New Shoes Seem to Help

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

The Ryka shoes seem to not aggravate my blister so much. I put some "blister" bandages on my heels last night. The one on my right foot had rubbed off in my sleep by morning. Sheesh. Put 2 on there, and bigger bandages over both heels before adding my usual thick socks and the new shoes. Did the treadmill at Cardio 2 to start for 15 minutes, then level 3 for 45. Worked the circuit training. Feet didn't feel too bad.

Showered, and when I took off the wet outer bandage, the inner "water resistant" blister bandage pulled off my left foot. Double sheesh. I had new outer bandages to put on both feet. Walked the pups when I got home - as we were making the turn about halfway out, I remembered I was supposed to have returned a movie to the Redbox at Walmart. Had to finish the walk, put the pups in the house, and drive back over. If I'd remembered, I could have just done it as part of the walk.

Now, I'm putting off studying. Class at 08 tomorrow morning. I am NOT a day person.

New Shoe Blues

Tuesday, September 08, 2009

I got some new Nike shoes last month after I joined the gym and started hitting the treadmill. They really felt good for a while, but I started getting blisters - some on my toes but most on my heels, at the bottom edges. Being stubborn, I've been putting big bandages on my heels, thick socks, "instant bandage" spray, antibiotic ointment ... you name it, I tried it (except NOT doing the treadmill). On the days I couldn't go to the gym, the blisters would heal a bit, but they'd flair up again after hitting the treadmill. As long as I kept the bandages on, I could walk the pups and walk at work OK.

I've been recording my milage here and at beewellmiles.com. Got a 25% discount coupon for Lady Foot Locker on line for doing a lot of miles. So, I went to the gym today (yep, did the treadmill an hour at cardio level 3). Made my blisters worse. Went to the mall and Lady Foot Locker and asked what shoes might not hurt my heels. Turns out I need a wide toe box and a narrow heel. One brand, Ryka, was like that. They felt so good, I wore them out of the store. Walked the pups in them tonight. I could feel the blisters, but they weren't anywhere near as bad.

Did a lot better today with my nutrition. No cupcakes today! I'm taking advice from my friend Vicious421 (Kim) about picturing the desired goodies as nasty.

I've always had trouble getting shoes to really fit well - my left foot measured out yesterday as a 10 medium, my right as a 9.5 wide. I've always compromised as a 10 medium (or less, yes, my feet have grown longer over the years, but the proportions stayed the same). I'm paying for that now with a beginning bunion on my right foot - and I now wear wide shoes to improve that. I guess I've been lucky in the past with the heels being relatively narrow - or, I just never tried to go so far at a time. Never have had good luck with the heel pads to keep them from slipping - it seems I can get one to stick, but the other rubs loose. Never have been good in heels - avoid them whenever I can, and as a result, I am clumsy when ever I have to wear them. I was sneakers when sneakers weren't cool (apologies to the singer that was country when country wasn't cool!). emoticon

Congrats on getting new shoes - sounds like a definite need.
The pictures are great - good advice for handling the treats you crave.

You can also buy rubbery, non-slip, adhesive heel pads for the back of your shoes. They keep your heel from moving up and down the back of the shoe. I use them in dress shoes all the time to tighten the hell and prevent slipping.

Ryka was the only sporting shoe company just for women. A few years back it was purchased by American Sporting Goods Corp. producers of the LA Gear line of fashion shoes that look athletic. I was a bit bummed to say the least. Glad to hear that they are still making a nice shoe for women.

Maybe the problem is the shoes? Perhaps there not the right fit? Right type? I'm no expert but I bought a new pairs of shoes last month and I've had no problems at all. Maybe your shoe size has changed. That happens with weight fluctuations and, of course, age (don't know if that one applies to you). Hope you heal soon and have happy feet on the treadmill.

Sunday Musings & Confession

Monday, September 07, 2009

Got off this morning after a very nice night at work. The weekends tend to be slower in our ER. Rainy grey morning, so I didn't walk the pups then. Played a little on line, then slept a few hours.

Got to the gym about 1700 (5P) and did the treadmill 60 minutes at cardio level 3. I could tell it was faster and steeper. (It varies the speed and incline as you go.) Just had time to do the circuit training after that, as the gym closes at 1900 (7P) on Sunday. No time for a shower! Walked the pups 1.25 miles tonight. Yesterday was the full moon, but tonight is still pretty full. Very cloudy, tho, so hard to see.

My neighbor gave me some cupcakes tonight. Foolishly, I accepted them - ate 4, FOUR!!! Like I was having an out-of-body experience. They were good, but not that good. Ah, well, Ms. Scarlett, once again, tomorrow is another day.

I actually had to take the rest of them and run them under water, poking them so they got soggy NOW and I couldn't rescue them. Sigh ...

Another Short Night for Work

Sunday, September 06, 2009

Got home this morning and walked the pups 2.5 miles - I decided to let my blisters heal one more day and not go to the gym for the , so the pups got a longer walk. Started sleeping after noon - and slept, woke up, slept, repeat. My watch alarm went off at 1800 (6P), but I ignored it - critters tried to get me up. but I just petted them absently and turned over. I knew they had dry food and water.

Got up 2200 (10P) and found it had been raining. What luck! We're still over 2 inches behind on our rainfall for the year, and we're about to get out of the rainy season.

Off to work for one more night! Wearing my pups and flags shirt, flag socks, and flag bow earrings in honor of Labor Day (I'm off Monday). emoticon

It's Going to Be A Better Night! (Repeat as Needed)

Friday, September 04, 2009

So far, so good. Got home on time, walked the pups the 1.5 mile walk - pleasantly cooler weather (hey, getting out before 9 or 10 makes a big difference in the temp). Food intake under control today (hope no one decides to order pizza - my nemesis)

I brought the ACLS book to study - and am I? No, I'm playing here online!

Y'all be good, now!

Know what you mean about the pizza! Last night I went to the store up the road to get 1 slice of cheese pizza, which wouldve fit in my calorie intake. Oh no, they didnt have any sliced, tried to talk me into taking a large meatlovers home (said they would let me have it 1/2 price! There ought to be a law against tempting fat people with weak wills!!!!) I said no thanks, an cried all the way home, lol.

I love pizza. I hear that veggie pizza is very good for you. Though you can only eat 2 pieces. I prefer pizza with all the trimmings (meat, meat and more meat). Just think, doesn't that sound good right about now? Hot melting cheese. :) Am I bad tonight or what? Good luck on the studying. emoticon emoticon
