Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

Wednesday, December 07, 2011

Whew, the day was till pretty cold, but the wind was so much less, I could walk the pups. Altho, I did have to carry Spartacus inside my jacket for most of the 2.6 mile walk. (He kept me warm too.)

Not the typical Christmas season song - Written by Randy Brooks, the song was originally performed by the husband and wife duo of Elmo and Patsy Trigg Shropshire in 1979.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinkin' too much eggnog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she'd left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into the snow.

When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack,
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
(On her way home)
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
(Say there's no Santa)
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
(Lord, we believe)

Now we're all so proud of Grandma,
He's been takin' this so well.
See him in there watchin' football,
Drinkin beer and playin' cards with cousin Belle.

It's not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family's dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
(Midnight before Christmas)
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
(Say there's no Santa)
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
(Lord, we believe)

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of fig.
And a blue and silver candle
That would have just matched the hair in grandma's wig.

I've warned all my friends and neighbors.
"Better watch out for yourselves.
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves."

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas Eve.
(Minding her own business)
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
(What do you mean there's no Santa?)
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
(Lord, we believe)

Oh
As for me and Grandpa, we believe.
(We believe in Santa Claus.)

Too cute! It was a whopping 12 degrees when it was time to walk my babies. They donned their sweaters...it was more of a race because they were NOT interested in being out very long. emoticon

Today I heard another funny one on the radio... it was Chewbacca from Star Wars singing O Holy Night (or it might have been Joy to the World). It's as cute as the barking dogs doing Jingle Bells.

Let It Snow

Tuesday, December 06, 2011

A big ol' cold front moved in last night - blew right through the canyons with a load of snow. When I got up this morning, the front yard was covered with snow, the winds blew all day, and the wind chill was in the single digits most of the day. Spartacus, the chihuahua, also called "you little weasel", did NOT want to go outside. I'd bundled him into 2 sweaters, and he still wasn't having any of it. The fluffies, Shalako & Samurai, didn't care for the wind in the morning, but they started running all over the yard in the afternoon. All of them had to "meet & greet" the neighbor's dogs tonight (my 3 and their 2 big ones run up and down the fence, barking their heads off).

The weasel, Spartacus

Shalako (tan) and Samurai (B&W), the fluffies

The cold weather is supposed to stick around most of the week. Good thing we did a 2 hour walk yesterday, cause I never made it out of the yard today!

Written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in 1945

The weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
Oh, since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Well it doesn't show signs of stopping
But we've got some corn for popping
And the lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I hate going out in the storm
But as long as you hold me tight
Woah all the way home I'll be warm

Well the fire is slowly dying
But my dear we're still goodbye-ing
And as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow (let it snow)
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow (let it snow)

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I hate going out in the storm
But as long as you hold me tight
Hoah all the way home I'll be warm

Oh the fire is slowly dying
But my dear we're still goodbye-ing
And as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow (let it snow)
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Love the pics of your furry critters! The song that came to my mind this morning is "Baby It's Cold Outside" recorded by several different people but I guess the first was Dinah Shore and Buddy Clark. These freezing temps of 5 degrees here this morning made me think of it. Stay warm!

I love the song, now that is going to be in my head for a few days.

Cute! I am jealous! It rarely, rarely snows where I live. I don't think I've ever had a "white" Christmas.

12 Days of Christmas

Monday, December 05, 2011

News reports by experts say that for the first time, the cost of everything given in the Twelve Days of Christmas tops $100,000. That includes a total of 12 partridges, 22 turtledoves, 30 French hens, etc.

The final verse:

On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me

Twelve drummers drumming

Eleven pipers piping,

ten lords-a-leaping

Nine ladies dancing,

eight maids-a-milking

Seven swans-a-swimming,

six geese-a-laying

Five golden rings,

four calling birds

Three French hens,

two turtle doves

And a partridge in a pear tree

Caroling Critters

Sunday, December 04, 2011

At the ICAnHasCheezburger.com site, there are many examples of how our critters help us celebrate the holidays. Apparently, they enjoy caroling!

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth, er,something like that...

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Blue Christmas

Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire

Felice Navidad

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch

Walking In a Winter Wonderland

Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Frosty, the Snowman

Twelve Days of Christmas

Silver Bells

And, the Poem, The Night Before Christmas

Jumping Jack Flash

Friday, December 02, 2011

Richards and Jager of the Rolling Stones, 1968. Seriously, did you know the words? I didn't! All I really knew (and sang along with) was "Jumping Jack Flash, It's a gas, gas, gas!"

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain,

But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right. I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag,
I was schooled with a strap right across my back,

But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead.
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled.
I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread.

Yeah, yeah, yeah
I was crowned with a spike right thru my head
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash

Great songs and good pictures. emoticon

Light Bulb !
Perhaps some Christmas Music. Someone figured out that to buy all of the items in the 12 Days of Christmas it would cost over 100 thousand dollars. Which they say, is up 4 percent over last year. The 7 Swans a swimming would cost over 6 thousand dollars alone.

Anyway just a thought. emoticon
