I got sick at work 2 evenings ago - had to get an IV, some meds, Xrays and a CT (Cat scan) of my belly. Thought I could work last night, but called off again. Made it tonight - busy, busy, so it's a good thing I'm feeling better.
I have now had many, many regular Xrays in my life, a Nuclear Med bone density scan, and MRI of my back, and now the Cat Scan. I'll be getting an ultrasound of my belly sometime later. I have made trhe radiology rounds. Good thing I'm a Veteran and get it free.

The end of one year, the beginning of another. The US and many countries celebrate it as 1 January, but it wasn't always that date. The ancient Babylonians observed a New Year celebration about 4000 years ago, but it was the first visible crescent of the New Moon after Vernal Equinox that determined the date. The beginning of spring is the time of rebirth, new crops, new animal births. January 1 has no astrological or agricultural significance, but was chosen by the Romans as the start of the year. Due to tampering with the calendar, the seasons were soon out of sync with the calendar. In 46 BC, Julius Caesar reset the calendar to what is known as the Julian calendar, starting on 1 January - causing the last year to go on for 445 days! Janus was the Roman god of doorways, gates, beginnings and ends.
The Chinese New Year, known as Yuan Tan, takes place sometime between January 21st and February 20th, the exact date being fixed by the Lunar Calendar, in which a New Moon marks the beginning of each month.
The Jewish people celebrate Rosh Hashanah during the first 2 days of the seventh month as a holy time and New Year.
Many cultures around the world celebrate the start of the New Year at different times and in different ways. most of us will be shouting "Happy New Year!" to each other and wishing health and happiness to all. Some choose resolutions to start the new year, others finish or clean up the end of the old year. People gather together to party, visit family, friends, and neighbors.
I grew up in the Southern US, eating Hoppin' John - blackeyed peas and rice with bacon or pork. My cousins with Germanic backgrounds enjoyed sauerkraut or cabbage. My Yankee relatives always ate creamy clam chowder. One co-worker is bringing the Hoppin' John tonight while I'm bringing clam chowder and sliced deli meats and cheeses. We're gonna party like it's 2009!

Since the moon is on an approximate 28 day cycle, occasionally we have what's called the blue moon - a second full moon in a month. This year, it's on New Year's Eve (in the Western hemisphere, anyway. It'll be on New Year's Day for Australia and the Eastern hemisphere).
Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone,
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own,
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for,
You heard me saying a prayer for,
Someone I could care for,
And then there suddenly appeared before me,
Someone my arms could really hold,
I heard you whisper "Darling please adore me,"
And when I looked to the moon it had turned to gold,
Blue moon, now I'm no longer alone,
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own.
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked the Moon had turned to gold
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
