Walk Right Back

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

This one has been going thru my head as I walk the pups. Samurai and Shalako keep marching on. Little Spike isn't so sure - i think he's really afraid of the traffic on the streets. He does OK on the side streets, but cringes at the busier streets and I have to carry him for a few minutes.

The Everly Brothers from 1961- written by Sonny Curtis

I want you to tell me,
Why you walked out on me.
I'm so lonesome every day.
I want you to know that,
Since you walked out on me,
Nothin' seems to be the same old way.

Think about the love that burns,
Within my heart for you.
The good times we had,
Before you went away, oh, me.
Walk right back to me this minute.
Bring your love to me don't send it.
I'm so lonesome every day.

[Unpublished second verse, written by Sonny Curtis]

These eyes of mine that gave you
loving glances once before
Changed from blue to cloudy gray
I want so much just to see you as before
Gotta know you're coming back my way.
Please believe me when I say:
It's great to hear from you.
But there's a lot of things
a letter just can't say, oh me

Walk right back to me this minute
bring your love to me don't send it
I'm so lonesome every day.

I want you to tell me,
Why you walked out on me.
I'm so lonesome every day.
I want you to know that,
Since you walked out on me,
Nothin' seems to be the same old way.

Think about the love that burns,
Within my heart for you.
The good times we had,
Before you went away, oh, me.
Walk right back to me this minute.
Bring your love to me don't send it.

I'm so lonesome every day.
I'm so lonesome every day.
[Fade.]
I'm so lonesome every day.

A Summer Song

Sunday, August 14, 2011

It's time for school to start again - big "back to school" sales at the stores, kids out frantically getting the last days of freedom playing on the sidewalks ... I don't have kids (all of mine have fur), but I feel for those who are not excited about next week (while the parents are almost frantic with happiness!)

Chad and Jeremy in 1964

Trees swayin' in the summer breeze
Showin' off their silver leaves
As we walked by

Soft kisses on a summer's day
Laughing all our cares away
Just you and I

Sweet sleepy warmth of summer nights
Gazing at the distant lights
In the starry sky

They say that all good things must end someday
Autumn leaves must fall
But don't you know that it hurts me so
To say goodbye to you
Wish you didn't have to go
No, no, no, no

And when the rain
Beats against my window pane
I'll think of summer days again
And dream of you

They say that all good things must end someday
Autumn leaves must fall
But don't you know that it hurts me so
To say goodbye to you
Wish you didn't have to go
No, no, no, no

And when the rain
Beats against my window pane
I'll think of summer days again
And dream of you
And dream of you

I always loved back to school time as a kid, and I look forward to getting my kids all ready for a new school year still. Maybe that makes me a little strange, but we all have our quirks. emoticon

Ever Have One of Those Days?

Sunday, August 14, 2011

I've considered and discarded several ideas for a song blog. Too long, not clever, no pictures to go along with it,

Not to mention, even Firefox is running slowly.

I give up - I'm tired and I'm going to bed!

I Love My Dog

Saturday, August 13, 2011

My neighbor found a little (5 pounds) chihuahua on her porch yesterday. He had a collar, no tags. Since she's elderly, I told her I'd take him around to the neighbors to see if I could find his owners. One problem - at midday, there are very few people home. I had to go back in the evening. No one recognized him, but several people told me "a guy" was asking about him - but no one knew who the guy was. I made posters today and stuck them on telephone poles. Took him to the vet to scan for microchip (nope!) and have a brief exam. Aside from being thin, he seems to be healthy, and she guessed he's about 8. I'm calling him Spike for now. He's so sweet! He's curled up in my arms now like a baby deer.

Cat Stevens 1966

I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

All he asks from me is the food to give him strength
All he ever needs is love and that he knows he'll get

So, I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

All the pay I need comes shining through his eyes
I don't need no cold water to make me realize that

I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

Na, na, na, na, na, na, nana...

I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through

Na, na, na, na, na, na, nana...

I love my dog, Baby, I love my dog. Na, na, na...

I knew it! I will however sleep better knowing the dog is in your care while the owner is looked for. If the owner is not found...he found you. emoticon

I've always been partial to 'little' dogs, I'm not familiar with this song, I wonder if it's on youtube
PS
I just looked and yes it was there, very sweet song

Ode to Billy Joe

Thursday, August 11, 2011

It's not too often that a song really, really tells a story. Bobby Gentry amazed and amused us in 1967. Truth or fiction - and just what was it they threw off the Tallahatchie Bridge?

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was balin' hay

And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered out the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet"

And then she said "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge"
"Today Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

And Papa said to Mama as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits, please"

"There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"
And Mama said it was shame about Billy Joe, anyhow

Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

And Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show

And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know it don't seem right"

"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge"
"And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

And Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"
"I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite"

"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today"
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way"

"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge"
"And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
And Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo

There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything

And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

It truely was a great song. One of my favorites. Rumor has it that this was a true story and that they threw a stillborn child off of that bridge. Don't know if it was true or not but they made a movie out of it. Great pictures too... emoticon
