Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone

Friday, June 03, 2011

Lots of clouds when I drove in to work last evening - only it was really smoke from the Arizona fires blowing all the way to Albuquerque!

Bill Withers in 1971, with multiple other artists covering it.

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
It's not warm when she's away.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
And she's always gone too long.
Anytime she goes away.

Wonder this time where she's gone.
wonder if she's gone to stay.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
And this house just ain't no home.
Anytime she goes away.

I know x 16
Gotta leave the young thing alone
There ain't no sunshine when she's gone

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
Only darkness every day.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
And this house just ain't no home.

Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.

Computer Woes

Friday, June 03, 2011

The computer system is t\running slowly at work. It's just a little too busy for me to try and do a song before midnight. I'll try again later.

Also having fun (not) cleaning out the dried scum from the keyboard. Yuck!

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

I've been feeling puny (dizzy, stomach cramps, etc - bleh) the last couple of days - slept so much yesterday I never walked to pups (they and the kits got lots of cuddle time, tho). Today, I made it to the Post Office and grocery store, but feel like I could sleep another week. Hadn't noticed any tse-tse flies on the walks earlier last week ...

Originally, The Lion Sleeps Tonight seems to have been a folk classic from 1939, known as Mbube (Zulu: "Lion"). Many groups covered it, and it is most familiar to us from the Tokens in 1951, and the movie The Lion King. Another name for it, Wemoweh, came from a mishearing the original chorus "Uyimbube" (Zulu: "you are a lion"). (Info from Wikipedia)

US Military Songs

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

These are the theme songs of the major branches of the US Military - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

Army (Caisson Song)

Over hill, over dale
As we hit the dusty trail,
And those caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter march and right about,
And those caissons go rolling along.

Navy (Anchors Away)

Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We’ll never change our course, So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh. Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

Air Force - Originally Army Air Corps (Off We Go Into the Wild Blue Yonder)

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At ‘em boys, Give ‘er the gun! (Give ‘er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. (Shout!)
Nothing’ll stop the Army Air Corps!

Marines (Marines Hymn)

From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of UNITED STATES MARINES

Coast Guard (Semper Paratus)

So here's the Coast Guard marching song,
We sing on land or sea.
Through surf and storm and howling gale,
High shall our purpose be.
"Semper Paratus" is our guide,
Our fame, our glory too.
To fight to save or fight to die,
Aye! Coast Guard, we are for you!

Good Day Sunshine

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer in the US. I've already turned the air conditioner on and the heater off, and the afternoon walks are in the 80's. (So we're tending to go earlier or later!)

The Beatles, 1966, written mainly by Paul McCartney.

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

We take a walk, the sun is shining down
Burns my feet as they touch the ground

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

Then we lie beneath a shady tree
I love her and she's loving me
She feels good, she know she's looking fine
I'm so proud to know that she is mine

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

    Great song!

Nothing like 90s yesterday and only 70s today :-)

Puppy & I were going to go kayaking but too windy - will head to the trail head instead.

Have a safe day!
