Jumping Jack Flash

Friday, December 02, 2011

Richards and Jager of the Rolling Stones, 1968. Seriously, did you know the words? I didn't! All I really knew (and sang along with) was "Jumping Jack Flash, It's a gas, gas, gas!"

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain,

But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right. I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag,
I was schooled with a strap right across my back,

But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead.
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled.
I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread.

Yeah, yeah, yeah
I was crowned with a spike right thru my head
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash,
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash, its a gas
Jumping Jack Flash

Great songs and good pictures. emoticon

Light Bulb !
Perhaps some Christmas Music. Someone figured out that to buy all of the items in the 12 Days of Christmas it would cost over 100 thousand dollars. Which they say, is up 4 percent over last year. The 7 Swans a swimming would cost over 6 thousand dollars alone.

Anyway just a thought. emoticon

Candle in the Wind

Thursday, December 01, 2011

I'm sitting in my living room, listening to the wind howl outside. Weather report says it's about 35 mph, gusts to ?? Gotta walk the pups - definitely sweater weather for Spartacus (maybe 2 sweaters). The fluffies, Samurai & Sahalako, usually tolerate it fine as long as they're not wet. Note to self: gas up car and get candles! (never made it to the store yesterday)

Music: Elton John Lyrics: Bernie Taupin 1973

Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork

And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid

Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled

Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Loved both versions of that song. The original and the one he did later after Princess Diana's death.

Anticipation

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

The weather dudes are predicting all kinds of bad stuff tonight and tomorrow - like, 70 mph winds, big temperature drop, snow (maybe). They're warning folks to stock up on candles, blankets, foods that don't need heating, etc - just on case the power goes out. Sheesh!

Carly Simon - Anticipation from 1971

We can never know about the things to come
But we think about them anyway
And I wonder if I'm really with you now
Or just chasing after some finer day.

Anticipation, anticipation
Is making me late
Is keeping me waiting

And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
How right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those words just late last night
When I was thinking about how right tonight might be.

Anticipation, anticipation
Is making me late
Is keeping me waiting.

And tomorrow, we might not be together
I'm no prophet, Lord I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try and see into your eyes right now
And stay right here, 'cause these are the good old days
These are the good old days
And stay right here, 'cause these are the good old days

These are the good old days
These are the good old days
These are the good old days
These are the good old days.

Stay warm my friend!!! I hope we get SOME snow out of it - somehow it makes suffering through the cold & winds worth it when we have snow on the ground!!!

System Maintenance

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

So, I got ready to work on a song blog, and SP is doing updates. It's down, it's up. it's down ... It takes me about an hour to 1.5 hours to do a song blog - can't deal with a system going up & down! I'll try again tomorrow.

You're So Vain

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Carly Simon wrote and recorded this in 1972 - she's never revealed who was the lover she was singing about!

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot

You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave

But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun

Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you? Don't you?

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you

You're so vain (so vain)
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you? Don't you?

One theory it was George Hamilton that she was writing about. I think it's more fun though to speculate who than really knowing who it is. emoticon

I know if it was my kitties seeing that cougar they would think it was them. LOL Also love the grumpy kitty and eclipse kitty.

Wonderful blog as usual! Always brings a smile to my face.
