Puttin' On the Ritz

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

I just saw "Young Frankenstein" in a play Sunday - classic song and dance by Dr. Frankie and the monster. This was written by Irving Berlin 1929 - I had no idea there were so many verses!

Have you seen the well-to-do
Upon Lennox Avenue
On that famous thoroughfare
With their noses in the air

High hats and narrow collars
White spats and fifteen dollars
Spending every dime
For a wonderful time

If you're blue
And you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where Harlem flits
Puttin' on the Ritz
Spangled Gowns upon the bevy of
High browns from down the levy
All misfits
Puttin' on the Ritz

That's where each and every lulu-belle goes
Every Thursday evening with her swell beaus
Rubbin' elbows

Come with me and we'll attend their jubilee
And see them spend
Their last two bits
Puttin' on the Ritz

------ short instrumental break ------

(Boys, look at that man puttin' on that Ritz)
(You look at him, I can't)

If you're blue
And you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where Harlem flits
Puttin' on the Ritz
Spangled Gowns upon the bevy of
High browns from down the levy
All misfits
Puttin' on that certain Ritz

That's where each and every lulu-belle goes
Every Thursday evening with her swell beaus
Rubbin' elbows

Come with me and we'll attend their jubilee
And see them spend
Their last two bits
Puttin' on the Ritz

------ piano solo ------

Come with me and we'll attend their jubilee
And see them spend
Their last two bits
Puttin' on the Ritz

I would love to see the play because I really liked the movie. I didn't realize there were so many verses to the song either!

Beth (by Kiss)

Sunday, March 04, 2012

A soft love song by a hard rock band - Kiss 1976

Beth I hear you calling
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are playing
And we just can't find the sound

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

You say you feel so empty
That our house just ain't our home
I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can.....I do

Beth I know you're lonely
And I hope you'll be alright
'Cause me and the boys will be playing all night
all night

Brandy (by Looking Glass)

Friday, March 02, 2012

The band Looking Glass recorded this in 1976.

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes

And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she works layin' whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine

The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

Brandy wears a braided chain
Made of finest silver from the North of Spain
A locket that bears the name
Of the man that Brandy loves

He came on a summer's day
Bringin' gifts from far away
But he made it clear he couldn't stay
No harbor was his home

The sailor said " Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes
When he told his sailor stories
She could feel the ocean foam rise
She saw its ragin' glory
But he had always told the truth, lord, he was an honest man
And Brandy does her best to understand
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

At night when the bars close down
Brandy walks through a silent town
And loves a man who's not around
She still can hear him say

She hears him say " Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

"Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
[FADE]

"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"

Coach Nicole Would Not Approve!

Thursday, March 01, 2012

After the "Recipes NOT Approved by Chef Meg", here are the LOL critters showing us how NOT to workout!

Train carefully for the runs - don't just get out there and give it your all!

Really? A one and ....

Increase the weights slowly - do not overstrain

Some exercises aren't really necessary

Pick exercises you really want to do and will stick with

But, do stick with them!

Don't scare the children or friends

Don't let the machines do all the work

Remember non-scale victories!

Bleh - Vacation is Over

Thursday, March 01, 2012

I had another "staycation" last week. Got to work this evening, all happy and rested - 10 minutes in, I was grumpy! Short staffed, very busy Emergency Department and lots of people in the waiting room getting really upset. Once again, the inpatient beds are tight, so our admissions are rocks - taking up the beds we could have used for those waiting to be seen. GRRR! I'm throwing this blog in just to get one done. Hope to have a better one after midnight.

THIS IS TOTALLY ADORABLE. I WON'T GET MY VACATION UNTIL THE WEEK AFTER EASTER.

I can totally understand your frustration. Someone needs to come up with a way to have multiple beds triaged in such a way that at least all the patients who should be lying down could be. Then once they are in a bed they think will still complain about how long they have been waiting there. Then an emergency accident and the ambulance is bringing in three critical and you have to ask if it is a full moon, all your origination and triage goes right out the bay doors!

You can only hope for a slow night, that would be the best of both worlds in your very stressful job! Hang in there!!
