Homeward Bound

Saturday, May 21, 2011

Ick - I was all right at work, then got home yesterday at 0800, still 95% OK. By 0930, I was feeling ill with another stomach virus. Took the meds I'd been given for my last episodes (antinausea, antidiarrhea, acid blocker). By 1030, I took 2 Tylenol #3 tabs. By noon, I was at the ER I'd just left 4 hours earlier. Labs, IV fluids, cosseting by my fellow staff. Home 6 hours later. I got so sleepy while I was there (had been up over 20 hours), I napped on the gurney. Really wanted to get home to my own bed. Finally, I was feeling better and homeward bound! To bed and not up until after midnight (obviously, didn't work last night).

Simon & Garfunkel in 1967....

I'm sittin' in the railway station, got a ticket for my destination

On a tour of one-night-stands, my suitcase and guitar at hand

And every stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band

[Chorus:]
Homeward bound, I wish I was homeward bound

Home, where my thoughts escape, at home, where my music's playin'

Home, where my love lies waitin' silently for me

Every day's an endless dream of cigarettes and magazines

And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories

And every stranger's face I see reminds me that I long to be

[Chorus]

Tonight I'll sing my songs again, I'll play the game and pretend

But all my words come back to me, in shades of mediocrity

Like emptiness and harmony, I need someone to comfort me

[Chorus repeats 2x]

Silently for me

is it really allergies? I had nausea, stomach cramps about 4 days. aches and pains. now I have a sore throat type feeling by my nose and ears. I've been slugging down gatorade for a week.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head

Friday, May 20, 2011

A bouncy song to walk along to, and hope for more rain.

Written by Burt Bacaharach and Hal Davis and recorded by B. J. Thomas for the 1967 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Paul Newman and Robert Redford - woo-hoo!)

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me

'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

[trumpet]

It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me

'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

I Wish It Would Rain

Thursday, May 19, 2011

As some of the country has been getting flooded (and the lower areas of the flood zone are waiting with bated breath to be flooded), we have been in a drought. Fire danger, humidity in the single digits some days, talk about water rationing ... It rained last evening - splish plash on the way into work!!

From the Temptations in 1967

Songwriters: Penzabene, Roger; Whitfield, Norman; Strong, Barrett

Sunshine, blue skies, please go away
My girl has found another, and gone away
With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom
So day after day, I stay locked up in my room

I know to you it might sound strange
But I wish it would rain
(Oh, how I wish that it would rain)
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

'Cause so badly I wanna go outside
(Such a lovely day)
But everyone knows that a man ain't supposed to cry
Listen, I got to cry, 'cause crying, ooh
Eases the pain, oh yeah

Even this hurt I feel inside
Words could never explain, I just wish it would rain
(Oh, how I wish that it would rain)
Oh, let it rain, rain, rain, rain

(Oh, how I wish that it would rain)
Ooh baby, let it rain
(Rain, rain)
Oh yeah, let it rain

Day in day out, my tear stained face
Pressed against the window pane
My eyes search the skies, desperately for rain
'Cause rain drops will hide my teardrops and no one will ever know
That I'm crying
(Crying)
Crying
(Crying, crying)
When I go outside

To the world outside my tears, I refuse to explain
Oh, I wish it would rain
(Oh, how I wish that it would rain)
Ooh baby, let it rain, let it rain

I need rain to disguise the tears in my eyes
Oh, let it rain
Oh yeah, yeah, listen I'm a man, I ain't got no pride
'Til it rains, I'm gonna stay inside

woo hoo! the Sandias have a dusting snow and it's raining at my house and downtown - the light rain will at least sink in and not run off like usual. I rode my motorcycle to work this morning - didn't mind the few raindrops as they dropped on my head - trigger a song for you (by BJ Thomas??)

Have a great day!

If we could bottle some of the tears of those cute pics and spread it around maybe it would help LOL! We have had a few (very few) sprinkles this morning and it's overcast, windy, and cold. So hoping those clouds will bring more than a few sprinkles for all of us here.

There have been some bad fires in Alberta. It gutted a town a few days ago. :( It's finally raining here in this town, but I don't know if it's raining near the fire.

Hope you get some. I loved rain in the desert. Wonderful smells.

The Streak

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Look at that, look at that! Ray Stevens 1974

(Reporter):
Hello, everybody, this is your action news reporter with all the news
that is news across the nation, on the scene at the supermarket. There
seems to have been some disturbance here. Pardon me, sir, did you see
what happened?

(Witness):
Yeah, I did. I's standin' overe there by the tomaters, and here he
come, running through the pole beans, through the fruits and vegetables,
nekkid as a jay bird. And I hollered over t' Ethel, I said, "Don't
look, Ethel!" But it's too late, she'd already been incensed.

(Chorus)
Here he comes, look at that, look at that
There he goes, look at that, look at that
And he ain't wearin' no clothes

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak
Look at that, look at that
Fastest thing on two feet
Look at that, look at that
He's just as proud as he can be
Of his anatomy
He goin' give us a peek

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak
Look at that, look at that
He likes to show off his physique
Look at that, look at that
If there's an audience to be found
He'll be streakin' around
Invitin' public critique

(Reporter):
This is your action news reporter once again, and we're here at the gas
station. Pardon me, sir, did you see what happened?

(Witness):
Yeah, I did. I's just in here gettin my car checked, he just appeared
out of the traffic. Come streakin' around the grease rack there, didn't
have nothin' on but a smile. I looked in there, and Ethel was gettin'
her a cold drink. I hollered, "Don't look, Ethel!" But it was too
late. She'd already been mooned. Flashed her right there in front of
the shock absorbers.

(Chorus)
He ain't crude, look at that, look at that
He ain't lewd, look at that, look at that
He's just in the mood to run in the nude

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak
Look at that, look at that
He likes to turn the other cheek
Look at that, look at that
He's always makin' the news
Wearin' just his tennis shoes
Guess you could call him unique

(Reporter):
Once again, your action news reporter in the booth at the gym, covering
the disturbance at the basketball playoff. Pardon me, sir, did you see
what happened?

(Witness):
Yeah, I did. Half time, I's just goin' down thar to get Ethel a snow
cone. And here he come, right out of the cheap seats, dribbling, right
down the middle of the court. Didn't have on nothing but his PF's.
Made a hook shot and got out through the concessions stand. I hollered up
at Ethel, I said, "Don't look, Ethel!" But it was too late. She'd
already got a free shot. Grandstandin', right there in front of the
home team.

(Chorus) (Witness):
Oh, yes, they call him the Streak
Here he comes again.
Look at that, look at that
The fastest thing on two feet
Who's that with him?
Ethel? Is that you, Ethel?
What do you think you're doin'?
You git your clothes on!
Look at that, look at that
He's just as proud as he can be
Of his anatomy

He's gonna give us a peek

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak
Look at that, look at that
Ethel! Where you goin'?
Ethel, you shameless hussy!
He likes to show off his physique
Look at that, look at that
Say it isn't so,
Ethel! Ethelllllll!!!
If there's an audience to be found
He'll be streakin' around
Invitin' public critique
