but it's not a good indicator of body fat lost. Bet your clothes are feeling a little bit looser...way to go!!!!!!

    I should get rid of mine, too! But I won't...I don't get tooooo hung up over it, because I do my measurements and they paint a different picture for me than the scale does. (usually in my favor!)
Good job!! 4.5 inches is AWESOME!!!!

Don't wait until New Years

I should have titled this, Don't weight until New Years. People put so much emphasis on making a goal for the New Year. I know its seems fitting, new year, new goals but why waste so much time instead of reaching for your goals NOW? emoticon

We all understand that this journey is not easy, but it is necessary! Sparkers, we have to utilize that motivation and drive that we have and bring others to the healthy side. I can have the worst day, but coming on SparkPeople gives me something I can not explain.

This site has truley been a blessing to me. To think, I stumbled across it on accident! emoticon. I am tearing up as I am writing this because all of you SparkFriends don't even know how much you have kept me uplifted. All though I may not know you personally, I love you all and thank you for comments and words of encouragement.

Take the time today to introduce at least one person to this site.
Don't wait until the New Year to give the gift of SparkPeople. Happy Holidays!!! emoticon

    This is cool. I actually joined Spark the first week in December because of a friend of mine. I've gone through the whole new years resolution BS too many times...they don't work. Much better to keep discipline throughout the holiday season than try to recover from it. emoticon

    I posted something similar as my Facebook status several weeks ago. Something like, "New Year's Resolutions are so stupid. Start now!!!" and my friend commented something like, "Because we only have one month left of pigging out and being lazy!" That's the p!ss-poor attitude of someone who does not have the drive or desire to succeed.

Sore knees

Ok so I have been doing the 30day shred and I'm on day 14, my knees are killing me. I don't know if this is fo me. I have never had issues with my knees even with running. Has anyone else had this issue?

    It bothered my knees a bit, but I would just modify the exercises as best as I could to accomodate. :-/ Dunno what to tell you....

    I've always had knee issues with anything - especially the shred!

p.s. - I think I'm going to spend a little more time on Level 2! Move on without me, but I don't think I'll be ready!

    I experienced the same thing with 30 day shread. When I first started it, I was about 30 lbs heavier so I thought it was just too much stress on my knees but I tried it again about a week ago and same thing. It's an awesome workout but not for my knees. I only do it every once in a while to switch up my routine now.

    I have had knee pain also but it went away after I bought a different pair of sneakers!! My podiatrist suggested an all around work out shoe instead of a walking or running shoe. Good luck!

    I had sore knees when I started doing hard core cardio kickboxing. The jumping really hurt my knees so I took it easy and did a little more jumping everytime I went and eventually my knees got better. No more sore knees. I would definitely check out the doctor as the previous poster mentioned. Day 14. You are almost there. emoticon

    I have that issue with the cold. My doctor had me lay on my back and do straight leg raises to build up some muscle. you might want to drop by your doctors and talk with him/her

Goodbye scale!!1

So after some GREAT advice from NancyAnne55 I have decided to take a break from the scale. I want to focus more on my shape and not my weight. I want to look 135lbs, but I don't necessarily have to be that.

Right now I am struggling with my workout regimen. I was once such a cardio freak and I want to incorporate more strengh. For this strength and getting lean how much cardio is too much? Should I do 3 days strength 3 days cardio for 45mins or is it ok to do more cardio? I'm just confused because I want the muscle and do not want to overdo the cardio.

    Its definitely ok to do 20 min before and after strength in fact its perfect. I do that as well. Cardio burns calories which makes you lose weight and the strength training continues to work hours after working out. Crazy right. Girl you r doing great love your fight.

    There are lots of articles about it under the Fitness tab... I know you are doing 30 Day Shred that has to be done every day, but everything I have read suggests the best course of action is to do short, intense cardio sessions on different days than strength. So what I do is 2 days of Bodypump and 3 days of 20-40 minutes interval cardio sessions.

It seems as though everyone is posting progress pics today. I look forward to cheering you all on because I know we can do it!

I will not be posting my pics until Sunday because that will be a week for me. One thing I have learned about this challenge is that it is giving me the motivation I need to stick with doing strengh. I am concentrating on seeing my body change instead of the scale, which is a huge jump for a person who use to hop on scale every morning.

Today I start JM 30 day shred level 2. I'm excited about it!

Goals for today:

30 Day Shred level 2 a.m
Give Zumba a rest and run 3-5miles this evening
